3 WELCOME TO VINTAGE CHURCH WE ARE A GROWING, VIBRANT, GOSPEL-CENTERED & SPIRIT-FILLED SITUATED IN THE VERY HEART OF LOS ANGELES WITH A SIMPLE VISION: CHURCH JOINING GOD IN THE RENEWAL OF ALL THINGS. Ger and Lizzie Jones, who felt called by God to plant a church in Los Angeles, launched Vintage four and a half years ago. Their passion is to see a thriving community, committed to the gospel of the kingdom and the fullness of the ministry of the Spirit, making passionate disciples of Christ and reaching out to see lives transformed and Los Angeles renewed in Christ. Vintage, closely linked with Holy Trinity Brompton, England (HTB), has seen significant growth since its launch, with over 700 people coming to worship over four services across two locations. Los Angeles is a hugely exciting and important city in which to live. It s the second largest city in the United States, is multi-cultural, multi-faceted, a sprawling metropolis of nearly 13 million people, filled with many different faiths and nation- alities. It is the media and entertainment capital of the world, making it a formative influence on global culture and society. It boasts a can-do, open and creative approach to life. It s also a beautiful and temperate place to live (70 and sunny most days)! Vintage Church is in an exciting season, and we firmly believe the best is yet to come. We are looking for an experienced pastor who can come alongside our Senior Pastor and help lead our Vintage family into the next step of our journey. What we have seen so far is incredibly exciting: lives transformed, a growing church community committed to Word and Spirit, people healed and communities being renewed. We are looking for men and women called to help lead our church into the fullness of what God is calling us to do. WE ARE LOOKING FOR AN EXPERIENCED PASTOR

4 WHO do we need? We are looking for a dynamic and experienced associate pastor who is passionate about making Jesus known, building community and developing others in their own walk with him. He or she must have strong leadership skills, be able to inspire the church community through preaching, teaching and discipleship, discern God s vision with us and oversee, develop and lead core Vintage ministries. We seek someone with energy, who with humility and dependence on the Holy Spirit, is able to inspire through both teaching and leading by example. We love a good pastoral heart. WE ARE SEEKING A SERVANT LEADER WHO: Is passionate for Jesus and his church Has a pastoral heart, is emotionally intelligent, personable and full of fun, and is committed to building community among our congregation Is a gifted speaker and able to preach the Word of God faithfully Is dependent on prayer and sensitive to the Holy Spirit s leading Is passionate about equipping God s people Is able to lead, motivate, develop, encourage and empower our staff team and our key volunteers Walks closely with God, models authentic bible-based Christian living, and hungers for more of His Spirit Can cast vision and draw people into it Is able to lead and inspire a large and diverse church community Engages creatively with contemporary culture and concerns Represents and embodies the core theological values of Vintage, including Gospel-centered, Word and Spirit, and missional

5 KEY ROLES INCLUDE: Ability to develop and lead a future Vintage Church campus or site Leadership and development of various Vintage core ministries Regular teaching and preaching Providing encouragement and leadership to teams, managing key staff and volunteer leaders directly and strengthening team relationships Encouraging and giving space for the freedom for the Holy Spirit to minister and impact people at our services and in all areas of the life of the church Has a heart and ability to care for the congregation through counseling, visitation, and one-on-one discipleship

7 OUR CURRENT PRIORITIES To solidify our community after four years of rapid growth through building a solid infrastructure and foundation in all ministries and preparing them for the next season. To grow our social transformation mission across the city and continue to emphasize Alpha as the core focus of our evangelism. To bring our community into a rich experience of and conviction in our core values of Word and Spirit communities on mission. To care for and grow communities across the city that can ultimately become local Vintage communities as part of our desire for one church, many communities. To develop and grow a discipleship and pastoral training center in connection with St Mellitus and St Paul s Theological Center in the UK, so that we can provide theological and spiritual formation for those in the marketplace and provide our own ordination track for future pastors.

