Correspondence and other matters for consideration The Committee heard that the Chairman, Mr Charles Baker, had decided to resign, a consideration which had been made prior to his current ill health. It is hoped that Charles will return to Chair the DAC from September December 2017, and which point the Committee will express their thanks to Charles. The Committee also heard that Prof Brian Kemp had also decided to step down as a full member of the Committee, effective as of July Prof Kemp confirmed he would still like to receive the minutes and agendas and act in an advisory capacity on specific cases. The Director of Glebe and Buildings, Mr David Mason, gave an update on Bishop Steven s vision for the new diocesan strategy following the recent conference held at Hoddesdon. Bishop Steven announced that Contemplation, Compassion and Courage would be the focus of diocesan activities. 1

Rule 9.9 and 9.6 of the FJ Rules 2015 do not apply Oxford: St Clement (627205) Oxford II* Churchyard CF New hedge to protect western boundary of the churchyard The Committee heard that as the hedge is to be planted on Magdalen college land no diocesan permission is required. 6. Site Visits A) To note Ardley: St Mary Pre-application advice on removal of pews and replacement with chairs, this follows the recent installation of servery and WC Brightwell cum Sotwell: St Agatha Pre-application advice on faculty process, stonework repairs, heating system, Garden of Remembrance Bucknell: St Peter internal alterations including installation of WC Marlow: All Saints improvements to the WC and narthex Sunningdale: Holy Trinity Pre-application advice on removal of pews as part of a phased approach to enable greater community use of the church building. Despite 2015 planning consent for an extension the focus is now on internal reordering Waterside: Christ Church installation of glazed door to porch 2

Addition of two further bells and creation of trap doors. The site visit report was discussed and ratified by the Committee Cookham: Holy Trinity (627374) Berkshire II* Dev LK Date of site visit: 5 th June 3pm Attendees: Christine Allsopp, John Missenden, Liz Kitch A series of internal alterations and adaptions to the Church to provide better facilities within the Church and more attractive facilities to the wider community, in line with the Church's Mission Statement. The visit was discussed, site visit to be drafted and circulated to visit attendees for agreement prior to issue to the parish Reading: Greyfriars (627464) Berkshire I Dev LK Date of site visit: 5 th June 1pm Attendees: Christine Allsopp, John Missenden, Liz Kitch Redevelopment of Sackville Street Properties, New Church Centre to replace existing, New west end entrance foyer and link to new centre, associated external works The site visit report was discussed and ratified by the Committee. 3

7 7. New Cases A) Advise discuss Littlewick Green: St John the Evangelist (627382) Berkshire NL M & E HR To replace existing Tungsten light fittings with LED spotlights. The Committee resolved to support the principle of the scheme and delegated the case to the DAC lighting advisor subject to the usual wiring provisos. The proposals are not likely to affect the character or archaeological value of the building, or archaeological remains. No amenity society consultation is requested. Rule 9.9 and 9.6 of the FJ Rules 2016 do not apply Purley: St Mary the Virgin (627354) Berkshire II* Liturgical HR Return of Sanctuary Lamp to France The Committee resolved to recommend the proposal for faculty application, subject to the PCC confirming their current ownership of the sanctuary lamp and confirming to DAC officers the final location of the lamp, prior to the Notification of Advice being issued. The NOA to include the proviso that the Diocesan Registry is contacted regarding the gift agreement. The proposals are not likely to affect the character or archaeological value of the building, or archaeological remains. No amenity society consultation is requested. Rule 9.9 and 9.6 of the FJ Rules 2015 do not apply Drayton Beauchamp: St Mary the Virgin (627779) Buckingham I PP&M SH Replacement of existing brass WWI memorial plaque in chancel with plaque containing corrected information concerning those commemorated (following 7

