Service of Word and Sacrament Bishop McKinley Young Senior Bishop Presiding Bishop, 3 rd Episcopal District Worship Leader The Prelude The Richard Allen Hymn Bishop Frederick H. Talbot Retired 1. Ministers who are called to preaching All teachers and exhorters too, Awake! behold your harvest wasting Arise! there is no rest for you. 4. We read of wars and great commotions, Before the great and dreadful day; O sinners, shun your sinful courses, And trifle not your time away. 2. To think upon that strict commandment That God has on His teachers laid, The sinners blood who die unwarned Shall fall upon their shepherd s head. 3. But, O! dear people let s be doing Behold the nations in distress; The Lord of hosts forbid their ruin Before the day of grace is past. 5. But sinners dear, there s more that s dreadful; You must before your God appear, To give account of your transactions, And how you spent your time when here. The Proclamation The earth is the Lord s, and everything in it. The world and all its people belong to him. For he laid the earth s foundation on the seas and built it on the ocean depths. Psalm 24:1-2 (NLT) Bishop Carolyn Tyler Guidry Retired The Processional All Hail The Power of Jesus Name (Hymn #5) 1. All hail the power of Jesus' name! Let angels prostrate fall, Let angels prostrate fall, Bring forth the royal diadem, And crown Him, crown Him, crown Him, crown Him, And crown Him Lord of all. 2. Ye chosen seed of Israel's race, Ye ransomed from the fall, Ye ransomed from the fall, Hail Him who saves you by His grace, And crown Him, crown Him, crown Him, crown Him, And crown Him Lord of all.

3. Sinners, whose love can ne'er forget The wormwood and the gall, The wormwood and the gall, Go spread your trophies at His feet, And crown Him, crown Him, crown Him, crown Him, And crown Him Lord of all. 4. Let every kindred, every tribe On this terrestrial ball, On this terrestrial ball, To Him all majesty ascribe, And crown Him, crown Him, crown Him, crown Him, And crown Him Lord of all. 5. O that with yonder sacred throng We at His feet may fall, We at His feet may fall! We'll join the everlasting song, And crown Him, crown Him, crown Him, crown Him, And crown Him Lord of all. The Doxology Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; Praise Him all creatures here below; Praise Him above, ye heavenly host, Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen. The Call to Worship Bishop Reginald T. Jackson President, Council of Bishops Presiding Bishop, 6 th Episcopal District All: I was glad when they said unto me, let us go into the house of the Lord, our feet shall stand within Thy gates, O Jerusalem. For a day in Thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than to dwell in the tents of wickedness. Because of the house of the Lord, our God, I will seek Thy good. Those that be planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God. Blessed are they that dwell in Thy house, Lord, I have loved Thy habitation, the place where Thy honor dwelleth. For the Lord is in His Holy Temple; let all the earth keep silence before Him. Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Thy sight, O Lord, my Strength and my Redeemer. O sing unto the Lord a new song, for He has done marvelous things. Make a joyful noise unto the Lord all the earth sing praises.

