2 Child-To-Child Evangelism Training Report Introduction We facilitated a 3 days Child-to-Child Evangelism training at Emmutsa C.D.C for around 51 children who were selected from the centre aged from years. The central objective for this training was to raise a generation of children disciplers who would each in turn be able to effectively disciple other children in or out of the Child Development Centre. This objective was well achieved. Objective: To raise a generation of children disciplers who would each be able to formally and informally disciple other children in or out of the Child Development Centre. Day One The children were led in icebreaking through nursery rhymes and the lessons thereof also brought out. The expressed their lessons learnt as to be courageous and not shy, to be attentive and active and to always be prepared. Each of these lessons was related to evangelism. The core objective for this training was then well spelt out to them. We then began with first topic, Child-to-Child Evangelism during which the concept was explained to the children. It was simplified to them as a child reaching another child with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. They were asked whether they had ever heard about Jesus Christ? If yes then what had they heard? The responses were: Jesus is God, He is coming again, He saves, heals, He is the Son of God and that He died on the cross. They were helped to understand a child in the context of Child-to-Child Evangelism relevant to them. This brought forth the UN definition, social definition, dependency related and Compassion related definition. The discussion went into the definition what evangelism is and as based on Matthew 28: We then explored what is bad news and what is Good News. They listed the following as bad news in the area: lying, truancy, drug abuse, deceit, abusing, stealing, fighting, witchcraft, killing and
3 fornication. They were urged to know what bad news is surrounding the person and what Good News would mean to that person. Good News listed included obedience, care and God loves you. Then topic on Why Do Child-to-Child Evangelism? followed. This explored the biblical justification for Childto Child Evangelism including Romans 3:23 and Matthew 28:19-20 with an emphasis of its being a command from God. They were helped to see that children are part of the fallen human race, children are also sinners, Christ came and died for all including children and that children should know this and that the Kingdom of God belongs to them. This was then very closely followed by the related topic of Why in Particular Should You as a Child be Involved in Child-to-Child Evangelism? The reasons listed were: they do understand each other s world, they are easily influenced by peers, they come from families and they speak each other s language. They had an interlude during which they watched a movie on Abraham and Isaac. were given an assignment to pick an item from the bad news that they would go and evangelize their family on. The topic that followed was on Where are children found in this community? The answers were hospitals, homes, weddings, funerals, birthday parties, churches, schools, video halls, project centre, play grounds, river, markets, along the road, disco matanga and firewood fetching points. Each had to pick three places where they were going to evangelize children and think of an approach they would use with them. The children were then taken through a topic titled God, Sin and Salvation. The intent of this topic was to help them to understand who God is as related to His attributes. The children did drawing exercises related to attributes of God. The second part helped them to understand Sin. They were given an exercise to draw a tree and its fruits illustrating Sin and its resultant sins. The two sub topics were linked with Salvation They were each given an assignment to go and tell the story of Abraham and Isaac to other 2 children and also explain their drawing to other children and note any ask questions the other children ask.