8 historians' discovery of inaccuracies on existing plaque), plus the additional commemoration of two men killed during WWII. The Committee resolved to defer consideration of the proposal until a design for the new plaque had been received. The Committee noted that the incorrect existing plaque is a historic object in itself and it may be more appropriate for the existing plaque to remain, the inaccuracies to be recorded within the church history, and an additional plaque to be introduced for those not yet commemorated. The proposals are not likely to affect the character or archaeological value of the building, or archaeological remains. No amenity society consultation is requested. The Committee resolved to attend site to view the pews in situ. Historic England, the Victorian Society and SPAB to be consulted Fritwell: St Olave (627042) Dorchester II* M & E SH 8

9 Installation of pew heaters within the Nave, North Aisle and Chancel The Committee resolved to recommend the revised proposal for faculty application with the proviso that this work and any associated electrical work is to be carried out by an NICEIC accredited contractor, and subject to the usual wiring regulations. The proposals are not likely to affect the character or archaeological value of the building, or archaeological remains. No amenity society consultation is requested. Rule 9.9 and 9.6 of the FJ Rules 2015 do not apply Cookham: Holy Trinity (627374) Berkshire II* PP & M LK The introduction of a brass memorial plaque recognising the donation by the parents of William Edwin Hartley ( ) used to restore the northern window of the St Clement Chapel in his memory. The plaque would measure 300mm by 170mm by 3mm with engraved lettering filled black and four holes for dome cap screws. The Committee resolved to recommend the proposal for faculty application however it is suggested that the text is rationalised in order to lessen the density, and increase the size, of the text. This to be agreed with the Senior Church Buildings Officer prior to issue of a supportive NOA. The proposals are not likely to affect the character or archaeological value of the building, or archaeological remains. No amenity society consultation is requested. Rule 9.9 and 9.6 of the FJ Rules 2015 do not apply. B) Advise support recommendation Wendlebury: St Giles (627063) Dorchester II Churchyard SH Extending existing footpath. The Committee resolved to recommend the proposal for faculty application, subject to the specification for the brick paving to be agreed with an officer of the DAC prior to the issue of a supportive NOA. The proposals are not likely to affect the character or archaeological value of the building, or archaeological remains. The LPA is to be consulted. Rule 9.9 and 9.6 of the FJ Rules 2015 do not apply. 9

10 Leafield: St Michael & All Angels (627084) Dorchester II* Churchyard SH Drainage works to alleviate surface water problem on the eastern edge of the churchyard The Committee resolved to recommend the proposal for faculty application. The proposals are not likely to affect the character or archaeological value of the building, or archaeological remains (there are no burials in this area). The Diocesan archaeologist has been consulted. Rule 9.9 and 9.6 of the FJ Rules 2015 do not apply Bampton Proper: St Mary (627236) Dorchester I Churchyard CF Investigation of foundations prior to structural project The Committee resolved to recommend the proposal for faculty application. The proposals are likely to affect archaeological remains. HE to be consulted. Rule 9.9 and 9.6 of the FJ Rules 2015 do not apply Minster Lovell: St Kenelm (627256) Dorchester I Repair and LK Conservation Re-slating North Transept east and west roof slopes, South Transept east and west roof slopes and South Transept West Store west roof slope (low level) with new matching Cotswold stone slates coverings, including improved details at Tower and gable parapet abutments. Minor masonry and pointing repairs. Overhauling rainwater disposal system associated with identified roof slopes. Installation of external lighting system. To be carried out in accordance with the Specification of Work by Arnold Bartosch Ltd dated April The Committee resolved to support the principle of the works for faculty application and delegated the detailed consideration of the Specification of Works to Mr Bryan Martin and the Senior Church Buildings Officer upon receipt of photos of the roof in its current condition and details of the proposed external lighting, have been submitted to DAC officers. The proposals are not likely to 10

