Here may follow: Gloria In Excelsis Glory to God in the highest, and peace to His people on earth. Lord God, heavenly King, almighty God and Father, we worship you, we give you thanks, we praise you for your glory. Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father, Lord God, Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world: have mercy on us; you are seated at the right hand of the Father: receive our prayer. For you alone are the Holy One; you alone are the Lord: you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen. HOLY BAPTISM (Infants) (BCP Pg. 271) Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! By his great mercy He has given us a new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who are being protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. 1 Peter 1:3-5 In truth I tell you, no one can enter the Kingdom of God without being born from water and the Spirit. John 3:5 By Baptism we were buried with Christ and lay dead, in order that, as Christ was raised from the dead in the splendour of the Father, so also we might set our feet upon the new path of life. Roman 6:4 THE GREETING MINISTER: Blessed be God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Alleluia! Alleluia! And blessed be His Kingdom now and for ever. Amen. Alleluia! Alleluia! 5

DECLARATION (BCP Pg. 272) MINISTER: In Holy Baptism, the Church proclaims the Good News of our incorporation into the Kingdom of God, a Kingdom which Jesus Christ, our Incarnate Lord, inaugurated by His life of perfect trust and obedience to the Father. By the power of the Holy Spirit, He brought into being a people for His own possession, which people we are. By the power of the Holy Spirit, we are united with Christ in Holy Baptism, sharing not only in His death but also in His resurrection, becoming God's children by adoption and grace, thus changing our created nature so deeply that the Holy Scripture says that in Baptism we are born again. Let us therefore pray that those who have come for Baptism may receive, in this Holy Sacrament, that blessing which by nature they cannot have, that they may be made living members of the Church, which is the Body of Christ, and so be set free from the bondage of sin. MINISTER: The Lord be with you. And also with you. MINISTER: Let us pray. Heavenly Father, by the power of your Holy Spirit you gave to your children new life through the water of Baptism. Grant that this child (these children) raised to new life in Christ, may serve you in faith and love and may grow into the full stature of your Son Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. The Collect of the day shall be said or sung by the President. : Let us pray. THE COLLECT Second Sunday in Lent (Page 163 BCP) O God, whose glory it is always to have mercy: Be gracious to all who have gone astray from your ways, and bring them again with penitent hearts and steadfast faith to embrace and hold fast the unchangeable truth of your Word, Jesus Christ your Son: who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns one God, for ever and ever. Amen. 6

FIRST LESSON REFLECTION: Our reading is two stories of gifts from God. In the first, Abram is promised a son and many descendants. In the second, God promises the Promised Land to them. In both stories, Abram comes in contact with the divine in visions. In the first, he trusts even though he has no concrete evidence, but in the second, God indicates his commitment through the symbol of fire. READER: 7:30a.m. Sandra Denny 9:15a.m. Yvette Hoyte Genesis 15:1-12,17-18 The word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision, "Do not be afraid, Abram, I am your shield; your reward shall be very great." But Abram said, "O Lord God, what will you give me, for I continue childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?" And Abram said, "You have given me no offspring, and so a slave born in my house is to be my heir." But the word of the Lord came to him, "This man shall not be your heir; no one but your very own issue shall be your heir." He brought him outside and said, "Look toward heaven and count the stars, if you are able to count them." Then he said to him, "So shall your descendants be." And he believed the Lord; and the Lord reckoned it to him as righteousness. Then he said to him, "I am the Lord who brought you from Ur of the Chaldeans, to give you this land to possess." But he said, "O Lord God, how am I to know that I shall possess it?" He said to him, "Bring me a heifer three years old, a female goat three years old, a ram three years old, a turtledove, and a young pigeon." He brought him all these and cut them in two, laying each half over against the other; but he did not cut the birds in two. And when birds of prey came down on the carcasses, Abram drove them away. As the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram, and a deep and terrifying darkness descended upon him. When the sun had gone down and it was dark, a smoking fire pot and a flaming torch passed between these pieces. On that day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying, "To your descendants I give this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the river Euphrates." THE PSALM: 27 REFLECTION: The psalmist expresses great trust and confidence in the Lord and asks always to be in God s presence. 7:30 a.m. (page 499 BCP) Dominus illuminatio 1 The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom then shall I fear? * the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom then shall I be afraid? 2 When evildoers came upon me to eat up my flesh, * it was they, my foes and my adversaries, who stumbled and fell. 7

