ORDER OF WORSHIP January 13, 2019 The Baptism of our Lord Baptism of Jesus The baptism of Jesus is one of most ologically profound events in gospel narratives. When Far spoke from heaven saying, This is my Son, hom I love; ith him I am ell pleased (Matt. 3:17), divine sonship of Christ as announced in a vivid and dramatic ay. The event gives us a glimpse of Trinity, ith Far s gift of Spirit Son. Because of significance of this event for establishing Christ s identity, churches have often commemorated Jesus baptism annually on first Sunday after Epiphany. 6 Confession of Sin Confession Confession of sin happens ithin context of relationship, both ith God and each or. We confess ger, in community, before a gracious God ho has given us himself. Confession both acknoledges our need for mercy and celebrates its abundance in Christ. Merciful God, in baptism you grafted us in body of Christ, a sign and seal of forgiveness of sin and neness of life in Spirit. But o often e fail live as forgiven and ne people. We keep destructive habits and hold grudges. We allo our flesh guide our thoughts, and our past hold us hostage. In your loving-kindness have mercy on us and free us from sin.