The Opening Hymn Bishop Vashti Murphy McKenzie Presiding Bishop, 10 th Episcopal District God of Grace and God of Glory (Hymn No. 62) 1. God of grace and God of glory, On Thy people pour Thy power; Crown Thine ancient Church s story; Bring her bud to glorious flower. Grant us wisdom, grant us courage, For the facing of this hour, For the facing of this hour. 2. Lo! the hosts of evil round us Scorn Thy Christ, assail His ways. Fears and doubts too long have bound us; Free our hearts to work and praise. Grant us wisdom, grant us courage, For the living of these days, For the living of these days. 3. Cure Thy children s warring madness, Bend our pride to Thy control; Shame our wanton, selfish gladness, Rich in things and poor in soul. Grant us wisdom, grant us courage, Lest we miss Thy kingdom s goal, Lest we miss Thy kingdom s goal. 4. Set our feet on lofty places; Gird our lives that they may be Armored with all Christ-like graces In the fight to set men free. Grant us wisdom, grant us courage, That we fail not man nor Thee, That we fail not man nor Thee. 5. Save us from weak resignation To the evils we deplore; Let the search for Thy salvation Be our glory evermore. Grant us wisdom, grant us courage, Serving Thee whom we adore, Serving Thee whom we adore. The Invocation The Prayer Response Bishop Adam J. Richardson Presiding Bishop, 11 th Episcopal District Bishop Wilfred J. Messiah Presiding Bishop, 17 th Episcopal District Ndikhokele, O Jehovah (Hymn #65) (Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah) Ndikhokele, O Jehova, Ndingumhambi Nkosi yam. Unamandla andinawo Onobutha thaka ndim. Refrain Omsindisi, Omsindisi Nguweoli khaka lam.

The First Collect Bishop Paul J. M. Kawimbe Presiding Bishop, 19 th Episcopal District Almighty God, our heavenly father, who of Your great mercy has promised forgiveness of sins to all them that with hearty repentance and true faith turn unto You, have mercy upon us; pardon and deliver us from all our sins; confirm and strengthen us in all goodness; and bring us to everlasting life through Jesus Christ, our Lord, Amen. The Second Collect Bishop David R. Daniels Presiding Bishop, 15 th Episcopal District Almighty God, unto whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hid, cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of Your Holy Spirit that we may perfectly love You, and worthily magnify Your holy name, through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen. The Prayer of Adoration Bishop James L. Davis Presiding Bishop, 2 nd Episcopal District It is very meet, right, and our bounden duty that we shall at all times, and in all places give thanks unto You, O Lord, Holy Father, Almighty, Everlasting God. Therefore, with angels and archangels, and with all the company of heaven, we laud and magnify Your Holy Name, evermore praising You and saying, Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God of hosts; heaven and earth are full of Your glory. Glory be to You, O Lord, most high. Amen. The Prayer of Humiliation Bishop E. Earl McCloud Presiding Bishop, 14 th Episcopal District We do not presume to come to this Your table, O merciful Lord, trusting in our own righteousness, but in Your manifold and great mercies. We are not worthy so much as to gather crumbs under Your table. But You are the same Lord whose property is always to have mercy. Grant us, therefore, Gracious Lord, so to eat the flesh of Your dear Son Jesus Christ, and to drink His blood that our sinful souls and bodies may be made clean by His death and washed through His blood, and that we may evermore dwell in Him and He in us. Amen. The Ministry of Music The Choir The Scripture Lessons The Old Testament Isaiah 1:17-20 (NLT) Bishop Gregory G.M. Ingram Presiding Bishop, 1 st Episcopal District 17 Learn to do good. Seek justice. Help the oppressed. Defend the cause of orphans. Fight for the rights of widows. 18 Come now, let s settle this, says the LORD. Though your sins are like scarlet, I will make them as white as snow. Though they are red like crimson, I will make them as white as wool. 19 If you will only obey me, you will have plenty to eat. 20 But if you turn away and refuse to listen, you will be devoured by the sword of your enemies. I, the LORD, have spoken!