3 Though an army should encamp against me, * yet my heart shall not be afraid; 4 And though war should rise up against me, * yet will I put my trust in him. 5 One thing have I asked of the Lord; one thing I seek; * that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life; 6 To behold the fair beauty of the Lord * and to seek him in his temple. 7 For in the day of trouble he shall keep me safe in his shelter; * he shall hide me in the secrecy of his dwelling and set me high upon a rock. 8 Even now he lifts up my head * above my enemies round about me. 9 Therefore I will offer in his dwelling an oblation with sounds of great gladness; * I will sing and make music to the Lord. 10 Hearken to my voice, O Lord, when I call; * have mercy on me and answer me. 11 You speak in my heart and say, "Seek my face." * Your face, Lord, will I seek. 12 Hide not your face from me, * nor turn away your servant in displeasure. 13 You have been my helper; cast me not away; * do not forsake me, O God of my salvation. 14 Though my father and my mother forsake me, * the Lord will sustain me. 15 Show me your way, O Lord; * lead me on a level path, because of my enemies. 16 Deliver me not into the hand of my adversaries, * for false witnesses have risen up against me, and also those who speak malice. 17 What if I had not believed that I should see the goodness of the Lord * in the land of the living! 18 O tarry and await the Lord's pleasure; be strong, and he shall comfort your heart; * wait patiently for the Lord. Glory to the Father, and to the Son: and to the Holy Spirit: as it was in the beginning, is now, and shall be for ever. Amen. 8

9:15 a.m. Dominus illuminatio 1.THE Lord is my light and my salvation; whom then shall I fear : the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom then shall I be afraid? 2. When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh: they stumbled and fell. 3. Though an host of men were laid against me, yet shall not my heart be afraid: and though there rose up war against me, yet will I put my trust in him. 4. One thing have I desired of the Lord, which I will require: even that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the fair beauty of the Lord, and to visit his temple. 5. For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his tabernacle: yea, in the secret place of his dwelling shall he hide me, and set me up upon a rock of stone. 6. And now shall he lift up mine head: above mine enemies round about me. 7. Therefore will I offer in his dwelling an oblation with great gladness: I will sing, and speak praises unto the Lord. 8. Hearken unto my voice, O Lord, when I cry unto thee: have mercy upon me, and hear me. 9. My heart hath talked of thee, Seek ye my face: Thy face, Lord, will I seek. 10. O hide not thou thy face from me: nor cast thy servant away in displeasure. 11. Thou hast been my succour: leave me not, neither forsake me, O God of my salvation. 12. When my father and my mother forsake me: the Lord taketh me up. 13. Teach me the way, O Lord: and lead in the right way, because of mine enemies. 14. Deliver me not over into the will of mine adversaries: for there are false witnesses risen up against me, and such as speak wrong. 15. I should utterly have fainted: but that I believe verily to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. 16. O tarry thou the Lord s leisure: be strong, and he shall comfort thine heart; and put thou thy trust in the Lord. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. 9

SECOND LESSON REFLECTION: At a time when he is in prison, Paul offers himself as an example of centering oneself in Christ, in his sufferings, even though he is yet to understand Christ completely. Many members of the Church at Philippi, he says, make the mistake of either being self-centred or insisting on following Jewish practices READER: 7:30a.m. Maxine McClean-Goddard 9:15a.m. Church Army Philippians 3:17-4:1 Brothers and sisters, join in imitating me, and observe those who live according to the example you have in us. For many live as enemies of the cross of Christ; I have often told you of them, and now I tell you even with tears. Their end is destruction; their god is the belly; and their glory is in their shame; their minds are set on earthly things. But our citizenship is in heaven, and it is from there that we are expecting a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. He will transform the body of our humiliation that it may be conformed to the body of his glory, by the power that also enables him to make all things subject to himself. Therefore, my brothers and sisters, whom I love and long for, my joy and crown, stand firm in the Lord in this way, my beloved. GRADUAL HYMN: 495 Amazing grace - how sweet the sound - that saved a wretch like me! I once was lost, but now am found; was blind, but now I see. Twas grace that taught my heart to fear, and grace my fears relieved; how precious did that grace appear the hour I first believed. Through many dangers, toils and snares, I have already come; tis grace hath brought me safe thus far, and grace will lead me home. When we ve been there ten thousand years, bright shining as the sun, we ve no less days to sing God s praise than when we ve first begun. Words: John Newton ( ) 10

