2 Page 2 May 7, 2017 Know that He, the Lord, is God. He made us, we belong to Him, we are His people, the sheep of His flock. From Psalm 100 The Voice of the Lord We are His. In these words from Psalm 100 we pray in poetry the message of today s Gospel, a message given to us by our Lord centuries after the psalm was written. We are His people, the sheep of His flock. The sheep hear the voice of their shepherd, and follow him. He protects them. We follow the Lord. He protects us. There are many voices in the world calling us to follow. We have to listen carefully for the voices that are coming from the Lord and for the voices that are not the voice of our shepherd. There is the voice that says, You can do this or that now. Everyone is doing this. Join in. What makes you think that you are different? Or, perhaps the voice says, Times have changed. Get with the modern way. This voice is tempting us to destruction, self destruction. If we follow it, we wander away from Christian morality in order to be part of the world. Soon, we realize that we have wandered away from our own happiness. That happens when we follow a voice that is not the voice of our Shepherd. There is the voice that says, In life, it is dog eat dog. This is the way of the world. You are either stepping on someone on your way up, or you are getting stepped on. You are either raising yourself up, or you are falling down. This is quite obvious in the business world, but this voice is not limited to the business world. You hear this voice wherever there are people seeking to gain some form of authority over others. This could be in the neighborhoods. You hear this voice in school. There are cliques in school where membership demands looking down at others and saying mean things about others in order to fit in. There are groups in the neighborhood association where people use others to rise to some form of authority, be it political or social. There are voices within ourselves that tell us that we are not good enough. These are not the voice of the Lord. They are the voice of evil, telling us not to get up from mud we might fall into, but instead, stay there in the filth. Sometimes this voice is due to an addiction that raises its head when least expected. The girl or guy has done well avoiding porn, drugs, or alcohol and then he or she falls and falls hard. Something within says, Give up. But the voice of the Lord says, No, we can beat this together. Don t give up. Get up. There is one voice that we need to listen to. That is the voice of the Lord. This is the voice within us that says as Paul put it so beautifully in Philippians 4:13: I can conquer all things in Him who empowers me. This is the voice that tells us that we are not too weak to live the Christian life. It is the voice that tells us to trust in our Lord. It is the voice that tells us that Christ is calling us to new adventures in holiness, to new heights, to a new relationship with Him.

3 Fourth Sunday of Easter A few years ago a contemporary Christian Group out of Australia called Hillsong United published a meditation on the voice of the Lord. The song was based on the voice of the Lord calling Peter out of the boat of comfort and into abandonment to the Lord. Let me read you two of its potent lyrics. Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders Let me walk upon the waters Wherever You would call me Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander And my faith will be made stronger In the presence of my Savior I will call upon Your Name Keep my eyes above the waves My soul will rest in Your embrace I am Yours and You are mine. CCLI License # I am Yours and You are mine. We are His. How can anything in the world surpass that? We belong to God, and He belongs to us. That is the joy of the Gospel. There are predators out there, trying to lure us, His sheep. We know their voices and we know where they are trying to take us. We also know the voice of God. And we know where He wants to take us. We pray today for the courage to follow our shepherd. Yours in Christ, This week s Altar Flowers were donated in memory of Lawrence Lindsey By Mary Lindsey Lord, grant eternal rest to the souls of our dearly departed, especially for EVELYN SOPHER, PATRICIA SKILLEN, PATRICIA HAGAN, JIM SCHUPPEL & GIRARD MANDORCA and for all those we hold in our hearts who have died, may they rest in the arms of God. Sunday, May 7th is World Day of Prayer for Vocations The purpose of the World Day of Prayer for Vocations is to publically fulfill the Lord's instruction to "Pray the Lord of the harvest to send laborers into his harvest." (Mt 9:38; Lk 10:2) As a climax to a prayer that is continually offered throughout the Church, it affirms the primacy of faith and grace in all that concerns vocations to the priesthood and to the consecrated life. While appreciating all vocations, the Church concentrates its attention this day on vocations to the ordained ministries (priesthood and diaconate), to the Religious life in all its forms (male and female, contemplative and apostolic), to societies of apostolic life, to secular institutes in their diversity of services and membership, and to the missionary life, in the particular sense of mission ad gentes " marks the 54th Anniversary of the World Day of Prayer for Vocations. 5 UPCOMING EVENTS Page 5 Rosary Crusade to Mark 100 th Anniversary of Our Lady of Fatima Apparitions May 13 th marks the 100 th Anniversary of Our Lady of the Rosary appearances to three children outside a small village Fatima, Portugal in These Apparitions and Blessed Mother s messages were officially declared worthy of belief by the Catholic Church in Pope Pius XII to our present Holy Father Francis, have visited the site of Cova Da Iria, a small walk from Fatima village, to pray to Our Lady. This coming May 12th-13th, Pope Francis will visit this revered site and also canonize two of the little children, Jacinta and Franceso Marto. Lucia, who wrote of our Lady s messages the Three Secrets died a Carmelite nun in The first secret that Sister Lucia mentioned was that as children they saw a vision of hell. The second secret was a recommendation of praying the rosary to save souls and bring peace to the world. Our Lady asked for a consecration of Russia to her Immaculate Heart and establishment of First Saturday Devotions. If her request heeded Russia would be converted and there would be peace. Communism did collapse but that was not the fulfillment. Russia would spread her errors throughout the world, causing wars and persecution of the Church. When Pope John Paul II visited Fatima on May 13, 2000, he said; the message of Fatima is more relevant and more urgent. (Just look at our media reporting on Russia and on North Korea this year) Our parish group of Teams of Our Lady, a worldwide group to renewed family life, with Mary as their patroness, asked Msgr. Joe if our parish could have a Rosary Crusade to pray for peace in the world, the return to inactive Catholics to Holy Mass, the end to terrorism, and avoidance of nuclear war. Our Pastor gave his blessing. Starting May 7 th there will be a Rosary Crusade Booklet in the front of the Church where each adult, teen and or family, may sign up to pray at least one decade of the Rosary a day, or a rosary a week or a daily rosary. Pray for the intentions of the Immaculate Heart of Mary which always beats with for the Heart of Jesus who has come for the salvation of the whole world. Sign up to pray the rosary from May 13 th to October 13 th in the Rosary Crusade Booklet in the front of the Church. Rosary Rally Join us for a Rosary Rally marking the 100th Anniversary of Our Lady of Fatima. Saturday, May 13th at 12 p.m. on the sidewalk in front of the Church. The Bible and The Sacraments When was the last time you heard about the sacraments? Perhaps you have attended a Baptism or a Marriage recently and were once again exposed to the various rituals and signs of that sacrament. But if you were asked: where these sacraments or signs came from and where would I find them in the Bible, you may be at a loss to explain them. In this short summer course we will hear about the genesis and reasons for all seven sacraments and how Jesus, through the church continues to offer the graces from God given fore each sacrament. We will learn why we are a sacramental church and have consistently offered these God-Events to all the faithful. Come with us on this journey into the mystery of these signs that bring grace and healing. There will be a 25 minute video presentation providing the biblical, historical and religious meaning to the sacraments. We will meet on Thursday mornings beginning June 22nd and ending on July 27th. Join us in classrooms 2 & 3 at 10:20 a.m. for an hour. There are no special materials or registration required and Bibles would be helpful. Join us for these interesting sessions. There will be ample time for questions. Check out our Bethany Book Shoppe. Open Sundays from 8:30 a.m a.m. And Tuesdays from 9:30 a.m p.m. All rosaries in stock are 50% off. NEW: St. Michael Military Rosary's available for $1.50.
