2 Stressed Out As we search for significance in a messed up world apart from God, we get stress instead

3 Who Can We Trust? The Church has historically helped people define their significance, but it has been compromised.

6 2 TIMOTHY 3:10-17 But you, Timothy, certainly know what I teach, and how I live, and what my purpose in life is. You know my faith, my 11 patience, my love, and my endurance. You know how much persecution and suffering I have endured. You know all about how I was persecuted in Antioch, Iconium, and Lystra but the Lord rescued me from all of it. 12 Yes, and everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution. 13 But evil people and impostors will flourish. They will deceive others and will themselves be deceived. 10 (New Living Translation)

7 2 TIMOTHY 3:10-17 But you must remain faithful to the things you have been taught. You know they are true, for you know you can trust 15 those who taught you. You have been taught the holy Scriptures from childhood, and they have given you the wisdom to receive the salvation that comes by trusting in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and 17 teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work. 14 (New Living Translation)

8 Identifying Good Examples But YOU - In contrast to deceitful people and dangerous times, you look for [vs11-12] What They Teach How They Live What Their Purpose Is Their Faith Their Patience Their Love Their Endurance In Persecution In Suffering

9 Surviving Persecution The Godly will be persecuted [v12] We don t seek it we seek Christ It will look different in different tribal groups The wicked will flourish (for a time) [v13] But YOU - remain faithful [v14] Don t be distracted from faithfulness by the prosperity of the godless God is our rescuer [v11]

10 Having Confidence Good teachers = High Confidence [vs14-15] God inspired All Scriptures [v16] Confidence in the Bible enables it s Purpose make us wise, so we can receive salvation [v15] teach us what is true [v16] reveals what is wrong in us, and corrects it [v16] teaches/prepares/equips us to do EVERY good work [v17]
