1 Week 4 DAILY DEVOTION Practicing God s Presence Devotion based on Psalm 84 The Great Commission Resurgence

2 INTRODUCTION: Is there a longing in your heart for the presence of God? Do you desire to hear God s voice and His agenda for your life? The psalmist in Psalm 84 expresses his sincere desire to dwell in God s presence. He recognizes that God blesses and manifest himself to those who longingly and faithfully pursue Him. He also knows that there is nothing that compares to the sweetness of God s presence. To hear God s voice you must be present in His presence. Therefore, he (the psalmist) has set his heart on a pilgrimage to draw near to the awesome presence of God. He knows that those who sincerely seek after God will experience His wonderful grace and glory. He understands that even though there are times that God s presence and blessings seem out of reach, God is always near, and he will see the goodness of God. It is God s sincere desire for each of us to know Him up-close and personal. He continually calls us to come into His presence so that we can have sweet communion and fellowship with Him. In that sweet communion and fellowship, we will find and experience His faithfulness, grace, and blessings. This calls to mind Elijah weeping before the LORD at the juniper tree: But he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O LORD, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers. 1 Kings 19:4 But it wasn t until a month later, precisely 40 days later, that we are told that Elijah finally broke through and had an invitation to God s presence: The LORD said, "Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the LORD, for the LORD is about to pass by." 1 Kings 19:11 It is my prayer that at the end of this consecration fasting and prayer, you will also receive a divine invitation into the presence of the LORD.

4 Day 22 February 22 ND 2018: Based on Psalm 84 If We Want to Experience the Sweetness of God s Presence, It is Important for Our Hearts to Cry Out to Him. How lovely is Your tabernacle, O Lord of hosts! My soul longs, yes, even faints for the courts of the Lord; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God. Even the sparrow has found a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young even Your altars, O Lord of hosts, my King and my God (vv. 1-3). Even birds recognize the sweetness of God s presence. In verse three, we see that the psalmist longs for God s presence so much that he is envious of the ability of the birds to dwell so close to the presence of the Lord. The word lovely (Strong s, 3039) in verse one can be translated loved or beloved. The psalmist loved to dwell in God s presence so much that his whole being was crying out for God. In the Old Testament, the presence of God dwelt in the Holy of Holies in the temple in Jerusalem, and therefore, the psalmist longs for the courts of the Lord. Desperate state to be in God s presence is the present need of today s churches. We need believers who will either have the presence or nothing at all. If our passion for His presence can match up with our actions, we will fulfill scriptures: For since the beginning of the world men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye seen, O God, beside thee, what he hath prepared for him that waiteth for him. Isa. 64:4

8 Day 23 February 23 rd Based on Psalm 84 Praise Ushers Us Into His Presence. Blessed are those who dwell in Your house; they will still be praising You. Blessed is the man whose strength is in You, whose heart is set on pilgrimage. As they pass through the Valley of Baca, they make it a spring; the rain also covers it with pools. They go from strength to strength; each one appears before God in Zion. (vs. 4-7). Praise is ignited in God s presence, and at the same time, praise will usher us into His presence. It is important for us to always keep in mind that praise opens the door into God s presence. We want our hearts to be so set on seeking God that no matter what difficulty we face we make it a place of praise. As we pass through the Valley of Baca (weeping Strong s, 1056), we will make it a spring (a source of satisfaction Strong s, 4599) of praise. As we praise God through our difficulty, we will experience the gracious rain of God s Spirit filling our lives with pools (prosperity, blessing Strong s, 1298) of blessings. With each trial we face, as we walk by faith, we will come forth stronger. We can truly count it all joy as James exhorts us to do in James 1:2-4: Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything (NIV).

Under the covering of the Superior Blood of Jesus, I am a hot coal of fire, any herbalist that tampers with my destiny gets burnt, in the name of Jesus.

10 READ BEFORE GOING TO BED FEBRUARY 22 ND BASED ON PSLAM 84 The Valley of Baca (Noted in vs. 6) By translation, Baca meanings, weeping or a state of mourning in the Hebrew tongue. It is a place of lamentation agonizing. Whilst the Israelites traveled to Jerusalem the Temple of God for worship, they ll have to pass through the Valley of Baca, a wilderness atmosphere saturated with a spiritual and physical state of depression and danger. It was in this place that David found himself in this Psalm. Sometimes we can all find ourselves in the Valley of Baca, where God is out of the picture. It is a place deprived of divine intervention and satisfaction. Have you ever cried, why me LORD or why is this happening to me LORD or I am tired of this LORD? Well if so, then you have found yourself a personal Valley of Baca. David in this state, showed us a sense of desperation for the things of God. He yearned to be in God s presence, instead of this state of selfpity and hopelessness. The Psalmist tells us that those that lean on God can escape Baca through praising God even in their wilderness experience. This is an act of faith; that despite the circumstances we can can t it all joy when we fall in diverse trails and temptation, that our God is yet able to deliver us from all of it; we can indeed have faith and praise Him knowing that many are the afflictions of the righteous but the LORD delivers them from all of it. You can t escape your Valley of Baca by sitting idle in defeat. You can do exactly the opposite of what the situation demands of you. Praises is a weapon against reproach and desolation. We do not praise God after He delivers us; Faith tells us to praise Him in the sight of the problem and reporting to the problem that we are persuaded in whom we have believed; that what we have entrusted to Him, He is faithful and able to keep it. So Nehemiah said, I mourned several days. He also found himself in his own Valley of Baca. But ceased not to cry to God night and day for 4 months until there was a divine intervention. Don t give up, there s victory in Praising God.

