1 3 s and 4 s/pre K October 13-14, 2012 Genesis 1-2 Pg. 18 in the Jesus Storybook Bible SCHEDULE for all sites: First 10 minutes of the service hour: Relationship-building time (kids get to know each other and the volunteers) Next 25 minutes: Large group teaching and worship Last 30 minutes: Story review, snack and small groups, activities/crafts A Journey Home Week 2: Creation God created a perfect world and family for us Have activities ready for kids when they arrive. Place coloring pages and crayons on the table or help kids engage in other activities like playing with a truck or baby doll. Use this time to get to know the kids individually. Ask them questions like: "Who brings you to church?", "What's your favorite...", etc. If you finish early, have kids engage group games as parents arrive. Check out the end of the activities section to find an idea for this week. As parents check their kids out, tell them that we talked about how God created a perfect world--and imagined what it might feel like to live in the world as God intended it! Today in large group, we re talking about how God created the world and the first ever family. His perfect design reveals his love for us. Now it s hard for us to picture ourselves in a perfect world, but we re going to try to imagine it so we can recognize God s unbelievable love for us. *Also, don t be shy: redirect rowdy kids so the presenter can focus on presenting.

2 Goal: To help kids imagine themselves in the perfect world God created. Why? If they grasp the reality of God s original design, they ll realize how much he loves us activity are specifically designed to make it more personal to them so that they walk away knowing not only that God created everything, but also that he loves them. Tip: The kids can have fun naming all the things God made, but the questions and QUESTIONS Lead the kids to RETELL the story: 1. Who created the world? (God!) 2. What are some of the things he made? (Brainstorm with the kids make sure you cover different kinds of land and sea animals, bugs, mountains, beaches, swamps, plants, and people) 3. What is God s most special creation? (People!) 4. What did God create for people? (Families) 5. Who was the first family? (Adam and Eve) 6. Describe what it would be like to live in the perfect world. (Help guide them toward things like: no crying, looked beautiful, smelled good, sounded peaceful, people played with animals, everybody shared, etc. Ask leading questions if necessary.) ACTIVITY SAY: Now we re going to imagine what that perfect world might have been like. God loves it when we create, just like he did. Using stickers, see if you can make a beautiful, perfect world. Imagine how happy you would be in that world. DO: Give each kid a background sheet and a sticker sheet. Let them create! As kids use their stickers, remind them that God created the beautiful world for the very first family, Adam and Eve. Ask them to recall what it would have been like for Adam and Eve in the perfect world (from question #6 no crying, playing with animals, everybody sharing, etc.).

3 2 QUESTIONS ACTIVITY I Spy (OPTIONAL IF TIME PERMITS) You can play this from your seats or walk around the room. Lead first, to show the kids how to play. Say, I spy something with the color and let the kids guess. Or say, I spy something shaped like a and let the kids guess. Let the kids come up with their own objects, too. To mix things up, ask the kids to find something in the room with a certain color or shape and bring it to you. (Don t make it a contest to find an object first just have fun seeing many examples of colors and shapes!)

4 1 Even though our story is about the story of creation, today we want to imagine ourselves in the world as God intended it before The Fall (last week s story). Build excitement around the peace and bliss we would have felt. Make sure you use lots of eye contact and muster as much energy as possible as you present. Kids love it when you act silly and over-the-top, so go for it. They'll love it and it will help the lesson to stick. Presenter: Hi Friends! Welcome to (your ministry s name). I'm and I'm really glad you're here today. Before we get started, I want you to meet my friend, HOPS. She s going to remind us of the kind of choices we can make today in (your ministry). Video: HOPS 2 Obey Your Leaders (approx. 1 minute) Presenter: (holding up the Bible for kids to see) This is God s story. Out of all the stories in the world, this story is the most important story. This is God s story it s God s Rescue plan. REVIEW Remember the old bone and tissues that made us cry last week? What story did we talk about with a snake in it? (Allow kids to respond.) Yes, the story of Adam and Eve. The snake convinced them that God didn t really love them and they made a bad choice. Does anybody remember what they did? (Allow kids to respond.) That s right, they disobeyed God. Then all the wrong things in the world began, like sadness and getting hurt and being mean. But does anybody remember what God did to show us he loves us? If you remember, give me a thumbs up! (Let kids respond and call on one kid.) Yes, he created a great rescue plan so that everybody could join his family. Let s see if we can find something in the box to show us something about God s family. Video: Attic / Week 2 (approx. 30 seconds) Wow, leaves and flowers! Now those make me happy. Leaves and flowers remind me of being outside. Today, we re going to talk about when God first created this beautiful world.

