2 Genesis 24:34-38, 42-49, So he said, "I am Abraham's servant. The LORD has greatly blessed my master, and he has become wealthy; he has given him flocks and herds, silver and gold, male and female slaves, camels and donkeys. And Sarah my master's wife bore a son to my master when she was old; and he has given him all that he has. My master made me swear, saying, 'You shall not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, in whose land I live; but you shall go to my father's house, to my kindred, and get a wife for my son.' "I came today to the spring, and said, 'O LORD, the God of my master Abraham, if now you will only make successful the way I am going! She said, 'The daughter of Bethuel, Nahor's son, whom Milcah bore to him.' So I put the ring on her nose, and the bracelets on her arms. Then I bowed my head and worshiped the LORD, and blessed the LORD, the God of my master Abraham, who had led me by the right way to obtain the daughter of my master's kinsman for his son. Now then, if you will deal loyally and truly with my master, tell me; and if not, tell me, so that I may turn either to the right hand or to the left." And they called Rebekah, and said to her, "Will you go with this man?" She said, "I will." So they sent away their sister Rebekah and her nurse along with Abraham's servant and his men. And they blessed Rebekah and said to her, "May you, our sister, become thousands of myriads; may your offspring gain possession of the gates of their foes." Then Rebekah and her maids rose up, mounted the camels, and followed the man; thus the servant took Rebekah, and went his way. Now Isaac had come from Beer-lahai-roi, and was settled in the Negeb. Isaac went out in the evening to walk in the field; and looking up, he saw camels coming. And Rebekah looked up, and when she saw Isaac, she slipped quickly from the camel, and said to the servant, "Who is the man over there, walking in the field to meet us?" The servant said, "It is my master." So she took her veil and covered herself. And the servant told Isaac all the things that he had done. Then Isaac brought her into his mother Sarah's tent. He took Rebekah, and she became his wife; and he loved her. So Isaac was comforted after his mother's death. 2

3 Hymn 27 I will always bless the Lord (Psalm 34) Romans 7:15-25a I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate. Now if I do what I do not want, I agree that the law is good. But in fact it is no longer I that do it, but sin that dwells within me. For I know that nothing good dwells within me, that is, in my flesh. I can will what is right, but I cannot do it. For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I do. Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I that do it, but sin that dwells within me. So I find it to be a law that when I want to do what is good, evil lies close at hand. For I delight in the law of God in my inmost self, but I see in my members another law at war with the law of my mind, making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members. Wretched man that I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! Matthew 11:16-19, "But to what will I compare this generation? It is like children sitting in the marketplaces and calling to one another, 'We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we wailed, and you did not mourn.' For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, 'He has a demon'; the Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, 'Look, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!' Yet wisdom is vindicated by her deeds." At that time Jesus said, "I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and the intelligent and have revealed them to infants; yes, Father, for such was your gracious will. All things have been handed over to me by my Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him. "Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light." 6 MORE NOTES & DATES The Minister will be on holiday from Friday 7th July to Friday 14th July inclusive. During this time, anyone needing the help of a minister should contact our Assisting Minister, the Rev. Dr. Roger Sturrock, on The Sunday morning crèche will not be staffed from now until mid August. However, the room will be available for babies/toddlers and accompanying adults who wish to use it. CHURCH OFFICE During Anthea s absence, Rebecca Gebauer, will be looking after the Church Office. Please or telephone the office as usual relating to any administration matters. The office hours will be Tuesday-Thursday 12pm-4pm until further notice. WELLINGTON CHURCH ROOF REPAIRS Scaffolding construction will remain in place until the completion of the project planned for 1 September ACCESS TO THE BUILDING During this period the only access to the church will be through the side door on Southpark Ave. There will be no access through the front doors of the church without special permission and no access through the crypt outside door. CAR PARKING The car park will be used by the contractor so car parking is very limited. Parking is available in the University grounds. Enter by the Porter s box at the main gate and exit by the lower, Pearce Lodge, gate. There are a number of disabled parking spaces available in the University car park on Southpark Avenue but only for holders of blue badges. Drive your car up to the barrier and use the phone to call the porter s box, quote your blue badge number and the barrier should be opened. STUDENT SUMMER PHOTO CONTEST If you are a student in Glasgow, you are invited to enter Wellington s first ever student photo contest! Our theme for the summer is Journeys of Life, Journeys of Faith. Any photos that fit that theme, in your mind, are eligible for entry. You may submit as many photos as you wish. The winners will be chosen at the end of the summer and prizes will be awarded at our Freshers Week Dinner! For the complete rules and entry requirements, check the Students@Wellington page on Wellington s website ( BACK TO SCHOOL APPEAL The Wheel Trust and some of their partner churches are looking to support pupils from low income families at Hillhead High with essential items for starting back at school. Collection of school uniforms (size yr) and stationary at Wellington will continue until 13th August. See notice boards for more info. 6

7 MORE NOTES & DATES ENGLISH LANGUAGE CONVERSATION CORNER An average of 30 people gather in the LIbrary each week to chat in English. This helps the Guests who are learning English and has a 'feel good' factor for the Hosts who are the native English speakers. You are invited to join them. Turn up at 2.30pm for the 3pm start or contact Grace Franklin in advance: grace@iwelcomeclub.com DAY TRIP SUMMERLEE Visit Summerlee Museum of Scottish Industrial Life. See a real mine and miners' cottages. Travel on an old tram. Come with the International Welcome Club on Monday 17 July to accompany and befriend the Club members. Next one is Saturday 29 July in the Woodlands Hall at 7pm for 7.30pm when Musician Liam Stewart will start playing for the dancing. Come and help and extend a Wellington welcome to International Welcome Club members old and new. Pay at the door: 7 per adult. 10 per family. LADIES COFFEE MORNING The next coffee morning will be held on Wednesday 12th July at 11am at the home of Helen Sturrock, 36 Thomson Drive, Bearsden G613PA. All ladies of the congregation are very welcome. It may be possible to assist with transport. There will be an opportunity to donate to the Lodging House Mission if desired Contact Ruth Beattie with any queries. AFRICAN CHILDREN July Appeal The following items are now needed by SIR for children in Africa: pencil case, ruler, sharpener, eraser. Items donated will be forwarded to African countries such as: Liberia, Uganda, Democratic Republic of Congo. WELCOME TO WELLINGTON All are welcome in this place. If you would like to find out more about the life of our church, please speak to one of the people on door duty. You are warmly invited to continue the fellowship of this service with tea and coffee in the Woodlands Hall, and please note that we have a congregational lunch on the first Sunday of each month. If you are visiting Wellington for the first time, we would be very pleased if you could sign our visitors book at the front entrance. The offering at Wellington is not collected during the service there are collection pedestals at each door for donations thank you. For the hard of hearing there is a loop system installed in the Church - to take advantage of it, please sit in the central area and adjust your hearing aid to position T. 7

8 FOCUS ON PRAYER (provided by the Prayer Group) Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. Philippians 4:6 (NIV) Give thanks that God hears us and guides us to peace in the troubled times of our lives. Pray for protection and respect for Christians in Sri Lanka and for complete religious freedom there. Pray for Kathryn (Wheel Trust) during July, guiding young people in the way of Jesus Christ. Pray for guidance in finding new Wheel Trust Trustees with a vision for sustaining and developing the work of the trust. Pray for a safe and happy visit to Prague for Mary and David Sinclair. Pray for wisdom for those attending the G20 meeting.
