Beaman Circle, #104 Cordova, TN (901) (Office) COURSE DESCRIPTION: A Study of the Life of the Apostle Paul: The Man and His Methods, including the missionary mandate of the local church according to Paul. Attention will be given to Paul's mission and theology, including Paul's understanding of the gospel and the practical application of both evangelism and church planting. COURSE OBJECTIVES: Understand biblical life principles of godly character Understand practically biblical preaching and teaching Learn practical steps in discipleship and how to start churches Learn a specific evangelism and church planting strategy Learn specific and practical ways and steps in growing a local church REQUIRED TEXTBOOKS; Roland Allen, Missionary Methods St. Paul s or Ours? Eerdmans, 1962 (173 pages) Polhill, John. Paul and His Letters. Nashville: Broadman & Holman,1999. (400 pages)

2 2 Plummer, Robert and Mark Terry. Paul s Missionary Methods in His Time and Ours. IVP: (250 pages) COURSE REQUIREMENTS: 1. Students will read each textbook and submit and interaction form on each book. The first interaction form (Polhill) is due March 4, the second interaction form (Allen) on April 4, and the third interaction form (Plummer and Terry) on May 4 (20% of final grade). 2. Students will have one exam, the final exam. Seniors are exempt from the final. A study guide will be provided. (40% of final grade) 3. Each student will write a 15-page paper on a topic related to Paul s theology. The paper must have a minimum of seven sources. It must have 20 footnotes. The paper must conform to the seminary style guide (Turabian format). (20% of grade) Paper is due on the Thursday before the final exam. 4. Class Presentation. Each student will teach one class session. The presentation will feature the highlights of the student s research paper. Presentations will last 35 minutes and should include Power Points. (20% of grade) CLASS ATTENDANCE: Students have a maximum of nine absences during the course term. Three tardy marks are equal to one absence. LATE WORK: Work turned in late will incur a deduction of 5% per day for each day that the assignment is late. The student is responsible to get late papers to his or her instructor. No papers accepted after the last day of class.

3 3 CLASS CONDUCT: 1. All talking should stop when the bell rings. Students should be attentive to the prayer requests of other class members. 2. No one is to leave the classroom until the class ends unless it is an emergency. 3. Computers, cell phones, and other electronic devices may only be used for taking notes or other class related activities. Surfing the internet, texting, tweeting, etc. are not permitted. Students who abuse this policy will not be allowed to bring such devices to class. 4. Class is not dismissed until the professor dismisses the class (even after the bell rings). 5. Students should exhibit a Christ-like attitude and demeanor at all times. After a warning, points will be deducted from the student s grade for violation of any of the above rules. MEETINGS WITH THE PROFESSOR: Usually the professor is available to meet with students immediately after class. For appointments at other times, please see the professor or his assistant in the secretarial office.

4 4 GRADING SCALE: Grade point averages are determined on a 12-point grading system. The grade point value of each letter grade is: A quality points per semester hour A quality points per semester hour B quality points per semester hour B quality points per semester hour B quality points per semester hour C quality points per semester hour C quality points per semester hour C quality points per semester hour D quality points per semester hour D quality points per semester hour D quality points per semester hour F 69 and below 0.0 quality points per semester hour The 12-point grading scale allows a student to graduate possibly with a perfect 4.0 average. A grade point average of 2.0, however, will constitute the lowest passing average to graduate. Anything below 2.0 will be the basis for probation/suspension purposes.