5 INTRO: CREATION First of all, everybody squeeze your eyes shut tight. No peeking. Sit really quietly. Shhhh (Give a couple seconds of quiet.) This is what it was like in the beginning of the world. There was nothing nothing at all. There wasn t even a floor for you to sit on. (Let that sink in.) Keep your eyes closed. Out of this nothing, God began to create the entire world. All he had to do was speak. First, he said (loudly), Let there be light! (Turn on the flashlight) Now open your eyes (let kids respond). There was light! (Shine the flashlight around the room like a spotlight then turn it off and set it aside.) He said, Let there be mountains and there were mountains (show the picture of the mountains). He said, Let there be planets! and there were planets (show the picture of the planets). What do you think happened when he said, Let there be animals? (Let the kids say, There were animals! Then show the image of animals.) Can you guys tell me some of the animals God made? How about this one? (Point to one of your choice and let kids respond continue as desired or name the animals and move on.) Everybody stand up and think of your favorite animal. (As you list the following examples of animals, make animal motions.) Maybe it s a lion or tiger (make a scary face), a dog or a cat (pant like a dog), even a bouncy kangaroo like Hops (hop). Think of your favorite animal (let kids respond). I m going to choose a monkey (do your best animal impression). Now, act like that animal! (Act like a monkey again.) Awesome job! Now, let s sit back down to hear the rest of the story. A PERFECT WORLD You guys make some great animals. And in a perfect world, guess what? All the animals could play together! Even ROARING lions and gentle, little lambs (show picture of lion and lamb). And we could pet them and never be scared of them. They all lived in a special garden. Does anybody remember the name of the garden God made? (Let kids respond) Yes, the Garden of Eden. The garden was fun for all the animals and it looked beautiful! (Play the looped forest let the kids listen for a moment.) It even smelled beautiful, like flowers (hold bouquet and spray a few squirts of Febreeze over the room and keep listening to the loop). There was plenty of food and water. (Say the next part slowly and quietly.) Everything was perfect. God made light and dark, trees and flowers, animals and bugs. But (lower your voice again so the kids really listen), God had a favorite creation. And he created the world to be the perfect home for that creation. We re going to watch a video about when God created the world. As we watch, see if you can figure out what God s favorite creation was. Video: God s Story / Creation (approx. 4 minutes)

6 A PERFECT HOME (Return to looped garden.) So what was God s favorite creation? I ll give you a hint (Pull out the big mirror and let the kids respond.) Yes, WE are!! Stand up if you are God s most special creation! (Make sure all kids stand or are invited to stand.) And he created the first two people, Adam and Eve, to live in this perfect home. He wanted them to be a family who always loved each other. Look around. What if everyone was always nice to each other and always shared with you? All of you guys could pet lions and play with gorillas. Nobody ever cried. As you sit down, give somebody a high five because that would be pretty awesome! (Let the kids high five and sit.) This is the home God wanted for us. We know life isn t perfect because Adam and Eve disobeyed and we all disobey. But does anybody remember what God started planning to save us? (Let kids respond.) That s right, a rescue! And soon we ll learn what that rescue is. For now, let s remember that God loves us. Give yourself a hug and say, God loves me! together. (Model this and say, God loves me! ) Go to next slide to stop loop, then pray, breaking the prayer into smaller, repeatable phrases: Pray: Dear God, thanks for making the world! Thanks for giving us families! Thanks for making me! Thanks for loving me! Aaaaaaa-men! Let s sing and celebrate God s beautiful creation! Music Video: Whole Wide World (approx. 2 minutes) Sing: Trust in the Lord Dismiss kids to small groups. (Be creative as you dismiss them. Ask them to come give you a high five first, or maybe tiptoe or hop to their groups.)

God provided a family for Adam and supplied all of Adam and Eve s needs. Today in Kids Club, we imagined what it would have been like to be a part of that first family in that perfect world because it helps us understand how much God loves us. Ask your kids to tell you about it.
