Nadine and Jean Pierdet 64 bis, Chaussée-Brunehaut Ansauvillers France Ansauvillers, March 21, 2006 Rev. Father Wallut: By your parish letter distributed February 5, 2006, in the same tone as your homily of the day, you have seriously insulted Mrs. Marie-Paule GIGUÈRE. Have you really weighed the implications of your assertions? The dictionary of medical terms defines psychiatry as the study of mental problems. Thus you are accusing Marie-Paule of insanity! The same work defines delusion as an intellectual creation unrelated to reality, that develops into a morbid secondary rationalization in which are incorporated elements from the imagination. We find such cases in asylums! The vehemence of your remarks is neither the guarantee of your competence in the field of medical diagnosis nor of the veracity of your accusations, the proof of which is incumbent upon you. However, an insult is never an argument. Do you know this 84-year-old lady, mother and grandmother, foundress of the religious Community of the Family of the Sons and Daughters of Mary, who, retired in the calm of her native Quebec, represents no threat whatsoever to you quite the contrary? Have you met her? Nadine and Jean Pierdet (in the center) and their two girls: Marie-Élizabeth (on the left) and Marie-Josée (on the right). By reason of an experience of more than 25 years, I and my little family know her to the point of being in a position to bear witness through an accurate reporting of events, [the] full explanation of matters of public concern, as the Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI said in his message of January 24, So we are offended by your scandalous, false and lying words, utterly unrelated to the truth and the reality of events.... 2
Let us consider, going back in time, Madam Marie-Paule leading a hidden, devout, charitable life in the strict and faithful accomplishment of the duties of her state, in spite of the atrocious conditions of her life. Subsequently she had to accept that all of this become public knowledge, in obedience to God s will. This fidelity to God s will earned her the honor of being severely criticized and insulted by the press, as well as opprobrium and condemnation coming from priests, bishops and even some cardinals, to whom it is sheer pride to obey God rather than men! Tell us what human pride would have found satisfaction from such an avalanche of blows over so many years? You should inform yourself, Father, for the facts can be easily verified in an abundance of documents on the Internet, in books or in the paper. Even in our times Marie-Paule, through obedience, is carrying out her mission to the very end in order to defend the accomplishments of a divine Work that has been entrusted to her. This mystical way involved in the prophet s mission and message is supported by the pen of Cardinal Hans Urs von Balthasar: The prophet s mission will be a mission of word... It must be comparable to a blow struck by a sharp sword. The mission tolerates no anxiety over the danger it presents, or concerning its opportuneness. It will form a whole, a necessary totality, guaranteed by the Lord s protection. (Hans Urs von Balthasar, Adrienne von Speyr et sa mission théologique, Apostolat des Éditions, Éditions Paulines, 1978) It is quite clear that recent issues of the paper Le Royaume, in which Marie-Paule had to reveal certain intimate graces and, as those who know her are aware, God alone knows how much it pains her to reveal them, would not have been disparaged by the Holy Father Pope John Paul II who expressed this wish at the dawning of the third millennium: Our Christian communities must become genuine schools of prayer, where the meeting with Christ is expressed not just in imploring help but also in thanksgiving, praise, adoration, contemplation, listening and ardent devotion, until the heart truly falls in love. Foolishness for men, wisdom for God. Well, the heart has reasons that reasoning does not know, Pascal said. What is incomprehensible to the great, who are so ready to cry blasphemy!, is perfectly acceptable to us, the little ones. We are, in fact, the very unworthy witnesses of a palpable coherency
How many times have we not read, or heard Marie-Paule say, I am the 0 (zero) through which God passes in order to realize His Work? Similarly, over the years, we have had, as a family, all the time needed to see, to hear, to fathom, as the need might call for, the excellent moral and psychological health of our Mother Foundress, a model health. A model of balance, of gentleness, of goodness, never failing to listen, realistic, an organizer and so many other talents. No sign of being out of touch with reality, of morbid rationalizations, of being a plaything of the devil. A tree is judged by its fruit. Reverend Father, you manifest for Mrs. Marie-Paule GIGUÈRE a malice humanly inexplicable. And yet you seem to be anxious to keep your parishioners informed. Why not show them respect by going and getting for them information that is true rather than fallacious? Do you know that the new Code of Canon Law: includes [in its French edition] as a preface a general provision in the matter of a grave inquiry: In order to foster to the maximum, the pastoral care of