Concerning the times and the seasons, brothers and sisters, you do not need to have anything written to you. For you yourselves know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. When they say, There is peace and security, then sudden destruction will come upon them, as labor pains come upon a pregnant woman, and there will be no escape! But you, beloved, are not in darkness, for that day to surprise you like a thief; for you are all children of light and children of the day; we are not of the night or of darkness. So then let us not fall asleep as others do, but let us keep awake and be sober; for those who sleep sleep at night, and those who are drunk get drunk at night. But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, and put on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet the hope of salvation. For God has destined us not for wrath but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep we may live with him. Jesus said, For it is as if a man, going on a journey, summoned his slaves and entrusted his property to them; to one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one, to each according to his ability. Then he went away. The one who had received the five talents went off at once and traded with them, and made five more talents. In the same way, the one who had the two talents made two more talents. But the one who had received the one talent went off and dug a hole in the ground and hid his master s money. After a long time the master of those slaves came and settled accounts with them. Then the one who had received the five talents came forward, bringing five more talents, saying, `Master, you handed over to me five talents; see, I have made five more talents. His master said to him, `Well done, good and trustworthy slave; you have been trustworthy in a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your master. And the one with the two talents also came forward, saying, `Master, you handed over to me two talents; see, I have made two more talents. Then you ought to have invested my money with the bankers, and on my return I would have received what was my own with interest. So take the talent from him, and give it to the one with the ten talents. For to all those who have, more will be given, and they will have an abundance; but from those who have nothing, even what they have will be taken away. As for

Homily [You may be seated after the sermon opening prayer] Urgent Courage or Prudent Caution [After the homily there will be a moment of silence for private meditation] Creed BCP 326 We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. For those affected by, and in harms way of, natural disasters: hurricanes, floods, tornadoes, wildfires, and earthquakes. For the safety of all first responders. For all who are homeless, hungry, and unemployed; especially the clients of the Guild of Saint George. For individuals and their families who suffer the effects of addiction and

For the resolution of the conflict between Israel and Palestine. And for all the intentions in the Prayer Box; let us pray to the Lord. A versicle is the first half of a preces, said or sung by an officiant or cantor and answered with a said or sung response by the congregation or choir. One of the most familiar examples of this is, Alleluia, Christ is risen. answered by The Lord is risen indeed. Alleluia, There are other examples of this format scattered throughout our services. According to our BCP, psalms can be said or chanted in several formats. Direct recitation is the reading of a whole psalm in unison. Antiphonal recitation is the verse-by-verse alternation between groups, between the minister and the congregation, between the choir and the congregation, or between the two sides of the congregation concluding with the Gloria Patri. Responsorial recitation is chosen by some churches. In this format a refrain is first sung by a cantor and repeated by the congregation. The cantor then sings several verses from the psalm interspersed by a reprise of the refrain by the congregation. 6 To the Glory of God The Flowers on the Altar are given to the Glory of God by John Koons, Rick and Jani Hill in memory of Rollin and Harriet Koons. S t a y i n g P o s i t i v e We are bombarded from every angle, from all sorts of media, and from every point of view about the negative aspects of our culture, politics, religion, and economy. Everyone has an opinion about everything 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It is hard to escape it, to not listen to it, or to just totally disregard it. But even in the face of all the negativity, we are called by God to count our blessings, to thank God for life and life abundant, to act out of love not fear, and to be people of hope not hate. So yes, we need to hear the struggles, hurts and pains that are happening all around us and recognize our own.
