In rearing this adatation for accomanied choir I have retained, ith to minor changes, urleigh's keyoard accomaniment for his original solovoice version. In a footnote to his original version urleigh rites: "In one of the earliest editions of the Juilee songs this ord [in'] as mournin'." He refers here to the ulished reertory of the Juilee ingers of isk niversity, ho in the 1870s first introduced the erformance of frican merican sirituals into concert halls. My Lord, What a Mornin' [or Mournin'] is articularly fitting for the irst unday of dvent, Year, hen the Revised Common Lectionary readings reiterate aocalytic themes, as in Mark 13:2: "Jesus said, 'ut in those days, after that suffering, the sun ill e darkened, and the moon ill not give its light, and the stars ill e falling from heaven...'" In the edition of 1918 urleigh secifies the scritural source as Revelation 8:10 a text that is not included in the Revised Common Lectionary. I dedicate this adatation to rchie C.