THE GOSPEL REFLECTION: Warned that his life is in danger, Jesus says that he still has much to do in his earthly ministry, but the time will shortly come when his work will be complete. He has tried to bring the people of Judea to him but they have not listened to the good news. Only when they see his triumphal entry into Jerusalem on the first Palm Sunday will they recognize him for who he is. Luke 13:31-35 Some Pharisees came and said to him, "Get away from here, for Herod wants to kill you." He said to them, "Go and tell that fox for me, 'Listen, I am casting out demons and performing cures today and tomorrow, and on the third day I finish my work. Yet today, tomorrow, and the next day I must be on my way, because it is impossible for a prophet to be killed outside of Jerusalem.' Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often have I desired to gather your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing! See, your house is left to you. And I tell you, you will not see me until the time comes when you say, 'Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord.'" THE SERMON HYMN AFTER THE SERMON: 494 All to Jesus I surrender, all to him I freely give; I will ever love and trust him, in his presence daily live. Refrain: I surrender all, I surrender all, all to thee, my blessed Saviour, I surrender all. All to Jesus I surrender, humbly at his feet I bow; worldly pleasures all forsaken, take me, Jesus, take me now. Refrain: 11

All to Jesus I surrender, make me, Saviour, wholly thine; let me feel the Holy Spirit, truly know that thou art mine. Refrain: All to Jesus I surrender, Lord, I give myself to thee; fill me with thy love and power, let thy blessing fall on me. Refrain: All to Jesus I surrender, now I feel the sacred flame; O the joy of full salvation! Glory, glory to his name! Refrain: Words: Judson Wheeler Van DeVenter ( ) 12

THE NICENE CREED (BCP Page 104) We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is seen or unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, one in Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he was born of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered, died and was buried. On the third day he rose again in fulfilment of the Scriptures; He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father. With the Father and the Son he is worshipped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead. and the life of the world to come. Amen. THE APOSTLES' CREED (BCP Page 106) I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. 13

We thank you Heavenly Father for the gift of water; over it your Holy Spirit moved in the beginning of creation; through it you led the children of Israel out of the bondage of Egypt; in it your son Jesus received the Baptism of John and was anointed by the Holy Spirit; fulfilling His Ministry by the offering of Himself on the Cross, blood and water flowed from His side. We thank you Heavenly Father because you have appointed the water of Baptism for the regeneration of all people, through Jesus Christ your Son. In joyful obedience to Him, we make disciples of all nations and baptize them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Now therefore sanctify this water by the same Holy Spirit, and grant that all who are baptized in it may be united with Christ, forgiven in Him, set free from the bondage of sin and raised with Christ to eternal life. By Him, and with Him, and in Him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit all honour and glory are yours, Almighty Father, now and forever. Amen. The minister then makes the sign of the cross saying: MINISTER: God has united you to Himself and received you into His family the Church. I sign you with the cross, the sign of Christ. Do not be ashamed to confess the faith of Christ crucified. Fight valiantly against all evil and continue Christ's faithful servant to the end of your life. The minister or another person may give a lighted candle to the parents or godparents of each child, saying: MINISTER: God has rescued us from the power of darkness and brought us into the Kingdom of His beloved Son. Receive this light and walk as a child of light. Let your light so shine among men, that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven. WELCOME (BCP Pg. 280) MINISTER: My brothers and sisters in Christ, let us welcome the newly baptized! 17