(sometimes called our values ) GOSPEL OF THE KINGDOM: We are rooted in and passionate about the unchanging and transformational gospel of grace in Jesus Christ and the good news of the in-breaking kingdom of God. BIBLICAL DISCIPLESHIP: As a community we are shaped by the regular teaching, preaching and study of the Bible. We are passionate about rich theology that leads to a vibrant relationship with Christ and a life of passionate worship. We value expository preaching that lets the text speak to us and a culture that is searching, cynical and questioning. SPIRIT-EMPOWERED: We hunger for the ongoing in-filling, gifts and empowerment of the Holy Spirit in our lives so that we can live into all the new covenant benefits we have in Christ by the Spirit and be empowered for mission in the world. ENCOUNTERING WORSHIP: We deeply value worship that is not performance or just singing songs, but a rich encounter with God that is God-focused, Spirit-led and hungry for his presence. PRAYER MINISTRY: We love to pray for people in the power of the Spirit. We keep it simple with no manipulation or hype, and focus on what God wants to do. ALPHA: We have a passion to share the amazing news of Jesus with those who don t know him. Alpha is our main focus for evangelism, and is at the heart of our church community and calendar. COMMUNITY-DRIVEN: For us, church is our family. Most people in this city can experience loneliness and find themselves a long way from their home. We, therefore, lean in to be a diverse, fun, engaged and caring community that is growing together, laughing a lot together, learning from each other and on mission together in the city. LEADERSHIP: We are committed to raising up a generation of Word and Spirit leaders not only in the church but also in the marketplace. We are passionate that men and women can lead at all levels of church ministry.

9 FOR US, CHURCH IS OUR FAMILY. MOST PEOPLE IN THIS CITY CAN EXPERIENCE LONELINESS AND FIND THEMSELVES A LONG WAY FROM THEIR HOME. WE, THEREFORE, LEAN IN TO BE A DIVERSE, FUN, ENGAGED AND CARING COMMUNITY THAT IS GROWING TOGETHER, LAUGHING A LOT TOGETHER, LEARNING FROM EACH OTHER AND ON MISSION TOGETHER IN THE CITY.

10 WHAt we love to do WORSHIP Worship plays a central role in the life of Vintage, and we are led by our Worship Pastor, Brenton Brown, who seeks to develop and lead our worship teams and raise up new Word and Spirit worship leaders. PRAYER We are dependent upon God for everything, and therefore prioritize prayer, our All Church Prayer Meetings and our Encounter Nights where we set aside an evening for extended worship, prayer ministry and spiritual gifts. ALPHA We run Alpha three times a year, and coordinate our life together around it. We have been called to reach the lost, and we know of no better tool to keep our church outward looking and engaged in love and compassion for our friends and neighbors who don t know Christ. HUBS Hubs are small groups of people that meet throughout Los Angeles to build lasting friendships and grow spiritually. Our Hubs vary in activity, ranging from Bible study to prayer and worship, from social justice involvement to social activities.

11 SOCIAL TRANSFORMATION We love to bring Christ s love and mercy to our city and the world through acts of mercy, justice, and social transformation. Each year we partner with and support local organizations to help meet some of the greatest needs of Los Angeles. Internationally, we take yearly mission trips to Mexico and Haiti and support global missionaries in Thailand and Vietnam. CHILDREN AND FAMILIES Children are a priority in our church. They are not the church of tomorrow but the church of today! We therefore ensure that our children s ministry reflects our Word and Spirit DNA, and is a vibrant and safe place for our children to know and experience Christ. We run regular Marriage and Parenting Courses (also from HTB) that are extremely well attended by people both in and outside the church.

12 CARING We have a dedicated Pastoral Care team that offers one-on-one care and counseling and where appropriate, refers people to expert caregivers that operate beyond our walls. We also have a thriving Prayer Ministry Team that regularly prays for people in services at Vintage. LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT We are in the early stages of developing the Vintage School of Ministry in conjunction with St. Paul s Theological Center (Holy Trinity Brompton s theological training center). This will enable us to train our own pastors, church planters and worship leaders, and also equip our congregation to be anointed and mature marketplace ministers. FOCUS Every year we go away on a church family retreat where we are renewed and refreshed in God. We encourage the whole church to come, and have had significant times where we focus on God, his presence amongst us and growing in what his will is for us as a community. We love to bring in friends of Vintage to speak and minister to us, such as Mike Pilavachi and Pete Greig.

