We have already received the mercy of God for forgiveness in holy absolution. Now, when we cry out, "Lord, have mercy," there is confidence in our voices because we know that God is indeed merciful. He desires to bring relief to the suffering that is all around us. Our prayer may not always bring an immediate response at least, not the response that we are seeking but even then, we commend ourselves and the whole world to a merciful God. Evildoers not only prosper but they put God to the test and they escape. Then those who feared the LORD spoke with one another. 5 Gradual A selection of psalm verses traditionally sung between the Epistle and Gospel. With the regular use of the Old Testament reading, the Gradual now appears after that reading, before the Epistle. The word Gradual is from the Latin for "step," which refers to the step of the lectern from which the Gradual was traditionally sung or spoken. Two others, who were criminals, were led away to be put to death with him. And Jesus said, Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do. And they cast lots to divide his garments. And the people stood by, watching, but the rulers scoffed at him, saying, He saved others; let him save himself, if he is the Christ of God, his Chosen One! One of the criminals who were hanged railed at him, saying, Are you not the Christ? Save yourself and us! Ask an usher and they would be more than happy to give you one. The Lord s Supper Redeemer celebrates the Lord s Supper on every Sunday of the month, it is also celebrated on the following Monday. With the belief that this sacred meal is a gift of Christ to his church. First Corinthians 11, states: Examine yourselves, and only then eat of the bread and drink of the cup. For all who eat and drink without discerning the body, eat and drink judgment upon themselves. We request that those who commune here: Are a member of an LCMS congregation and have received prior instruction in the Lord's Supper? Realize they are sinful and in need of God s grace. Believe that Jesus Christ is their personal Savior. Believe that in with and under the bread and wine they receive Christ s body and blood for the forgiveness of their sins. Advent On Sunday, November 27 th the Church begins the sacred season of Advent as we prepare for the birth of Christ on Christmas. In addition to our regular weekend worship opportunities, Redeemer will also have three, midweek, Advent worship opportunities. The theme will be based on Martin Luther s famous Christmas hymn, From Heaven Above to Earth I Come. Please join us each weekend for worship and on Wednesday November 30 th, Wednesday December 7 th, and Wednesday December 14 th at 6:00 PM as we prepare for Immanuel, God with Us. Operation Christmas Child Here are the dates for our upcoming shoebox outreach ministry: Sunday Nov. 13 Sunday, Nov. 20 Redeemer collection week; so bring in your packed EVERYONE shoebox gifts, in preparation at REDEEMER for dedication. Sunday, Nov. 20 Dedication Sunday, where the shoebox gifts will be dedicated to the glory of Jesus Christ, and then delivered to the local collection site.