The Psalter Bishop John F. White Presiding Bishop, 4 th Episcopal District Give Judgment for Me, O God (Hymn #682) Give judgment for me, O God, and defend my cause against an ungodly people; deliver me from the deceitful and the wicked. For You are the God of my strength; why have You put me from You? and why do I go so heavily while the enemy oppresses me? Send out Your light and Your truth, that they may lead me, and bring me to Your holy hill and to Your dwelling; That I may go to the altar of God, to the God of my joy and gladness; and on the harp I will give thanks to You, O God, my God. Why are you so full of heaviness, O my soul? and why are you so disquieted within me? Put your trust in God; for I will give thanks to Him, who is the help of my countenance and my God. The New Testament Luke 18:1-8 (NLT) Bishop Julius H. McAllister, Sr. Presiding Bishop, 8 th Episcopal District 1 One day Jesus told his disciples a story to show that they should always pray and never give up. 2 There was a judge in a certain city, he said, who neither feared God nor cared about people. 3 A widow of that city came to him repeatedly, saying, Give me justice in this dispute with my enemy. 4 The judge ignored her for a while, but finally he said to himself, I don t fear God or care about people, 5 but this woman is driving me crazy. I m going to see that she gets justice, because she is wearing me out with her constant requests! 6 Then the Lord said, Learn a lesson from this unjust judge. 7 Even he rendered a just decision in the end. So don t you think God will surely give justice to his chosen people who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? 8 I tell you, he will grant justice to them quickly! But when the Son of Man returns, how many will he find on the earth who have faith? Prelude to the Decalogue Bishop Jeffrey N. Leath Presiding Bishop, 13 th Episcopal District From all that dwell below the skies, Let thy Creator s praise arise; Let thy Redeemer s name be sung, Through every land by every tongue.

The Decalogue (An Affirmation of God s Law) Let us express our commitment to keep God s law. God of our salvation, only You are God. We will make no idols. We will not invoke with malice your name, O God. We will remember the Sabbath Day and keep it holy. We will honor our father and our mother. We will not commit murder. We will not commit adultery. We will not steal. We will not be a false witness. We will not covet anything that belongs to our neighbor. Jesus said: You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. Jesus also challenged us to live justly with a second commandment which is like the first: We shall love our neighbor as ourselves! On these two commandments depend all the law and the prophets. (The Anvil, 2018) The Gloria Patri Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, World without end. Amen. Amen. The Ministry of Music The Offering for Missions The Choir Bishop Michael L. Mitchell Presiding Bishop, 12 th Episcopal District The Choral Response We Give Thee but Thine Own We give thee but thine own, whate'er the gift may be; all that we have is thine alone, a trust, O Lord, from thee. The Presentation of the Preacher The Ministry of Music The Sermon The Invitation to Christian Discipleship Bishop John R. Bryant Senior Bishop, Retired The Choir Bishop Samuel L. Green, Sr. Presiding Bishop, 7 th Episcopal District Bishop Harry L. Seawright Presiding Bishop, 9 th Episcopal District

The Affirmation of Faith Bishop E. Anne Henning-Byfield Presiding Bishop, 16 th Episcopal District I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord: Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried. The third day he arose from the dead; He ascended into heaven and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty, from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Church Universal, the communion of the saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and life everlasting. Amen. The Offering Bishop Clement W. Fugh President, Council of Bishops Commission Chair, Statistics and Finances Presiding Bishop, 5 th Episcopal District The Offertory Response All Things Come of Thee (Hymn #644) All things come of Thee, O Lord; and of Thine own have we given Thee. Amen. The Announcements Bishop Ronnie E. Brailsford, Sr. Secretary, Council of Bishops Presiding Bishop, 20 th Episcopal District The Communion Hymn Bishop Ronnie E. Brailsford, Sr. Presiding Bishop, 20 th Episcopal District Let Us Break Bread Together (Hymn #530) 1. Let us break bread together on our knees; Let us break bread together on our knees. Refrain When I fall on my knees, With my face to the rising sun, O Lord, have mercy on me. 2. Let us drink wine together on our knees; Let us drink wine together on our knees. 3. Let us praise God together on our knees; Let us praise God together on our knees. The Solicitation Bishop Stafford J. N Wicker Presiding Bishop, 18 th Episcopal District You that do truly and earnestly repent of your sins, and are in love and charity with your neighbor, and intend to lead a new life, following the commandments of God, and walking from henceforth in his holy ways, draw near with faith and take this holy sacrament to your comfort, and make your humble confession to Almighty God, meekly bowing and kneeling (as able).

