3 RECAP Exploring the A. The ESSENCE of Wisdom lies in the word SKILL The ability to do a job. 1. The Hebrew term was used of Skillful workers who were known to be: - Wise /Experience /Skilled in their craft - This type of skill is usually focused on one or two areas and acquired by hard work. B. Scripture Meaning (Working Definition) When the Scriptures speak of Wisdom it is the scriptures way of teaching us how to develop GODLY LIFE SKILLS FOR LIVING LIFE SUCCESFULLY.

4 RECAP A. The Importance of Wisdom It helps the believer DEVELOP GODLY LIFE SKILLS to walk in LIBERTY WHICH INCLUDE: 1. Insight (Bina) The ability to perceive clearly; understanding 2. Counsel ( esa) advice that usually involves planning, strategy, or purpose 3. Discernment (ta am) acute judgment, good sense, tact- sensible answers Prudence(phronesis)- it implies provision against possible contingencies. In other words, it takes care, caution or good judgment in looking ahead

6 A.What is the basic element to Wisdom? The Fear of the Lord Job 28:28(GW) The fear of the Lord is wisdom!

7 2 Words that Define Fear 1.Maraᵓ - which indicates TERROR 2.Yārēʾ REVERENCE (Holy)

8 This Phrase means WE are to have a HOLY REVERENCE for God. This would entail the following fundamentals of Reverence: 1. RESPECT: We offer RESPECT for who He is 2. RECOGNITION: We offer RECOGNITION for what He s done 3. SUBMISSION: We SUBMIT our life to His rule and authority 4. SUBJECTION : We SUBJECT ourselves to His will 5. OBEDIENCE: We OBEY the Word of the Lord

9 Defining the Tools that assist in our Development Wisdom: Wisdom is a divine gift from God that enhances our ability to live out our daily life skillfully Only the LORD gives wisdom Prov 2:6a If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. James 1:5 (NKJV)

10 1. Knowledge: Knowledge is the mental accumulation and acquisition of facts/ information(details) that makes us aware and familiar with any particular subject issue problem person life in general

11 a.yada - to know: Usually describes the process whereby one gains knowledge Observing perception, impression, behaviors Thinking -reflecting, opinion, rumors Experience - emotions, pain, love, joy Investigating proving, seeking, confirming Senses touch, taste, seeing, hearing Relationship advice, fatherly, motherly

12 Understanding The ability to see beyond the given details of (a)ny particular situation..and MAKE AN APPROPRIATE OR GODLY ASSESSMENT and come to the correct decision/choice. And to man He said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, And to depart from evil is understanding. Job 28:28

13 A. How do we Acquire Godly Knowledge and Understanding? 1. We must seek for it Cry out for insight, and ask for understanding. Search for them as you would for silver; seek them like hidden treasures. Pr 2:3 4 The mind of a person who has understanding acquires knowledge. The ears of wise people seek knowledge Pr 18: God must give it The LORD gives wisdom. From his mouth come knowledge and understanding Pr 2:6.

14 1. (Hb) 2 Words for Wisdom a. Hokma(hōk ma): focuses on living skillfully b. Sahkal (saw-kal): focuses on acing prudently(wisely) 1. Prudent gives us two perspectives a. Positive The process of thinking through. Have insight, caution or good judgment in looking ahead, providing for the future. Insight. Success. a. Negative Give attention to. Involves one in what he Pays attention in regards to one s own interest (earthly wisdom envious, self seeking)

15 A.Wisdom will save you from the way of evil, from the person who speaks deceitful things, from those who abandon the paths of righteousness to walk the ways of darkness, from those who enjoy doing evil, from those who find joy in the deviousness of evil. from an adulterous woman/man, from a loose woman/wayward men with their smooth talk who leaves their spouse and forgets their marriage vows to God.
