When you are born you have original sin. The Sacrament of Baptism is the first Sacrament because it is the door to the Church and no other Sacrament can be received without it. You inherited original sin from the sin of Adam and Eve. Baptism only removes original sin. The one who ordinarily administers Baptism is a priest. Baptism is a second birth. When we are baptized, we receive a permanent mark on our souls. When we are baptized we become members of the Church. A deacon can do a Baptism. During a Baptism you receive a burning candle.
Only babies can be baptized. The duty of the godparent after Baptism is to see that the child is brought up a good Catholic if this is not done by the parents. Only Catholics who know their faith and live up to the duties of their religion should be chosen as godparents for Baptism. Catholic parents who put off for a long time or entirely neglect the Baptism of their children commit a mortal sin. The duty of the godparent is to raise the child if something happens to the parents. You do not have to be a Catholic to be chosen as a godparent for Baptism. Children should be baptized as soon as possible after birth. We promise through our godparents in Baptism to renounce the devil and to live according to the teachings of Christ and of His Church. When you are baptized water is used. At Baptism holy oil is put on you.
Baptism takes away original sin. Only a priest can administer Baptism. When you are baptized it also takes away actual sin and all the punishment due to them if you are truly sorry for them. If there is danger that someone will die without Baptism, anyone may and should baptize. Baptism is necessary for the salvation of all men because Christ has said, Unless a man be born again of water and the spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. As you are being baptized, the priest says, I baptize you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Baptism makes you a Christian. You receive your name at Baptism. Jesus was baptized in the Nile River. Jesus was baptized in the Jordan River.
Baptism is the second of the sacraments. Baptism is the first sacrament. John the Baptist was Jesus uncle. John the Baptist baptized Jesus. John the Baptist was Jesus cousin. Baptism can only be received once. Baptism can be received many times. A white garment on the newly baptized symbolizes new life in Christ. In Baptism, the water symbolizes how the Holy Spirit washes away the sin and gives us new life in God. God s life in us is called grace.
In Baptism, the oil reminds us we are chosen - "anointed" by God. In Baptism, the oil reminds us that the Holy Spirit will strengthen and protect because He has chosen us. Baptism, Confirmation, and the Eucharist are the 3 Sacraments of Initiation for the Catholic Church. During Baptism, a cross is made on your forehead with blessed ashes. If an older person is baptized only original sin is removed, not any Actual sins for which the person is truly sorry. Baptism does not remove all the punishment due to sin. Without the Sacrament of Baptism, no other Sacrament can or may be received. The second important effect of the Sacrament of Baptism is the removal or original sin. If you immediately die after receiving the Sacrament of Baptism, the person would not need to suffer any punishment in Purgatory, but would go directly into heaven. You do not have to receive the Sacrament of Baptism before receiving any other Sacrament.
The Sacrament of Baptism is the first Sacrament because it was the first one instituted by Jesus. For the Sacrament of Baptism to be valid the correct words must be used while pouring the water on the forehead. We enter the Church by way of the Sacrament of Baptism. Baptism is essential for entering heaven. The priest uses ordinary water for Baptism. Those who through no fault of their own have not received the Sacrament of Baptism, can be saved by Baptism of Blood or Baptism of Desire. The Baptism of Desire is a Sacrament. Baptism is the Sacrament that gives our souls the new life of Sanctifying Grace. A person cannot receive the other Sacraments unless he has received the Sacrament of Baptism. A Baptismal promise is to renounce Satan and his works.
Baptism is not necessary for salvation. Godparents do not have to be practicing Catholics. A gift given at Baptism is faith. Baptism is a second death. Baptism removes from the soul every sin. An unbaptized man cannot receive absolution by going to confession because in order to receive any other sacrament, one must be baptized. It is a mortal sin to delay Baptism because by doing so you could prevent a soul from entering heaven. An unbaptized man can receive absolution by going to confession. It is not a mortal sin to delay Baptism. At Baptism, through our godparents, we promise to renounce the devil and to live according to the teachings of Christ and of His Church.