souls, in addition to the virtue of justice, place will be made in the new law for charity, temperance, humility, moderation, through which equitableness will be sought..., and, consequently, each time it will not be necessary to adhere strictly to the law, for the sake of public good... too-rigid rules will be set aside and recourse will even be had to exhortation and persuasion ; represses the Offence of Falsehood : 1. In canon 1390, no. 2, we read: A person who... injures the good name of another can be punished with a just penalty, not excluding a censure ; 2. In canon 1391, it is stated: The following can be punished with a just penalty...: a person who, in a public ecclesiastical document, asserts something false. Reverend Father, your remarks place you in violation of the new Code of Canon Law. Your aggressivity has led you astray, at the risk of your attacking someone stronger than yourself. You are laying up remorse for yourself, though you can still change your attitude. In the name of charity and truth charity for your soul above all broaden, for goodness sake!, your field of vision; put out into the deep (John Paul II), for God s plan is being realized, unbeknown to you, and can still have in store many surprising accomplishments. The doors of divine grace at work through the agency of
charisms, doors you would like to keep hermetically sealed shut, are opening, in spite of you, for the Community of the Sons and Daughters of Mary, beginning with Marie- Paule, our Mother Foundress. The Holy Spirit, already at work during Vatican II, led the Council Fathers to explain, through the decree Apostolicam Actuositatem, that, in fact, the indispensable contribution of supernatural grace nourishes the apostolate, for the sacraments, especially the most holy Eucharist, communicate [to the laity] and nourish that charity which is the soul of the entire apostolate. But in addition, the Holy Spirit, through charisms, renders fruitful every apostolate, because for the exercise of this apostolate the Holy Spirit... gives to the faithful special gifts as well, allotting to everyone according as he will. Thus may the individual, according to the gift that each has received, administer it to one another and become good stewards of the manifold grace of God... From the reception of these charisms... there arise for each believer the right and duty to use them in the Church and in the world... Thus, Reverend Father, however much you may want to, you cannot hinder God s plan that is deploying through the fecundity of the charisms, infused and diffused in Mother Paul-Marie, and then in her Sons and Daughters. You yourself, Reverend Father, being a member of the great religious family of the Benedictines, you can benefit from the charisim of your Founding Fathers, Saint Benedict and... Dom Guéranger! An appreciation can be had of this grace: through a spiritual direction chosen with great care by the soul, in accordance with the recommendation of Saint Teresa of Avila; by means of a serious enquiry concerning the founder or foundress, if possible while he or she is still living; through the verification of the relationship of perfect affinity between the charism, the spiritual direction and the apostolic fruits. The history of the Church teaches us that the reception and diffusion of charisms do not depend upon the approbation of a bishop and do not wait upon it; such approbation, on the other hand, is necessary to authenticate a Marian position taken. The charism is a different mystical phenomenon, one that can be disconcerting for theologians who theorize on the divine action. Nevertheless it still stands that God does
not need permission to open new avenues to the contemplation of His Mystery. Adrienne von Speyr invites us to meditate on what she calls the super-reality of God. In spite of His immutability, God can constantly change, open and broaden all that to us seems fixed. Notions such as that of love, of responsibility, of the Word of the Father, have for us, of course, a precise meaning, but one that is not exhaustive, since (as a notion) it remains human even in the faith... God s being is infinitely greater than what we hold to be real ; in comparison to our reality He is super-reality, a super-reality that far transcends us not only in its excessiveness but also in its content which surpasses to infinity and on every point our faith, our hope. Our knowledge is incomplete to an extent we could never measure, and that, at least, is absolutely as it should be. (Hans Urs von Balthasar, op. cit., p. 119) To open us to an understanding of the divine action in our time, Adrienne von Speyr suggests, finally, that we seriously consider the reality of Mary Co-Redemptrix: Mary, as Co-Redemptrix, is the key that opens our understanding to cooperation with the Lord, with His Work which comes from eternal life and returns thereto... Properly and clearly understood, this title of co-redemptrix would be capable of giving to our understanding and to our love a totally new and surging life, and put an end to our pusillanimous narrow-mindedness. (Hans Urs von Balthasar, op. cit., p. 303) That is what we wish for you, with all our heart, Reverend Father. 5 cc: To whom it may concern Jean Pierdet
