Earl Kooperkamp The Nicene Creed BCP 358 We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through

5 him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. Prayers of the People Let us pray for the church and for the world. Grant, Almighty God, that all who confess your Name may be united in your truth, live together in your love, and reveal your glory in the world. Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer. Guide the people of this land, and of all the nations, in the ways of justice and peace; that we may honor one another and serve the common good. Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer. Give us all a reverence for the earth as your own creation, that we may use its resources rightly in the service of others and to your honor and glory. Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer. Bless all whose lives are closely linked with ours, and grant that we may serve Christ in them, and love one another as he loves us. Lord, in your mercy, Hear our prayer. Comfort and heal all those who suffer in body, mind or spirit: give them courage and hope in their troubles and bring them the joy of your salvation. The Concluding Collect Confession and Absolution Let us confess our sins against God and our neighbor. Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen. In addition to traditional consecrated bread and wine, consecrated gluten free hosts and grape juice are available upon request. We are grateful for Christ Church s long-standing presence in Montpelier and we give thanks for each and every person who calls Christ Church their spiritual home! You are what makes this transformational faith community so rich and special! The fall stewardship campaign will launch on Sunday, October 8 th and will close on Sunday, November 19 th with the annual Youth & Families Fall Blessings Luncheon. Did you know? The current church bell that is rung each Sunday was cast in 1850 by the West Troy Bell Foundry in Troy, NY at a cost of $227.37! How costs and the times have changed!! Social Justice Committee Book Discussion: People in our congregation were moved by Paul's sermon on September 17 th, in which he talked about The Book of Joy: Lasting Happiness in a Changing World, by the Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu, two great spiritual masters and moral leaders of our time. We would like to have deeper conversations in our parish about the ideas that this sermon generated. We are planning to have two meetings to discuss this book: Tuesday, October 17 th and Tuesday, November 7 th from 6:30 to 8:00 pm, so please mark your calendars. We will have copies of the book available this Sunday after the 8:00AM and 10:00AM services. Please speak to Marty Roberts for more information on this book study. Earl Kooperkamp from Church of the Good Shepherd, today, October 1, Rev. Paul will be in Stowe today. This is the first swap between the Episcopal Churches in Stowe, 11

12 Montpelier, and Barre. Our next swap will be on February 4, 2018 when Rev. Rick Swanson will be at Christ Church. Blessing of the Animals: This year we will again offer a blessing for our beloved animals at the 10:00AM service on Sunday, October 8, You are welcome to bring your well-behaved pets for this special service and blessing that honors St. Francis tradition of loving and caring for all of God s creatures. Rev. Auburn Watersong will be with us for this festive celebration! Youth & Family News and Events BOB Drive (Bag of Basics) On October 15 th : Immediately following the 10:00 AM Service, we will walk to Rite Aid Pharmacy to help our children select basic (unscented if possible) necessities for this year s drive. The second walk is scheduled for Sunday, October 29th. Last year, we helped collect thousands of donated items that were then distributed to local nonprofit agencies. Let s do it again! The official congregation rollout will be Sunday, October 22rd, during Youth in Church Sunday! We will be collecting items until Sunday, November 19th. Pipes and Pizza: On October 22 nd : Immediately following the 10:00 AM service, Lynnette Combs, our Organist, and Choirmaster will lead a Get to know the Organ Event. 13 Please Take a Solider Home: Please take a wooden solider home with you and put our hero somewhere will you will remember to pray for our military service members past, present, and fallen brave soldiers and their families. Cards of Gratitude and Thanksgiving: Over the next month, Youth and Family will be sponsoring several events to honor our brave soldiers, past and present. Youth and family will be setting up a card writing campaign, and we are asking everyone to please help us. Blank cards and art supplies will be made available in the parish hall over the next month. We want your Leftover Halloween Candy For Operation Gratitude : On Sunday, November 5 th, please bring in your leftover candy along with some toothbrushes and put them to a good cause! Youth and Family Ministry will box these items up along with your cards from Operation Gratitude, which will then get these items to our deployed troops and first responders throughout the world. For more information, please visit Cookies for Veterans: Youth and Family will be working with, The Veteran s Place in Northfield VT. This vital agency provides transitional housing and programs for homeless veterans in Vermont. They do everything they can to stretch their funds, to provide housing, medical services, and food but needless to say sweets don t often make the list. Over the next month, Youth and Family will collect your awesome homemade goods and make sure they get to our heroes in need. We will also be sending over our collected BOB items and Cards.