We welcome you into the Lord's family. We are members together of Christ, children of the same heavenly Father and inheritors together of His kingdom. Amen. When there is no Eucharist the service proceeds as follows: MINISTER: Jesus taught us to call God our Father, and so in faith and trust we say: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your Name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Amen. Almighty God our heavenly Father whose beloved Son Jesus Christ shared with the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Joseph the life of an earthly home at Nazareth, we pray for your blessing on the homes (home) of these children (this child): Give such grace and wisdom to all who have the care of them (him/her) that by their word and example they (he/she) may learn to know and love you, and so come to your eternal home in heaven, through the same your Son Jesus Christ our Saviour. Amen. 18

or God our Father, whose Son our Lord grew up in a home at Nazareth: we pray for the homes (home) of these children (this child), that they (it) may be hallowed by prayer and be the abode of your love, joy and peace. Give to their (his/her) parents care and understanding in the training of their children (child) and may they by their teaching and example lead them (him/her) in the way of Christ, that they (he/she) may grow in grace and in the knowledge of your love, for the honour and glory of your name. Amen. One of the prayers above might be included in the Intercession. MINISTER: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with us all evermore. Amen. 19

OFFERTORY HYMN: 740 HYMN: 740 Pleasant are thy courts above, in the land of light and love; pleasant are thy courts below in this land of sin and woe; Oh, my spirit longs and faints for the converse of thy saints, for the brightness of thy face, for thy fullness, God of grace. Happy birds that sing and fly round thy altars, O most high; happier souls that find a rest in a heavenly father s breast; like the wandering dove that found no repose on earth around, they can to their ark repair, and enjoy it ever there. Happy souls, their praises flow even in this vale of woe; waters in the desert rise, manna feeds them from the skies; on they go from strength to strength, till they reach thy throne at length, at thy feet adoring fall, who hast led them safe through all. Lord, be mine this prize to win, guide me through a world of sin, keep me by thy saving grace, give me at thy side a place; sun and shield alike thou art, guide and guard my erring heart. grace and glory flow from thee; shower, O shower them, Lord, on me. Words: Henry Francis Lyte ( ),

THE PRESENTATION OF OFFERINGS (BCP Page 126) When the offerings are presented at the altar, either `A' or `B' shall be said: A Through your goodness, Lord, we have this bread and wine to offer, the fruit of the earth and the work of human hands. They will become our spiritual food. ALL All things come from you, O Lord, and of your own do we give you, Blessed be God for ever. Amen. B AND PEOPLE Father, we offer to you these gifts which you have given us; this bread, this wine, this money. With them we offer ourselves, our lives, and our work, to become through your Holy Spirit a reasonable, holy, and lively sacrifice. As this bread and wine become the Body and Blood of Christ, so may we and all your people become channels of your love; through the same Christ our Lord. Amen. THE EUCHARISTIC PRAYER (BCP Pages ) The President shall indicate which form of the Eucharistic Prayer including Proper Prefaces shall be used. ALL The Lord be with you. And also with you. ALL Lift up your hearts. We lift them up to the Lord. ALL Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give God thanks and praise. 41 The Proper Preface shall follow: PROPER PREFACE Lent For you bid your faithful people cleanse their hearts, and prepare with joy for the Paschal feast; that, fervent in prayer and in works of mercy, and renewed by your Word and Sacraments, they may come to the fullness of grace which you have prepared for those who love you. Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with angels and archangels and with all the company of heaven, who forever sing this hymn to proclaim the glory of your Name: Holy, holy, holy, Lord, God of power and might; heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. One of the forms A, B, C, D or E shall now be used. 41

