LESSON 1: SOLA SCRIPTURA You are Agent Z, and you are about to set out on an important mission to the Geneva Galaxy. Your spaceship has food, water, and oxygen for the trip.

You do not know where the Geneva Galaxy is located! What do you need? You need your map. A map tells you where to find the Geneva Galaxy. The universe is filled with billions of galaxies.

Now you are heading in the right direction. The Bible is like a map. Without the Bible, we would never find God.

The Bible has several other names. Sometimes we call it Scripture. We also call it the Word of God, because God gave it to us so that we can know Him.

5 LESSON 1: SOLA SCRIPTURA You are Agent Z, and you are about to set out on an important mission to the Geneva Galaxy. Your spaceship has food, water, and oxygen for the trip. You have all the fuel you need. You sit down in the pilot seat behind the control panel and start the engine. But wait! Something important is missing. You do not know where the Geneva Galaxy is located! What do you need? You need your map. A map tells you where to find the Geneva Galaxy. The universe is filled with billions of galaxies. Without your map, you would be lost. You could wander around the universe for thousands of light-years, and you would never find the Geneva Galaxy. The map keeps you on the right course. Now you are heading in the right direction. The Bible is like a map. Without the Bible, we would never find God. We could search for Him for thousands of years and imagine all sorts of things about where He might be, but we would still be lost. But when we read the Bible, we learn about God and how to find Him. The Bible has several other names. Sometimes we call it Scripture. We also call it the Word of God, because God gave it to us so that we can know Him. Every part of the Bible is from God, and every part of it is true. There are no mistakes in God s Word. MEMORY VERSE Your word is a lamp to my feet, a light to my path. - Psalm 119:105 Our memory verse calls God s Word a lamp and a light for the path. This means that God s Word shows us which way to go. We would be lost in darkness unless God had revealed the right way to go. SOLA SCRIPTURA SCRIPTURE ALONE The Bible is our only perfect guide to knowing God.

One man named Simeon was especially looking for the Savior. God had told Simeon that he would live to see the Messiah. Simeon waited every day, but the Messiah did not arrive.

6 BIBLE STORY: SIMEON WAITED FOR THE MESSIAH Luke 2:25-32 In ancient Judea, people were waiting anxiously for the Messiah. They had read the Scripture, and the Scripture told them that God would send a Savior (Messiah) to help them. However, they were not sure when the Messiah would arrive. One man named Simeon was especially looking for the Savior. God had told Simeon that he would live to see the Messiah. Simeon waited every day, but the Messiah did not arrive. One morning, God told Simeon to go to the Temple, so Simeon got up and went. At the Temple, he saw Joseph and Mary with a tiny baby. When Simeon saw the baby, he knew that this child was the Messiah. The baby s name was Jesus. Jesus was not an ordinary person. Jesus was God Himself. He had become man, and He was born to Mary. He had come to save His people from their sins. When Simeon saw the child, he praised God: Lord, now You are letting Your servant depart in peace, according to Your word; for my eyes have seen Your salvation which You have prepared before the face of all peoples, a light to bring revelation to the Gentiles, and the glory of Your people Israel. Simeon and the rest of Israel expected the Messiah because they read the Scriptures. If they had not studied Scripture, they would never have known about God at all. The Bible contains Scripture. It is important to read it so that we may learn about God.

7 DAY 1 YOUR MISSION FOR TODAY

DAY 1 Greetings, Agent Z! This is mission headquarters with an urgent message for you. We have intercepted a coded transmission from the Geneva Galaxy.

Have you decoded the message, Agent Z? Write it here: Excellent work! But now that you have decoded it, what does it mean? Please explain the mysterious message from the Geneva Galaxy: You have discovered the meaning of the secret message! Good work, Agent Z!

LESSON 2: SOLA FIDE Are you going to Planet Zwingli to check out the strange writing, Agent Z? Well, first you must get into your spaceship. But wait!

You could sit out in space forever! You have to be brave, Agent Z! You know that your spaceship is a good, strong ship. So jump aboard, start the engine, and zoom out toward the stars!

Just like Agent Z has to trust the spaceship, we must trust God. If you have faith, then you believe God.

A spaceship may break down and fail its mission, but God never fails us. If we put our trust in Him, we are secure forever.

11 LESSON 2: SOLA FIDE Are you going to Planet Zwingli to check out the strange writing, Agent Z? Well, first you must get into your spaceship. But wait! Are you sure your spaceship is strong enough to carry you all the way to Planet Zwingli? Will you make it safely there? What if you get to the Asteroid Belt, and your spaceship s engine fails? You could sit out in space forever! You have to be brave, Agent Z! You know that your spaceship is a good, strong ship. So jump aboard, start the engine, and zoom out toward the stars! You must trust your ship. If you are too afraid, you will never go anywhere. You will just sit there on earth looking up at the sky, too scared to fly. Faith is trust in God. Just like Agent Z has to trust the spaceship, we must trust God. If you have faith, then you believe God. When God tells you in the Bible that He will save you from your sins if you trust in Christ, then you must believe this. God is always true. A spaceship may break down and fail its mission, but God never fails us. If we put our trust in Him, we are secure forever. MEMORY VERSE But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. Hebrews 11:6 We already have our map (the Bible) which tells us how to know God. But unless we believe the Bible, it will not help us. We must have faith in God and trust His Word. We must believe that He exists and that He will reward us if we seek Him. SOLA FIDE FAITH ALONE The only way to find God is to put our faith in Him.

Jesus never once disobeyed, or told a lie, or hit his little brother. He was perfect. When Jesus was thirty years old, it was time for Him to begin teaching everyone about God. He traveled around Judea preaching to all the people. Jesus called certain men to help Him with His work. These men were called His disciples. The first disciples Jesus called were two fishermen: Simon and Andrew. Jesus was walking by the Sea of Galilee, and He saw them in a boat. They were casting a net into the water to catch fish. Jesus said to the two men, Follow Me, and I will make you become fishers of men. Jesus meant that He would send them to gather people into the Kingdom of God. Simon and Andrew immediately left their nets and their boat and followed Jesus. They believed Jesus. They had faith that Jesus was the Son of God, the Messiah.

13 DAY 2 YOUR MISSION FOR TODAY

15 DAY 2 Good morning, Agent Z. After your brilliant success with yesterday s translation work, we are entrusting you with a new top-secret mission. Below is a message which materialized this morning on the surface of Planet Zwingli. Until this morning, we had believed the planet to be uninhabited. Today, this mysterious message appeared in the sand. The secretive inhabitants may be trying to communicate with us. Please use your Decoder Handbook to discover the meaning of this strange message.
