13 5 Possible Views of the United States in Prophecy 1. The United States (New York City) is Babylon the Great. Scripture used by this view: Jer. 50,51; Rev. 17,18 Why this view is incorrect: Babylon in Jer. and Rev, will be a literal rebuilt city in modern day Iraq on the Euphrates River, which God will destroy at the end of the Tribulation.

14 2. The United States is the unnamed nation in Is. 18. Scripture used by this view: Is. 18:1,2 Isa 18:1-2 1 Alas, oh land of whirring wings Which lies beyond the rivers of Cush, 2 Which sends envoys by the sea, Even in papyrus vessels on the surface of the waters. Go, swift messengers, to a nation tall and smooth, To a people feared far and wide, A powerful and oppressive nation Whose land the rivers divide. Why this view is incorrect: This is a prophecy dealing with the ancient nations of Cush (modern day Sudan, Ethiopia, Somlia) and Egypt.

15 3. The United States are the 10 lost tribes of Israel. Scripture used by this view: None. General assumptions are made. Why this view is incorrect: This view is called British Israelism. It is the belief that many of the inhabitants of Britain are direct descendants of the 10 lost tribes of Israel. However there is no proof that the tribes of Judah are lost. God knows exactly who and where they are and will be united in a regathered nation and the 144,000 which come from all 12 tribes.

A man will work all day just to be able to buy enough food to survive. Or, he can work all day just to buy enough food fit for an animal to feed three people. Think about what this means: People will have to make some hard choices. People who cannot get out and work for themselves will be left to starve to death. There will be no welfare, no government subsidies or programs, nothing extra for one human being to share with another, everyone will just be trying to survive.

38 Starvation and malnutrition make the body weak and vulnerable to diseases and infections as the body does not have the fuel to build muscle and fight off infections. Pregnant and malnourished mothers also deliver underweight babies, who struggle for survival. Children often have stunted growth as a result of malnutrition. Without proper foods (with the right balance of vitamins and minerals) the brain is not able to develop properly. Hunger also makes it difficult to concentrate on anything, especially for children. Children suffer this most and are unable to stay in school. Countries with starvation tend to do poorly with the economy. This is because adults and young adults do not have the right frame of mind to work. They are constantly ill and work input and interest are very low.

39 We know something of starvation in our world. Consider the following statistics: Every 3.6 seconds someone dies of starvation. Every year 15 million children die of starvation and of hunger related illness. 4 million people starve to death every year. Throughout the 1990's more than 100 million children died from illness and starvation. 1.3 billion people live on less than $1.00 of income per day. Another 3 billion have to try and survive on less than $3.00 per day. More than 1/2 of the world goes to bed hungry./ 460 Million people on the brink of starvation. In the time it takes us to eat dinner, 400 people will starve to death. The average American puts enough food in the trash can each day to feed a family of six in India. In fact the average American dog has a higher protein diet than many people in other parts of the World. So we already live in a world of perpetual hunger. 1/3rd of the world is starving/1/3rd is underfed/1/3 have enough to eat. As horrible as those figures are, they will be dwarfed by the starvation problem this world will face in the Tribulation.

47 What would nuclear winter be like? by Robert Lamb The theory of nuclear winter is essentially one of environmental collateral damage. While a nuclear attack might target a nation's military infrastructure or population centers, the assault could inflict massive harm to earth s atmosphere. Sunlight shines through the atmosphere and warms the planet's surface, which then emits terrestrial radiation that heats the air. If sufficient ash from burning cities and forests ascended into the sky, it could effectively work as an umbrella, shielding large portions of the Earth from the sun. If you diminish the amount of sunlight that makes its way to the surface, then you diminish the resulting atmospheric temperature -- as well as potentially interfere with photosynthesis.

48 Examples of this scenario have occurred on a smaller scale in recent history. For instance, the 1883 eruption of the Indonesian volcano Krakatoa blasted enough volcanic ash into the atmosphere to lower global temperatures by 2.2 degrees F (1.2 degrees C) for an entire year [source: Maynard]. Decades earlier in 1815, the eruption of Mount Tambora in Indonesia blocked enough sunlight around the globe to cause what came to be known as "the year without summer. That following year, residents in the United States experienced summer snows and temperatures between 5 and 10 degrees F (3 and 6 degrees C) less than average. This drop in temperatures devastated crops and caused hundreds of thousands of deaths -- not counting those who perished in Indonesia.

In Germany after World War I, people were taking ten thousand German marks, loading them into wheelbarrows, and taking them to market to buy a single loaf of bread. That is what runaway inflation does. It makes money worthless.

50 Daniel Iverson Daniel Iverson (b. Brunswick, GA, 1890; d. Asheville, NC, 1977) wrote the first stanza and tune of this hymn after hearing a sermon on the Holy Spirit during an evangelism crusade by the George Stephans Evangelistic Team in Orlando, Florida, The hymn was sung at the crusade and then printed in leaflets for use at other services. Published anonymously in Robert H. Coleman's Revival Songs (1929) with alterations in the tune, this short hymn gained much popularity by the middle of the century. Since the 1960s it has again been properly credited to Iverson. Iverson studied at the University of Georgia, Moody Bible Institute, Columbia Theological Seminary, and the University of South Carolina. Ordained in the Presbyterian Church in 1914, he served congregations in Georgia and in North and South Carolina. In 1927 he founded the Shenandoah Presbyterian Church in Miami, Florida, and served there until his retirement in An evangelist as well as a preacher, Iverson planted seven new congregations during his ministry in Miami.