EUCHARISTIC PRAYER A (BCP Pages 131) All Holy and glorious Father, our Creator God, we give you thanks because in your loving wisdom you brought all things into being, and are truly worthy of praise from every creature you have made. Again and again we have turned away from you; yet in every age your steadfast love has called us to return, to live in union with you: for it is your eternal purpose to put new life into all things and make them holy. Through your Son, Jesus Christ who took our human nature upon Him you have redeemed the world from the bondage of sin: and by the power of your Holy Spirit you have gathered a people to yourself, to make known in every place His perfect offering which He made to the glory of your Name. Hear us, therefore, Father, through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord; And grant that these gifts of bread and wine may be unto us His Body and Blood. For, on the night He was betrayed He took bread, and when he had given thanks to you, He broke it and gave it to his disciples and said: "Take this, and eat it: "This is my Body which is given for you. "Do this for the remembrance of me." And after supper He took the cup of wine: and when He had given thanks, he gave it to them and said: "Drink this, all of you: "This is my Blood of the New Covenant, "which is shed for you and for many "for the forgiveness of sins. "Whenever you drink it, "do this for the remembrance of me." Let us proclaim the mystery of our faith. One of the following Acclamations shall be said: ALL Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again. or Jesus is Lord. He has reconciled us to himself: Christ makes all things new. or Christ is Lord. Through His death we were made children of God: He is our hope of glory. And so, Heavenly Father, rejoicing in His Holy Incarnation; His Blessed Passion and His Perfect Sacrifice made once for all upon the Cross; His Mighty Resurrection from the dead; His Glorious Ascension into heaven; and looking for His Coming in glory; we offer to you this Bread and this Cup. We pray that you will accept 42

this sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving; and grant that all who eat and drink of the Body and Blood of your Son, our great High Priest, may be renewed by your Holy Spirit, and be one Body, one Spirit, in Him. Let faith and love unite in us. Unite us with all Bishops, all other ministers of your Word and Sacraments, and with the whole people of God, living and departed, whom you have made for yourself. Confirm us in holiness, that we may be found ready to join the company of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Holy Apostles, and all your saints, when our Lord Jesus Christ comes again: Forever giving you thanks and praise through Him from whom all good things do come. With Him and in Him and through Him, by the power of the Holy Spirit, we worship you, Father Almighty, with all who stand before you in earth and heaven, in songs of everlasting praise: ALL Blessing and honour and glory and power Be yours for ever and ever. Amen. 43

EUCHARISTIC PRAYER B (BCP Pages 135) Holy and gracious Father, all creation rightly gives you praise. All life, all holiness, comes from you through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, whom you sent to share our human nature, to live and die as one of us, to reconcile us to you, the God and Father of all. We therefore bring you these gifts, and we ask you to make them holy by the power of your Spirit, that they may become the Body and Blood of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ, who offered Himself in obedience to your will, the Perfect Sacrifice for all mankind. On the night he was betrayed, he took bread, and when he had given thanks to you, He broke it and gave it to his disciples and said: "Take this and eat it: "This is my Body which is given for you. "Do this for the remembrance of me." After supper he took the cup of wine and when he had given thanks He gave it to them and said: "Drink this, all of you: "This is my Blood of the New Covenant, "Which is shed for you and for many "for the forgiveness of sins. "Do this, whenever you drink it, "For the remembrance of me." One of the following Acclamations shall be said: ALL When we eat this Bread and drink this Cup, we proclaim the death of Christ until he comes again. or Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again. or Christ Jesus is Lord. He has set us free from the law of sin and death: In his name alone is our salvation. Father, calling to mind the death your Son endured for our salvation; His Glorious Resurrection and Ascension; His continual intercession for us in heaven; and looking for His coming again in glory, we offer you, in thanksgiving, this holy and life-giving sacrifice. Look with favour on your Church's offering, and grant that we who eat and drink these holy gifts may be filled with your Holy Spirit and become one body in Christ, and serve you in unity, constancy and peace. May He make us a perpetual offering to you and enable us, in communion with blessed Mary and the whole company of heaven, to share in the inheritance of your saints. With Him, and in Him, and through Him, by the power of the Holy Spirit, we worship you, Father Almighty, with all who stand before you in earth and heaven in songs of everlasting praise: ALL Blessing and honour and glory and power Be yours for ever and ever. Amen. 44