13 DAY 24 February 24 th 2018: Based on Psalm 84 Prayer Opens the Door Into His Presence. Knowing the value of the presence of God, the psalmist prays: O Lord God of hosts, hear my prayer; give ear, O God of Jacob! O God, behold our shield, and look upon the face of Your anointed (vs. 8-9). At this point in the Psalm, the psalmist voices a prayer to God asking Him to look upon the face of Israel s king, whom he refers to as our shield and Your anointed. He is asking for God s favor and His presence to be with his nation and its leader. In the New Covenant each believer is God s anointed, and as His anointed we desperately need God to look upon our lives, as well as our church and its leaders, with His favor and grace. Face-to-face with God is up-close and personal. Prayer opens the door into His presence where we can get up-close and personal with Him. We can t talk about prayer without praying; and we can t talk about knowing God without speaking to Him; And we can only speak to Him by praying. I know of no sane person who has a best-friend he or she doesn t talk to. And two people leaving in the same room without talking to each other have no intimate relationship to boast of. If you want God to be your best-friend who you can share secretes with you, then you must get into the art of praying. God will shine His face upon those who seek Him continually, and He will reveal unto them secrets that they never knew or can find in any records.

16 DAY 25 February 25 th : Based on Psalm 84 His Presence is Better than Anything Else We Could Ever Experience. Because the psalmist has known God s presence, he understands how important it is, and he declares: For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness (v. 10). There is an amazing story in 2 Samuel, chapter 6. In this story we discover that David left the ark of the Lord at the house of a man named Obed-Edom for three months. Because the ark of the Lord contained the presence of God, Obed-Edom and his entire household were blessed. In 1 Chronicles 15:18, we learn that Obed-Edom became a doorkeeper in the house of God. Once we experience God s wonderful presence, we want to do everything we can to guard it and remain close to Him. Imagine the King David stating in this remarkable verse, that he will rather be a doorkeeper like Obed-Edom, rather than a king? It is a striking thing to note how God s presence can cause a king to envy the state of a no-body like Obed-Edom. It does not matter where or how we were born, if the presence abides, we shall also abide and be unstoppable. If the presence of God made a difference in the life of Obed-Edom then I know it will make a difference in your life, my life and Honeywell Worship Center. It only took 3 months for God to change the state of Obed-Edom to a divine standard that even the king heard of him in another town. No one will encounter His presence and be the same. Obed-Edom refused to be separated from the ark of the covenant because he understood that his life has been transformed by it; and only be been attached to this glory, can his life continue to have any meaning. Do you desire His presence?

22 DAY 26 February 26 th 2018: Based on Psalm 84 Read Psalm 84 over again. Ask God to help you set your heart on a pilgrimage to daily dwell in His presence. Ask Him to show you any areas of your life where you are not fully trusting in His strength and faithfulness. As He shows you, commit those things to Him. Make a commitment that you are going to rest and trust in the promise that He is your sun and your shield, and He will give you His grace and glory. I know a godly man who was removed from a position of leadership at his work very unexpectedly. He was really taken by surprise, because things were going very well, and he was having great success at that time. He was totally confused by the situation. He was grateful that he still had a job, but he was hurt and bewildered by the circumstances that surrounded him. He began to set his heart on a pilgrimage to seek after God. As he walked through that time of testing, he began to make it a place of praise. As he stayed in an attitude of praise in the midst of the test, he discovered the rain of God s Spirit filling his life with spiritual blessings that far outweighed anything else. He began to experience a peace and rest in the Lord that he had not experienced before that time. As he continued to walk by faith in the midst of his test, he matured in wonderful ways in his Christian life. The test became a blessing that he is still walking in today. God has so blessed his life that he can truly say that God has not withheld any good thing from him. As we apply the principles of Psalm 84 to our lives, we will go from strength to strength. And we will find that we are walking in His glorious presence, experiencing spiritual blessing that far outweigh anything else.

28 DAY 27 February 27 th 2018: Reflections Psalm 84 There is a difference between praying to God and experiencing God in prayer. If we know how much God loves us, we would not become discouraged in pursuit. Your own experience will convince you more than description and explanation. When you have enjoyed God and the sweetness of His love you will find it hard to set your affections on anything else but Him. To obtain God s presence in prayer, we must deal with our own shortcomings and hindrances. First, we must have a Thirsty Heart. You must learn to pray from your heart and not your head. The mind is so limited in its operation that it can only focus on one object at a time. Prayer offered from the heart cannot be interrupted by reason. Nothing can interrupt this type of prayer. When you have enjoyed God and the sweetness of His love, you will find it impossible to set your affections on anything other than Him. There must be a hungry heart, willing to yield before it can receive. God desires to give His presence Your thirst and hunger for God is tested in dry seasons like the Valley of Baca God frequently conceals Himself for a purpose, like in Psalm 84 the Psalmist was yearning or longing for Him. For whatever reason, He does so out of His abundant goodness and faithfulness. During these seasons you may begin to believe the way to provide your faith is by a greater degree of affection or an exertion of strength and activity NO dear believer, this is not the way. Some believers feel in such times that they must force their worship or prayer without sincerity. But truly I believe, it is rather a time for reflection and mourning for your Beloved. You must await the return of the Beloved with patient love, humility, peace and silent worship. But doing these things you demonstrate to the Father that it is Himself alone and His good pleasure that you seek and not the selfish delights of your own satisfaction. Don t be impatient in your times of dryness, wait patiently for God. In doing so, your prayer life will increase and be renewed. In abandonment and contentment, learn to wait for the return of your Beloved, intermingle your waiting with sighs of love. O LORD of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee. Psalm 84:12. The true test of waiting is trusting; trusting that He has not forsaking you, and will neither live you comfortless. God has not made us orphans; you re not the child of a fatherless God. Surely, they that seek Him, will find Him. Amen.
