A Moment to Lay Your Burdens Down Gathering at the Table of Grace Communion Prayer Leader: First, God created one person. People: But it was not right for that one person to be alone. Leader: That person had God, but needed an equal, so God made animals. People: We have giraffes! We have dogs! We have hawks! Leader: But it still wasn't enough, so God made another person, an equal, someone to share with, and talk with. God created relationship. God created communion. People: This at last is bone of my bone, flesh of my flesh! Leader: And then God took it one step further. God looked at the many people living in relationship with one another and decided to join the community! God came to be with us as one of us, and his human family called him Jesus.

Then he took the cup, saying, "This is my blood." People: This at last is bone of my bone, flesh of my flesh! Leader: Come, Holy Spirit, and make us one body of Christ. People: This at last is bone of my bone, flesh of my flesh! Leader: Bone of our bone; flesh of our flesh: one with each other and all humanity: the Body of Christ. Sharing of the Bread and Cup (As the bread and cup are served, the choir will sing The Lord Bless You and Keep You by Helvering. Drink the cup as you are served as a sign of God s particular love for you. 5 4 Time of Prayer Prayers of the People Believing that each joy and/or concern expressed is indeed a prayer, after each expression, the Pastor will say: Lord, in your mercy. And the people may respond: Hear our prayer. Praying in Silence Our Lord s Prayer ( Our Father is the traditional way this prayer begins. You are invited to use whatever name for God you find most meaningful (Father, Mother, Creator, God, etc.). These names for God create a beautiful chorus.) Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the Kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen. With God s help we will honor Colonial Church in our conduct, support its program, and extend the influence of Christ throughout the world.

DaVita McCallister Our dynamic guest preacher today is the Rev. Da Vita McCallister who opened worship at the United Church of Christ s 50th Anniversary General Synod. Rev. Da Vita Day McCallister is a partner, mother, ordained minister, entrepreneur, philanthropist, writer and advocate for marginalized communities. She currently serves as the Associate Conference Minister for Leadership and Vitality in the CT Conference of the United Church of Christ. Her work includes leading the Racial Justice Ministry and Clergy and Lay Excellence groups for the Conference. She has served in the national setting of the United Church of Christ, with the

7 Fund for Theological Education and in parish ministry. Rev. McCallister takes great pride in her Spiritual heritage as the great granddaughter of the late Rev. Jesse Baldwin, a pastor in rural Florida for over 65 years. We are blessed to have her with us today! 6 Our 10:00am Thursday morning Bible Study is doing something new this fall. We are going to do sessions with the Kerygma Discovering the Bible curriculum. Even if you cannot make the sessions, we re going to put the readings in our weekly study guide. If you would like to take part in the study, simply come on Thursdays or signup for the group via infellowship from the church website.