4 Day Two A review of the previous day s session was conducted. It revealed that the children had grasped a great deal from that day s session. They had also done evangelism assignments as tasked. The topic titled Journey through the Bible followed. This increased the knowledge of children on how to navigate through the Bible so efficiently. To help them, the children were given numerous practical exercises to help them grasp going through the Bible. The children did the exercises successfully. The main line in Child-To-Child Evangelism, that is, How To Carry Out Child-to-Child Evangelism was then launched into. After emphasis on reliance on God, the first area was One s Lifestyle which was portrayed clearly as being the foundation upon which we can build everything else that we do in evangelism. The children were asked to always ask themselves whether they are living in obedience to God. In that way, they would let their lives minister to the other children just as open letters to be read. At this point ten of them accepted Christ as their Saviour. The first tool was Songs. They were urged to have and use songs that are sound spiritually, thematic, with flowing rhymes and that the songs can have actions such as dance, dramatization and facial expressions. They were divided into groups and given exercises to sing thematic songs as follows. Group one were to sing a song of love, group two were to sing a song of forgiveness, group three were to sing a song a song on God s might. Drawing was the tool that followed. It exposed the children to what a drawing is, how they can come up with drawings, why they should use drawings in evangelizing other children and what sort of drawings they can use in evangelizing fellow children. They also explored aspect in a drawing that can make it be child friendly. They were led to discover some parts of the Bible that can be drawn and used in evangelizing fellow children. These included David and Goliath, David and King Saul, Jesus Journey to Jerusalem, The birth of Jesus, the Lost Son, Paul on way to Damascus and Noah and the Ark. They were tasked to come up with drawings from the book of 1 Samuel and further that they should be able to explain/demystify that drawing, bring out a lesson from the drawing, allow the audience to relate to the story and bring out the life application from the story. The tool that followed was Questions and Answers. A variety of the questions that they were given to use were: what, why, where, when, which, who, how, distinguish, explain, state, do and does. An illustration was done for them on the questions using a video of dancing children and a photo of a boy and a girl on the road. Then sample questions were further developed for them from 1 Samuel 16:1-23.
5 They were finally given an assignment to generate different questions using what, why, where, when, which, who and how from the books of 1 st and 2 nd Samuel. Day Three We carried out devotion from Roman 10:11 14 then did a review of the previous day s sessions. This was then followed by a check on the assignment to establish that they had done it. Then the first topic of the day was Story Telling beginning with a real presentation of a story. This topic addressed areas such as why, where and how do we tell stories. The other things were: where do we find stories and what types of stories do we tell. The children were asked to list stories found in the Bible and the list included David and Goliath, Gideon, Jonathan and David, Samson, Esau and Jacob and The Lost Coin and son. An assignment was given to groups to pick one story from those related to David to share in the forthcoming VBS. The tool which followed was Drama. It was first of all defined to them then we showed them how to use it effectively in Child to Child Evangelism. They were then given a case to dramatize of a project girl being seduced by a boy as another project intervenes to stop the process. They made the drama and briefly presented them to the rest. They were explained to practically things to consider and skills required in drama as well as the benefits of using drama. Then the session that followed identified the challenges faced by the community. They generated a list that included: drug abuse, lack of mentorship and guidance, child labour (as herd s boys), school dropout or negligence by the parents to do so, inadequate food, lack of school fees, child discipleship gaps, influence towards satanic things and immodest dressing. It was at this point that we note Kuya Ibra suffers from rejection by parents, Sophia Eunice confessed being under peer influence towards satanic things while Debra believes she is influenced by some evil spirit. Action Plan 1. Each was to come up with a drawing from 1 st Samuel and present it at the project to an age group of choice on any of the days at the project. 2. Each was to generate questions and answers from 1 st and 2 nd Samuel using what, why, where, when, which, who and how and the best 20 questions were to be used as Bible trivia challenge at the project.

They were to prepare skits based on 1 st and 2 nd Samuel in groups of boys and girls as follows: Group one was to make their skit on the Family of Elkana and the members were Nipher Joan, Debrah Ayuma, Phanice Khareza, Eunice Bololo, Jackline Okwisa, and Joan Atero. Group two were to prepare a skit on Anointing of David and the members were Aggrey Ouya, Jotham Osinu, Paul Ahemba, Zephania Mwando and Brian Otieno. These ones would make their presentation during the VBS as well as at any other forum. Salvation: The following gave their lives to Jesus 1. Mercy Kavesa 2. Joan Atero 3. Briton Mulama 4. Grace Akinyi 5. Brian Otieno 6. Jotham Kelvin 7. Favin Imani 8. Maurice Kwendo 9. Anne Makutsa 10. Melvin Anindo Kindly follow them up to disciple them accordingly in their walk of faith. 11. Phanice Khavesa 12. Eunice Butolo 13. Justus Tete Conclusion The intended objective for the training was achieved. We have helped to raise a generation of worker. With consistency and commitment, these children can do exploits. Continually stir them up by giving them opportunity to evangelize others.
