Admissions Update for Voluntary Aided Schools All academies become responsible for their own admissions once they have converted. Check the MAT s policy and arrangements for managing the process as part of your questioning prior to conversion. There is currently a question mark over whether faith based oversubscription criteria that refer to membership of another faith are permitted under the Admissions Code and it is thought that these provisions may need to be removed. We are working with the Church of England Education Office on this and hope to be in a position to issue clear guidance on the matter shortly.

Diocese of Worcester Multi-Academy Trust (DoWMAT) Karen Surrall David Jenkins Richard Wetherall YMD Boon Stone King CEO Head of Operations Head of Finance Buildings and H&S Legal
DoWMAT Update 8 schools have currently converted: Littletons CE First School Offenham CE First School Crowle CE First School St Barnabas CE First and Middle School Malvern Parish CE Primary School Pinvin CE First School St Nicholas CE Middle School Madresfield CE Primary School
DoWMAT Update A further 2 schools to convert on the 1 st July: Netherton CE School St Oswald s CE Primary School Three other schools with Academy Orders 8 schools who have completed their consultations and have asked to join DoWMAT
Structure VA Model Three members Five Directors This is partnership rather than a top down model. Our vision is based on John 10:10 and fully supports our desire 'to love, to learn, to serve'.
Funding Schools still get the same amount of money as agreed through the schools forum. DoWMAT keeps 5% and schools then get the rest, including any surplus. Schools who are in deficit will not be able to join DoWMAT at present. We do not have the funds to support schools in financial crisis.
Services provided by DoWMAT School Improvement 6 visits a year Finance (SAGE) - training and support which is currently a minimum of one half day visit a fortnight. Legal 1 hour free legal advice as required Premises YMD Boon's bronze package HR Liberata Governance
Changes? Not many! Staff employed by DoWMAT. Money comes in monthly rather than annually. Most of powers of the board are delegated back to the LGB. This includes staffing, curriculum and finance.
An introduction for headteachers, governors and clergy

Ofsted: Realising the potential 2013 Low levels of subject knowledge amongst pupils Lack of critical and enquiring approach in learning Need to deepen pupils understanding of the nature, diversity and impact of religion and belief in the contemporary world
Making a difference? National Society (2014) Called for: a more intellectually coherent and challenging curriculum with regard to teaching Christianity a programme to raise the level of pupils religious literacy RE Today 2016 to develop pupils ability to think theologically and engage in theological enquiry
Why do we need the Understanding Christianity resource? Atomised little coherence for pupils Not much progressive or systematic study of core beliefs Pick n mix attitude to Jesus: not much theology, not much about Jesus as Saviour or Lord Use Jesus stories to explore personal feelings Christianity as repository of answers Not much awareness of different interpretations Little sense of place and context
Involves studying the lived and diverse reality of religions and beliefs; Considers issues of pluralism, secularism and diversity; Focuses on developing ethnographic research skills and emphasises encounter, engagement and impact. Theology Religious Literacy Involves studying the key concepts upon which a religion or belief system is based; Considers issues such as authority and diversity of interpretation; Focuses on developing skills of textual analysis. Social and Human Sciences Involves studying diverse expressions of human Philosophy wisdom; Considers questions of meaning, purpose and truth; Focuses on developing skills of critical thinking and higher order questioning.
Understanding Christianity response: Reduce content depth rather than breadth Coherent content selection Spiral curriculum Explore the impact on Christian living today Weave in personal reflection and response RE Today 2016
Key purpose To support pupils in developing their understanding of Christianity, as a contribution to their understanding of the world and their own experience within it. Aims To enable pupils to know about and understand Christianity as a living world faith, by exploring core theological concepts To enable pupils to develop knowledge and skills in making sense of biblical texts and understanding their impact in the lives of Christians To develop pupils abilities to connect, critically reflect upon, evaluate and apply their learning to their own growing understanding of Christianity, of religion and belief more widely, of themselves, the world and human experience.