Rule 9.9 and 9.6 of the FJ Rules 2015 do not apply Speen: St Mary the Virgin (627432) Berkshire II Liturgical LK Reordering of Priest's and Choir Stalls The Committee resolved to recommend the proposals for faculty application. The proposals are not likely to affect the character or archaeological value of the building, or archaeological remains. No consultation has been requested. Rule 9.9 and 9.6 of the FJ Rules 2015 do not apply Grove: St John the Baptist (627550) Dorchester Not Dev Listed HR Creation office hatch and improve doorway The Committee resolved to recommend the proposals for faculty application. 12 Great Linford: St Andrew (627712) Buckingham II* OBC SH Restoration of the organ The Committee resolved to recommend the proposals for faculty application subject to the works being carried out under the supervision of and recommendation of the diocesan organ adviser, and subject to the PCC reverting to the DAC officers and organ adviser if asbestos is found in the blower box as this will require specialist removal.. The proposals are not likely to affect the character or archaeological value of the building, or archaeological remains. No consultation has been requested. Rule 9.9 and 9.6 of the FJ Rules 2015 do not apply. 00 Kirtlington: St Mary the Virgin (627049) Dorchester II* churchyard SH Regularisation of trench dug in churchyard The Committee resolved to recommend the proposals for retrospective faculty application. The proposals are not likely to affect the character or archaeological value of the building, or archaeological remains. The DAC Archaeological Advisor has been consulted. Rule 9.9 and 9.6 of the FJ Rules 2015 do not apply. 00 Banbury: St Mary (627130) Dorchester I OBC LK Regularisation of works carried out under interim faculty to repair the organ The Committee resolved to recommend the proposals for faculty application. Rule 9.9 and 9.6 of the FJ Rules 2015 do not apply. 00 Sunningwell: St Leonard (627316) Dorchester II* R&C HR Structural repairs The Committee resolved to support the principle of the repairs and delegated to DAC officers, Julian Munby, David Clark and Bryan Kemp. The Committee noted that in addition to revised specifications of works and drawings, information on the significance and date of the fabric affected should be provided. When issued the NOA to include the proviso that a sample of replacement stone to be checked on site by Robert Montgomery prior to works. Diocesan Archaeological Adviser is to be consulted about the proposed work and the level of observation and recording appropriate. The proposals are not likely to affect the character or archaeological value of the building, or archaeological remains. Historic England should be consulted regarding the suitability of the repairs. Rule 9.9 and 9.6 of the FJ Rules 2015 do not apply. 8. Private Petitions Tilehurst St Michael Memorial (Day) (SH) The Committee resolved to support the proposal for faculty application. Wexham St Mary Memorial (Duffy) (SH) The Committee resolved to support the proposal for faculty application. LATE ITEMS Rotherfield Greys Memorial (Thomson) 13

14 The Committee resolved to support the proposal for faculty application but concern was expressed regarding the timing of the installation of the memorial to avoid subsidence. Wycombe Marsh St Anne s installation of scaffolding on church site to access neighbouring property. Like for like replacement of boundary fence. The Committee resolved to support the proposal for faculty application. The proposals are not likely to affect the character or archaeological value of the building, or archaeological remains. No amenity society consultation has been requested. Rule 9.9 and 9.6 of the FJ Rules 2015 do not apply. St Peters College Chapel Installation of manuscript display case The Committee resolved to support the proposal for faculty application with the suggestion that the College ensure that the case effectively prevents UV damage to the manuscript. Bampton St Mary variation to organ restoration faculty The Committee resolved to support the Senior Church Buildings Officer and Barry Williams (organ advisor) in correspondence with the PCC regarding the contractor to carry out the works to the organ following the closure of Peter Collins Ltd. The Committee resolved that an IBO accredited contractor, or qualified individual with other accreditation for undertaking work to historic instruments should be instructed to carry out the works to the original specification. Alternatively, Mr Carter could undertake the works to the organ as the PCC wish with the proviso that an IBO accredited organ builder acts as mentor on the project, and subject to BIOS being content with this proposal. The Committee resolved that BIOS and the CBC were to be consulted on the change of contractor prior to a variation request being submitted to the Chancellor of the Diocese. 14
