37 GUIDED TOURS SHIP BUILDING ROUTE (From Thursday 2 nd to Sunday 5 th April) Military Arsenal (Asset of Cultural Interest) Join us on a tour of this naval base, the most important in northern Spain, home to the F-100 frigates. Discover what lies behind the walls, the perfect Enlightenment port and the magnificent facilities that are still operational today which also boast a history stretching back 250 years. The ghosts are back to haunt San Felipe (From Holy Thursday to Holy Saturday) Dare to join this dramatized guided tour providing an insight into this historic castle with the help of the 18th century ghosts that live there. Visitors can reach the castle for the tour by boat, departing from the Curuxeiras port in Ferrol (boat trip charged separately) or make their own way to the castle and join the tour there. Opening times: Monday to Saturday from a.m. to 2.00 p.m. and 6.00 p.m. to 9.00 p.m. The exhibition features 60 photographs organised into the following sections: Shipyards, Mareel, the Irish Box, Costera del Bonito tuna fishing season, stevedores, goose barnacle gatherers, shellfish farming, the fish market and the Prestige. The aim of this exhibition is to highlight the work of the men and women that make their living from the sea. Despite working under extremely harsh conditions (cold weather, physical effort, danger, etc.) they rarely receive the recognition they deserve. Nature Museum Casa del Coronel. Pza. Canido, s/n. Run by the Galician Natural History Society, containing an interesting collection of fossils, animals, plants and minerals. Jofre Theatre Plaza de Galicia, s/n. Tel.: Guided tour on Monday, 30 th March at a.m. Reservations required by calling No tour on Monday, 6 th April (public holiday). Opened in 1892, it is one of Spain s most outstanding theatre buildings, with perfect acoustics and decorations in Classicist style. Its modernist façade was remodelled by Ucha Piñeiro in 1919, giving it the appearance of an urban palace. Ferrol s Holy Week

52 Didactic Water Garden (Aquaciencia) Parque Raíña Sofía, s/n. Tel.: Weekdays and Saturdays from a.m. to 2.00 p.m. and from 4.30 p.m. to 8.00 p.m. Closed on Sundays, Mondays and bank holidays. A space for learning and playing with water. Visitors can enjoy a tour of the garden, where a series of devices, models, panels and games allow them to discover everything about water, its energy, uses and properties. Urban Ecology Space Irmandiños, s/n. Tel.: Winter opening times: Tuesday to Sunday, from a.m. to 2.00 p.m. and from 4.00 p.m. to 6.00 p.m. Opening times as of 1 st April: from a.m. to 2.00 p.m. and from 4.30 p.m. to 8.00 p.m. Activities are held each afternoon free of charge. Participants can take part in craft workshops using waste materials. No prior registration is required, although the number of places is limited. Minimum stay: 1 hour. Organised for children aged 7 and over (accompanied by an adult) and adults. Sargadelos Gallery Rubalcava, Tel.: Opening times: Monday to Saturday, from a.m. to 1.30 p.m. and from 5.00 p.m. to 9.00 p.m. Closed on Sundays and bank holidays. 53 The English Way Curuxeiras dock is the start of the English Way, an alternative way of making the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela. The route takes pilgrims through stunning green landscapes in one of Europe s most spectacular and diverse regions. The Monastery of O Couto, with its superb Romanesque Church of San Martiño de Xuvia mirrored in the waters of Ferrol s tidal estuary, could well be the first stop, followed by a second at the magnificent Caaveiro Monastery. And in-between, travellers make their way over the medieval bridges built by the Andrade family: Pontedeume, Cambre, Betanzos and O Burgo, where pilgrims join the route from A Coruña. On the way, unforgettable medieval monuments, such as the castles of Pontedeume, the Romanesque Breamo, Tiobre, Santa María de Cambre and the monumental city of Betanzos that will all leave lasting images in your mind.