EUCHARISTIC PRAYER C (BCP Pages 137) We give thanks to you Lord our God, for the goodness and love you have made known to us in creation; in calling Israel to be your people; in your Word spoken through the prophets; and above all in the Word made flesh, Jesus your Son. For in these last days you sent him to be incarnate from the Virgin Mary, to be the Saviour and Redeemer of the world. In him, you have delivered us from evil, and made us worthy to stand before you. In him, you have brought us out of error into truth, out of sin into righteousness, out of death into life. For, on the night that he was betrayed He took bread; and when He had given thanks to you, He broke it and gave it to His disciples, and said, "Take this, and eat it: This is my Body, which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me." And after supper He took the cup of wine; and when He had given thanks, He gave it to them, and said, "Drink this, all of you; This is my Blood of the New Covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me." Therefore, Father, according to His command, ALL We remember His death We proclaim His resurrection we await His coming in glory. And we offer our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving to you, Lord of all; presenting to you, from your creation, this bread and this wine. We pray you, gracious God, to send your Holy Spirit upon these gifts that they may be the sacrament of the Body of Christ and His Blood of the New Covenant. Unite us to your Son in His sacrifice that we, made acceptable in Him, may be sanctified by the Holy Spirit. In the fullness of time, reconcile all things in Christ, and make them new, and bring us to that city of light where you dwell with all your sons and daughters; through Jesus Christ our Lord, the firstborn of all creation, the head of the Church, and the author of our salvation. By whom, and with whom, and in whom, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honour and glory are yours, almighty Father, now and ever. PEOPLE Amen. 45

EUCHARISTIC PRAYER D (BCP Pages 140) All glory, praise and thanksgiving be unto you, O Lord, Holy Father, Almighty, Everlasting God, you created the world and all mankind, and of your tender mercy gave your only Son Jesus Christ to take our nature upon Him, and to suffer death upon the cross, for our redemption, He made there, by His own oblation of Himself once offered, a full, perfect, and sufficient sacrifice, oblation and satisfaction for the sins of the whole world; and He instituted, and in his holy Gospel commanded us to continue, a perpetual memory of His precious death, until His coming again. Hear us, O merciful Father, we most humbly beseech you; and be pleased to accept, bless and sanctify these gifts and creatures of bread and wine; that they may be for us the Body and Blood of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. For, on the night He was betrayed He took bread, and when He had given thanks to you, He broke it and gave it to His disciples and said: Take this, and eat it: This is my Body which is given for you, Do this for the remembrance of me. And after supper He took the cup of wine: and when He had given thanks, He gave it to them and said: Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the New Covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me. In faith we acclaim You, O Christ ALL Dying You destroyed our death; Rising You restored our life; Christ Jesus, come in glory. Now therefore, O Lord and heavenly Father, we your servants with all your holy people, having in remembrance the blessed passion, mighty resurrection, and glorious ascension of your beloved Son, do offer unto your Divine Majesty this Bread of eternal life and this Cup of everlasting salvation, rendering thanks to you for the wonderful redemption which you have made possible for us in Him. And we beseech you O Father, to accept upon your heavenly altar, this sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving; and to grant that by the merits and death of your Son Jesus Christ, and through faith in His blood, we and all your whole Church may obtain remission of our sins and all other benefits of His passion. And we pray that by the power of your Holy Spirit all who shall be partakers of this holy Communion may be filled with your grace and heavenly benediction, and be numbered in the glorious company of your Saints. And here we offer and present unto you, O Lord, ourselves, our souls and bodies, to be a reasonable, holy and lively sacrifice. And although we are unworthy to offer unto you any sacrifice, yet we beseech you to accept this, our bounden duty and service, 46

not weighing our merits but pardoning our offences; Through Jesus Christ our Lord, by whom, and with whom, and in whom, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honour and glory be unto you, O Father Almighty, throughout all ages, world without end. PEOPLE Amen 47

