1 PRAYING TOGETHER 11 November 2018 to 9 March 2019

2 Welcome to Praying Together Welcome to the Praying Together booklet. Our thanks to all those who have had an input into the thinking that has gone into the design and layout. Here s how it works... Sunday entries (left-hand page) highlight certain aspects of church life or a national or global campaign. These are followed by daily prayers from all over the diocese. You ll notice some days have a name next to them. These are the names of people down the centuries who are champions of the faith and who we remember on these days. If you have some extra time, why not do some research into who they are and what they did? The encompasses a rich array of countries (165!) and cultures. This Anglican Diary enables us to feel connected in prayer to Archbishops, Bishops and our fellow Christians all over the globe. Praying Together is a booklet to be used daily. Do continue to feed back to the team who produce it how you want it to look and what you want it to contain. Specific prayer suggestions can be submitted by following this link: Life Events Friends and family still turn to the Church at significant moments sometimes called, cheekily, hatch, match, despatch. The opportunity of these occasions should be taken seriously both for their spiritual importance and their impact on family and community cohesion. The wonder of birth that leads to a request for Christian baptism, the joy of love that leads to marriage vows in the acknowledged presence of God, the hope in grief that is open to the promise of resurrection are all in the gift of the Church. Let us encourage each other in welcoming and praying for all in our parishes who are open to the grace of Lord Jesus Christ at the beginning, middle and the end of their lives on earth. The Rt Revd David Urquhart Bishop of Birmingham

3 11-17 Nov 3 before Advent WED 14 Sunday 11 November Remembrance and hope Mr Ian Crockford, St Michael, Hall Green writes: Prayers are asked to thank God for the continued success of the Place of Welcome at St Michael s on Wed afternoons. THU 15 The Revd Ruth Atkinson, St Michael and All Angels, Bartley Green writes: We give thanks for the money from Awards for All to fund a feasibility study to improve our church hall. Thank you to Naomi from Apec who conducted the study and for listening. Pray for the raising of finance to provide a toilet for the disabled, to make the nursery safe and to engage with our community. It is one hundred years since the guns fell silent at the end of the Great War. Each year on this day we remember those who died for us, our brothers and sisters who gave their lives defending our way of life. It is a day to remember both men and women of the armed forces and those who were civilians. Today we remember ordinary men and women who perished in the wars which raged in the twentieth century, and which have already begun to scar the twenty-first century: a century which began with such hope just eighteen years ago. In remembering them, we should pray that their sacrifice was not in vain. We must pray too for those suffering in conflicts today and for peace in our world. This is a day for remembrance and for hope.