13 THE TEAM: PASTORS GER & LIZZIE JONES Senior Pastor Ger, who is from England, and Lizzie, from Australia, are the founding pastors of Vintage Church. Ger was born in 1972 into a dynamic ministry context. His father, Bryn Jones, was one of the founding leaders of the UK charismatic house church movement, and Ger experienced God moving profoundly in his own life and in the church throughout his childhood and teenage years. He was a leader in the church at a young age, but felt called into marketplace ministry and, after studying law at Bristol University, Ger practiced law in London for several years. It was in London that Ger attended and was significantly shaped by the community and ministry at Holy Trinity Brompton. It was also where he met Lizzie, who was on staff at HTB working with Alpha. In 2000 Ger and Lizzie married and moved to Geneva, Switzerland where Ger pursued a career in brand management with Procter & Gamble. In 2004, God began to stir Ger s heart towards laying down his career for full time ministry, and they moved to Vancouver so that Ger could complete an M.Div at Regent College. A few years later, while pastoring an Anglican church in Raleigh, NC, Ger began to discern God s call to plant a church in Los Angeles. This call was realized in January 2011 when the Jones family moved to Santa Monica and began the process of planting Vintage Church with just three other people! Ger describes himself as a husband, father & pastor who loves Jesus, Arsenal FC, and curry! Lizzie loves people, loves truth, and genuinely loves helping people find their place at Vintage and seeing them thrive in all they can be. They live near Santa Monica with their three children: Amy, Naomi & Sam. BRENTON BROWN Worship Pastor Brenton hails from Cape Town, South Africa by the way of Oxford, England, where he earned an M.A. in philosophy and a diploma in theology. Since his early days as a worship leader and pastor in the UK Vineyard Church, Brenton has written and recorded numerous award-winning worship songs (Everlasting God, All Who Are Thirsty) and has toured the world over as a worship leader and keynote speaker. Brenton has a passion for the local church and describes himself as a worship leader, songwriter dude fueled by the fire of heaven s love for me. Brenton, his wife Jude and their two little girls, Bella & Lulu, live in Malibu. STAFF

14 VOLUNTEERS We love our volunteers! Whether they re serving and loving on our children in V-Kids, working behind the scenes to set up or tear down our facilities, or warmly welcoming you to our Sunday services, our volunteers make doing what we do possible. FINANCES Vintage s financial year runs from January to December. The 2015 budget is just over $1.7M and we are on track to finish the year on budget. We endeavor to be good stewards of all resources and work within carefully set budgets. NETWORKS Vintage Church is closely linked with Holy Trinity Brompton in London, and is under the oversight of Bishop Todd Hunter of the Anglican Church of North America. We have strong relationships with a wide range of churches and networks both locally and further afield, including The Garden (Long Beach), Southlands (Orange County), Bethel, New Wine and the Vineyard.

16 OUR LOCATIONS SANTA MONICA: We hold three Sunday services in our church building in Santa Monica, called Trinity House. We were greatly blessed with this historic building in 2014 when Trinity Baptist Church voted to merge with us. This was such a radically generous and kingdom-minded decision, and we are now blessed with a 600-seat sanctuary, fellowship hall, discipleship and administrative wing, children s ministry center and further space for future ministries such as our School of Ministry and Worship Academy. WEST LA: We have one Sunday service at University High School which is focused on creating authentic community through a smaller and more intimate venue than Trinity House. The worship space is also more conducive to open and expressive worship. We have lunch together every Sunday after the service. FUTURE LOCATIONS: Our goal is to open further Vintage locations across the city so that we are one church, many communities. Los Angeles is a patchwork of over 140 different neighborhoods, and without an easy transportation network, it is important to have a gospel presence within these communities. We are therefore raising up leaders to lead future communities across the city.

18 our history In 2009, Ger and Lizzie were approached by Bishop Todd Hunter to consider planting a church in Los Angeles that would be closely linked with the vision and values of their spiritual home at Holy Trinity Brompton, London. Bishop Todd had been approached by a couple of people in Los Angeles who longed for such a church. There was a real need. At the time, Ger and Lizzie were pastoring an Anglican church in Raleigh, North Carolina, and although they were praying about their next step, they had no particular desire to move to LA! When they arrived in LA in January 2011, there were just a handful of people wanting to be part of the new church. It was a small start, but the presence and call of God was profound. Since the launch at Easter 2011 with 20 people we have seen God s power and grace move significantly and the church is now thriving, stable and in its own building, and has over 700 people in weekly worship over four services in two different locations. Even though God has done so much so quickly, we really believe that this is only the beginning and the best is yet to come! The Ger went to visit for the weekend, and almost immediately felt God vision is important and exciting - to see a multiplying Word and give him a heart for the city. Lizzie felt it too, and they started the Spirit church in Los Angeles, raising up pastors, worship leaders year long process of raising funds and transitioning from Raleigh and marketplace leaders to extend the gospel across the city to LA. and the world!