EUCHARISTIC PRAYER E (BCP Pages 142) Sovereign, lord and Father To you be glory and praise for ever In your boundless wisdom you brought creation into being; In your great love you fashioned us in your image; In your tender compassion you sent your Son, Jesus Christ, Our Saviour, to share our human nature; In the power of the Holy Spirit; He overcame the power of sin and death and brought your people to new birth as first fruits of your new creation. On the night that He was betrayed He took bread, and when He had given thanks to you, He broke it and gave it to his disciples and said, Take this, and eat it: This is my Body which is given for you, Do this for the remembrance of me And after supper He took the cup of wine: and when He had given thanks, He gave it to them and said: Drink this, all of you: This is my blood of the New Covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me. ALL We remember His Death We proclaim His resurrection We await His coming in glory And we offer you, Father, our sacrifice of thanks and praise. Send your Holy Spirit on these gifts of Bread and wine that they may become the Body and Blood of your Son, Jesus, our Lord, and Redeemer. As we partake of this holy food of new and unending life, may your Holy Spirit establish us as a royal priesthood with the Blessed Virgin Mary, St. N- and all your sons and daughters who share in your eternal inheritance; Through Jesus Christ our Lord, With Him and in Him and through Him. by the power of the Holy Spirit, we worship you, Father Almighty, with all who stand before you in earth and heaven, in songs of everlasting praise. All Blessing and honour and glory and power Be yours for ever and ever. Amen There, Father, according to the command of your dearly beloved Son 48

THE LORD S PRAYER (BCP Page 144) As our Saviour has taught us, so we pray: ALL Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your Name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen. THE BREAKING OF BREAD (BCP Page 145) We break this bread to share in the body of Christ. ALL : Though we are many, we are one body, because we all share in one bread. or God of Promise, You have prepared a banquet for us Happy are those who are called to the supper of the Lamb or This is the true bread which comes from heaven Whoever eats this bread will live forever. The Agnus Dei may follow here. 49

THE COMMUNION THE INVITATION (BCP Page ) One of the following forms shall be used: FORM A My brothers and sisters in Christ, draw near and receive His Body which He gave for you, and His Blood, which He shed for you. Remember that He died for you, and feed on Him in your hearts by faith with thanksgiving. Grant us, gracious Lord, that we may so eat the flesh of your dear Son, Jesus Christ and drink His blood, that we may evermore dwell in Him and He in us. Amen. FORM B The Gifts of God for the People of God. Our souls will feast and be satisfied, and we will sing glad songs of praise to Him. FORM C Draw near and receive the Body and blood of our Saviour Jesus Christ with faith and thanksgiving. ALL We do not presume to come to this your table, most merciful Father, trusting in our own righteousness, but only in your boundless mercy. We are not even worthy to gather up the crumbs under your table. But you are the Lord ever the same, ever merciful. Grant therefore Lord of grace and love that we may so eat the flesh of your dear Son Jesus Christ and drink his blood that with bodies and souls made clean from every stain of sin we may evermore dwell in him, and he in us. 50

THE AGNUS DEI (BCP Page 147) Either Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world: have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world: have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world: grant us peace. or Jesus, Lamb of God: have mercy on us. Jesus, bearer of our sins: have mercy on us. Jesus, redeemer of the world: give us your peace. During the administration, the Ministers say to each communicant: The Body of Christ given for you. The Blood of Christ shed for you. and the communicant replies, each time: Amen. 51

COMMUNION HYMNS 748MP, 850, 540, 359MP HYMN: 748 MP What a wonderful change in my life has been wrought since Jesus came into my heart! I have light in my soul for which long I had sought, since Jesus came into my heart! Since Jesus came into my heart, since Jesus came into my heart, floods of joy o er my soul like the sea billows roll, since Jesus came into my heart! I have ceased from my wandering and going astray since Jesus came into my heart! And my sins, which where many, are all washed away since Jesus came into my heart! I'm possessed of a hope that is steadfast and sure, since Jesus came into my heart! And no dark clouds of doubt now my pathway obscure, since Jesus came into my heart! There's a light in the valley of death now for me, since Jesus came into my heart! And the gates of the City beyond I can see, since Jesus came into my heart! I shall go there to dwell in that City, I know, since Jesus came into my heart! and I'm happy, so happy, as onward I go, since Jesus came into my heart! Words: Rufus Henry McDaniel ( ) 52

