3 ~ PALM SUNDAY OF THE LORD S PASSION~ PARISH REGISTRATION All are most welcome here at St. Michael the Archangel Parish. Please register as soon as possible. If you are leaving the parish or just changing your address, please notify the parish office. If you are moving out of the area, please register in a parish where you live as soon as possible; this is especially important for young adults who have finished college and now live in another area. If you need help finding a parish in your new locale, we will gladly assist you. SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM Baptisms usually take place on the first Sunday of each month during the 10:00 AM Mass, unless the liturgical calendar dictates another Sunday. Baptismal Classes are held at convenience of priest and family. Parents must be registered parishioners. Contact the parish office to make arrangements for the Baptism. Please pay close attention to the requirements for Godparents (see below). If there is any doubt or you need a further explanation please contact us. TO BE A SPONSOR FOR BAPTISM OR CONFIRMATION Be an active, registered member of the parish Be at least 16 years of age, baptized and confirmed Receive Holy Eucharist and Penance on a regular basis If married, be married under the auspices of the Catholic Church Strive to live, publicly and privately, the Lord s Commandments Request sponsorship certificate no less than three weeks before the conferral of the sacrament. SACRAMENT OF MATRIMONY Couples contemplating marriage should contact Fr. Zelonis at least one year before the intended wedding date to begin sacramental preparations. Church date and arrangements MUST precede all other wedding plans. For diocesan registration: VISITATION OF THE SICK Please notify the parish office if someone in your family is in the hospital, as Fr. Zelonis visits every other week and by request. Also, Father and Sr. Catherine take Holy Communion monthly to those who are homebound and cannot attend Church. As soon as reasonably possible, call for Father to confess and anoint the seriously ill. Let nobody fall by the wayside! HANDING ON OUR CATHOLIC FAITH Because parents have given life to their children, they have the gravest obligation of educating them in the Faith. Our Catholic elementary and high schools immerse young people in holiness and virtue while offering other standard activities. Our CCD Program helps parents of public school children to meet their spiritual responsibilities. CCD enrollment may happen at any time but we prefer you register for the following year each May. The Church requires special prep for all youth preparing for First Penance, First Holy Communion and Confirmation. OTHER CONSIDERATIONS We welcome young adults back home for special occasions such as weddings and baptisms; however, non-parishioners who desire to celebrate a baptism or wedding here will need the permission of their pastor. DIOCESE OF ALLENTOWN - CATHOLIC CHARITIES A multi-purpose social service agency helping families, children and adults. Pottsville Office ~ CRISIS PREGNANCY HELP LINE PROJECT RACHEL Post Abortion Healing Dear Family, Recall, from two weeks ago, the fourfold blessing of our humanity: (1) The human person is in the image of God; (2) in his own nature he unites the spiritual and material worlds; (3) he is created male and female; and (4) God established him in His friendship. This is what sin has cheapened for us. We experience the effects of sin in our inclination to sin, in suffering and death, in the obscurity and presumed indifference of God toward the human plight. Paul s apt term was the mystery of lawlessness (2 Thess 2:7) The Catechism (385ff) makes clear that the entire mystery of devotion (1 Tim 3:16) Christ incarnate, crucified, risen, and proclaimed is God s response to the mystery of iniquity, or, as philosophers call it, the problem of evil. Bare philosophy falls short because it cannot perceive the finger of God. Divine Revelation understands sin as the abuse of God s love-intended freedom. Our induction into sin, so poignantly narrated in Genesis 3 4, leads the believer to the entirety of Jesus life and ministry, and to the Finger-Pointing of the Holy Spirit (anciently known as digitus paternae dexterae The Finger of the Father s Right Hand ) that convicts us of sin and draws us to the Cross, the wellspring of salvation. The fall of the angels precedes the human fall. While Satan and his league are powerful indeed, they are not nearly equals to the power of God. They are, however, superior in power to the unaided human person. How could God permit Satan, as in the case of Job, to exert his unsavory influence over the first man and woman, and everyone else besides? Romans 8:28 shares, We know that God enables all things to work together unto good for those who love Him. The working-together of all things culminates in the Paschal Mystery, which Mother Church declares in this Holy Week. The mystery of redemption entails our graced yet free cooperation. Participation in the Eucharist during the Sacred Triduum is the highlight, but for most of us, the Sacrament of Reconciliation is a necessary spiritual preparation. Have I told you lately that I love you and that my love for you, as your pastor, entails generous availability for Confession? The times listed in the bulletin hope to provide early morning and later evening opportunities. I published a personal and direct phone number in the bulletin for reasons such as I cannot make any of these times but I still would like to confess. I will drive to where you are if I am available. Don t let Father is so busy lull you into persisting in serious sin. This confessor is also often a penitent. I couldn t authentically exhort you to go to Confession otherwise. Same old stuff? Understandable. But don t be afraid to allow the Holy Spirit to dig deeper. His findings, once disclosed in the sacrament, will lead to freedom. Yours, SPECIAL PARISH CONFESSION TIMES FOR LENT Tuesday, April 16 ~ 5:45 to 7pm Wednesday, April 17 ~ 7 to 7:50am & 6:00 to 6:30pm (Holy) Thursday, April 18 ~ 7 to 8am (No AM Mass) (Good) Friday, April 19 ~ Noon to 1pm

NATIVITY BVM HIGH ~ registration call Mrs. Lynn Sabol * DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY, APRIL 28, 2019 Opening following the 7:00 pm Stations on Good Friday. Concluding services are being held on Sunday, April 28, 2019 beginning at 2:00 pm with Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament along with confessions at 3:00 pm The closing prayer service will begin at 3:00 pm with the Chaplet, Novena and Benediction. The Divine Mercy Novena Jesus asked that the Feast of the Divine Mercy, the Sunday after Easter, be preceded by a Novena to the Divine Mercy which would begin on Good Friday. He gave St. Faustina an intention to pray for on each day of the Novena. The different souls prayed for on each day of the novena are: DAY 1 (Good Friday) - All mankind, especially sinners DAY 2 (Holy Saturday) - The souls of priests and religious DAY 3 (Easter Sunday) - All devout and faithful souls DAY 4 (Easter Monday) - Those who do not believe in Jesus and those who do not yet know Him DAY 5 (Easter Tuesday) - The souls of separated brethren DAY 6 (Easter Wednesday) - The meek and humble souls and the souls of children DAY 7 (Easter Thursday) - The souls who especially venerate and glorify Jesus' mercy DAY 8 (Easter Friday) - The souls who are detained in purgatory DAY 9 (Easter Saturday) - The souls who have become lukewarm Novena Prayer I fly to Your Mercy, Compassionate God, Who alone are good. Although my misery is great and my offenses are many, I trust in Your Mercy because You are the God of Mercy, and it has never been heard of in all ages, nor do Heaven or Earth remember, that a soul trusting in Your Mercy has been disappointed. (State the intentions) Jesus, Friend of a lonely heart, You are my haven. You are my peace. You are my salvation. You are my serenity in moments of struggle and amidst an ocean of doubts. Amen.