The General Confession Bishop Frank Madison Reid, III Ecumenical & Urban Affairs Almighty God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Maker of all things, Judge of all people, we acknowledge and bewail our manifold sins and wickedness which we from time to time most grievously have committed by thought, word and deed against Your divine Majesty, provoking most justly Your wrath and indignation against us. We do earnestly repent and are heartily sorry for these our misdoings; the remembrance of them is grievous unto us. Have mercy upon us, have mercy upon us, most merciful Father for Your son, our Lord Jesus Christ s sake; forgive us all that is past, and grant that we may ever hereafter serve and please You in newness of life, to the honor and glory of Your name, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen The Prayer of Consecration Bishop McKinley Young Senior Bishop Presiding Bishop, 3 rd Episcopal District Almighty God, our Heavenly Father, who of Your tender mercy did give Your only Son, Jesus Christ, to suffer death on the cross for our redemption, who made thereby His oblation of Himself, once offered, a full perfect and sufficient sacrifice, oblation, and satisfaction for the sins of the whole world; and did institute and in His holy gospel command us to continue a perpetual memory of that His precious death until His coming again; hear us, O merciful father, we most humbly beseech You, and grant that we receiving these Your creatures of bread and wine, according to Your son, our Savior Jesus Christ s holy institution, in remembrance of His death and passion may be partakers of His most blessed body and blood; who in the same night that He was betrayed took bread, and when He had given thanks, He broke it, and gave it to His disciples saying, Take, eat, this is my body which is broken for you. This do in remembrance of Me. Likewise after supper He took the cup, and when He had given thanks He gave it to them saying, Drink all of it, for this is my blood of the New Testament, which is shed for you and for many for the remission of sins; do this, as often as you shall drink it, in remembrance of me. Amen. The Lord s Prayer Hymn #605 Bishop Henry Allen Belin, Jr. Retired Let the words of my mouth, Let the words of my mouth And the meditations of my heart be acceptable in thy sight; Wilt thou teach me how to serve thee, Wilt thou teach me how to pray? Our Father who are in heaven hallowed be thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.

The Prayer of Thanksgiving Bishop Robert V. Webster Retired O Lord, our Heavenly Father, we your humble servants, desire your fatherly goodness mercifully to accept this our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving; most humbly beseeching You to grant that by the merits and death of Your Son, Jesus Christ, and through faith in His blood, we and your whole church may obtain remission of our sins and all other benefits of His passion. And here we offer and present unto you, O Lord, ourselves, our souls and bodies, to be a reasonable, holy, and living sacrifice unto you; humbly beseeching you that all we who are partakers of his holy communion may be filled with your grace and heavenly benediction. And although we be unworthy, through our manifold sins, to offer unto you any sacrifice, yet we beseech you to accept this our bounden duty and service; not weighing our merits, but pardoning our offenses, through Christ our Lord; by whom and with whom in the unity of the Holy Spirit all honor and glory be unto you, O Father, Almighty, world without end. Amen. The Song of Fellowship There is Power in the Blood Bishop Philip R. Cousin, Sr. Retired 1. Would you be free from the burden of sin? There s pow r in the blood, pow r in the blood; Would you o er evil a victory win? There s wonderful pow r in the blood. Refrain There is pow r, pow r, wonder-working pow r In the blood of the Lamb; There is pow r, pow r, wonder-working pow r In the precious blood of the Lamb. 2. Would you be free from your passion and pride? There s pow r in the blood, pow r in the blood; Come for a cleansing to Calvary s tide; There s wonderful pow r in the blood. 3. Would you be whiter, much whiter than snow? There s pow r in the blood, pow r in the blood; Sin-stains are lost in its life-giving flow; There s wonderful pow r in the blood. 4. Would you do service for Jesus your King? There s pow r in the blood, pow r in the blood; Would you live daily His praises to sing? There s wonderful pow r in the blood.