HYMN: 850 Search me, O God, and know my heart today; try me, O Lord, and know my thoughts, I pray: see if there be some wicked way in me, cleanse me from every sin and set me free. I praise thee, Lord, for cleansing me from sin; fulfil thy word, and make me pure within; fill me with fire, where once I burned with shame, grant my desire to magnify thy name. Lord, take my life, and make it wholly thine; fill my poor heart with thy great love divine; take all my will, my passion, self and pride; I now surrender - Lord, in me abide. O Holy Ghost, revival comes from thee; send a revival - start the work in me: thy word declares thou wilt supply our need; for blessing now, O Lord, I humbly plead. Words: J. (James) Edwin Orr ( ) Words The Estate of the late J. Edwin Orr. Used by permission of Mrs. Carol Orr HYMN: 540 Take time to be holy, speak oft with thy Lord; abide in him always, and feed on his word. Make friends of God s children, help those who are weak; forgetting in nothing his blessing to seek. Take time to be holy, the world rushes on; spend much time in secret with Jesus alone by looking to Jesus, like him thou shalt be! Thy friends in thy conduct his likeness shall see. Take time to be holy, let him be thy guide; and run not before him, whatever betide; in joy or in sorrow still follow thy Lord, and, looking to Jesus, still trust in his word. 53

Take time to be holy, be calm in thy soul; each thought and each temper beneath his control; thus led by his Spirit to fountains of love, thou soon shalt be fitted for service above. Words: William Dunn Longstaff ( ) 359 MP Jesus calls us; o'er the tumult of our life's wild, restless sea; day by day His voice is sounding, saying, "Christian, follow me." As, of old, apostles heard it by the Galilean lake, turned from home and toil and kindred, leaving all for His dear sake. Jesus calls us from the worship of the vain world's golden store, from each idol that would keep us, saying, "Christian, love Me more." In our joys and in our sorrows, days of toil and hours of ease, still He calls, in cares and pleasures, "Christian, love Me more than these." Jesus calls us! By Thy mercies, Saviour, may we hear Thy call, give our hearts to Thine obedience, serve and love Thee best of all. Words: Cecil Frances Alexander ( ) 54

THE DISMISSAL Post Communion (BCP Page ) One of the following shall be used: ALL Almighty Father, we thank you for feeding us with the Body and Blood of your Son Jesus Christ. May we who share His Body live His risen life; we who drink His cup bring life to others; we upon whom your Spirit shines give light to the world. Help us to continue in faithful witness to your Word, so we and all your children shall be free, and the whole earth live to praise your Name, through Christ our Lord. Amen. Or Eternal God and Heavenly Father, we thank you for feeding us with the Body and Blood of your Son Jesus Christ. Send us now into the world in peace, and grant us strength and courage to love and serve you, and all persons in you, with gladness and singleness of heart, through your Son Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen or Almighty and everliving God, we thank you for feeding us with the spiritual food of the most precious Body and Blood of your Son our Saviour Jesus Christ; and for assuring us in these holy mysteries that we are living members of the Body of your Son, and heirs of your eternal kingdom. And now, Father, send us out to do the work you have given us to do, to love and serve you as faithful witnesses of Christ our Lord. To Him, to you, and to the Holy Spirit, be honour and glory, now and forever more. Amen. DEDICATION PRAYER Lord, be with us this day and throughout the week; Within us to purify us; Above us to draw us up; Before us to lead us; Behind us to restrain us; Around us to protect us. Amen 55

RECESSIONAL HYMN: 764 A&M Rescue the perishing, Care for the dying Snatch them in pity from sin and the grave; Weep o'er the erring one, Lift up the fallen, Tell them of Jesus the mighty to save. Rescue the perishing, Care for the dying; Jesus is merciful, Jesus will save. Though they are slighting Him, Still He is waiting, Waiting the penitent child to receive; Plead with them earnestly, Plead with them gently; He will forgive if they only believe. Rescue the perishing, etc Down in the human heart, Crush'd by the tempter, Feelings lie buried that grace can restore; Touch'd by a loving heart, Waken'd by kindness, Chords that were broken will vibrate once more Rescue the perishing, etc Rescue the perishing; Duty demands it; Strength for thy labour the Lord will provide: Back to the narrow way Patiently win them; Tell the poor wand'rer a Saviour has died.
