What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, do; and the God of peace will be with you. الرسالة: فيليبي 9-4:4 يا إخوة افرحوا في الرب كل حين وأقول ايضا افرحوا ولي ظه ر ح ل م كم لجميع الناس فإن الرب قريب. ال تهتم وا البتة بل في كل شيء فلتكن طلباتكم معلومة لدى الله بالصالة والتضرع مع الشكر. وليحفظ سالم الله الذي يفوق كل عقل قلوب كم وبصائر كم في يسوع المسيح. وبعد ايها اإلخوة مهما يكن من حق ومهما يكن من عفاف ومهما يكن من عدل ومهما يكن من طهارة ومهما يكن من صفة محببة ومهما يكن من ح س ن صيت إن تكن فضيلة وإن يكن مدح ففي هذه افتكروا. وما تعل متموه وتسل متموه وسمعتموه ورأيتموه في فبهذا اعملوا. وإله السالم يكون معكم.

2 THE GOSPEL: St. John 12:1-18 Six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, whom Jesus had raised from the dead. There they made a supper; Martha served, but Lazarus was one of those at table with him. Mary took a pound of costly ointment of pure nard and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped his feet with her hair; and the house was filled with the fragrance of the ointment. But Judas Iscariot, one of his disciples (he who was to betray him), said, "Why was this ointment not sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor?" This he said, not that he cared for the poor but because he was a thief, and as he had the money box he used to carry what was put into it. Jesus said, "Let her alone, let her keep it for the day of my burial. The poor you always have with you, but you do not have me always." When the great crowd of the Jews learned that he was there, they came, not only because of Jesus but also to see Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead. So the chief priests planned to put Lazarus to death also, because on account of him many of the Jews were going away and believing Jesus. The next day a great crowd who had come to the feast heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem. So they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet him, crying, "Hosanna! Blessed be he who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel!" And Jesus found a young ass and sat upon it; as it is written, "Fear not, daughter of Zion; behold, your king is coming, sitting on an ass's colt!" His disciples didn't understand this at first; but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that this had been written of him and had been done to him. The crowd that had been with him when he called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead bore witness. The reason why the crowd went to meet him was that they heard that he had done this sign. اإلنجيل: يوحنا 1:::-1: قبل الفصح بستة ايام أتى يسوع الى بيت عنيا حيث كان لعازر الذي مات فأقامه يسوع من بين األموات. فصنعوا له هناك عشاء وكانت مرتا تخدم وكان لعازر احد المتكئين معه. اما مريم فأخذت رطل طيب من ناردين خالص كثير الثمن ودهنت قدمي يسوع ومسحت قدميه بشعرها فامتأل البيت من رائحة الطيب. فقال احد تالميذه يهوذا بن سمعان االسخريوطي الذي كان مزمعا ان يسلمه: لم لم ي ب ع هذا الطيب بثالث مئة دينار وي عط للمساكين وانما قال هذا ال اهتماما منه بالمساكين بل ألنه كان سارقا وكان الصندوق عنده وكان يحمل ما ي لقى فيه. فقال يسوع: دعها انما حفظ ت ه ليوم دفني. فإن المساكين هم عندكم في كل حين واما انا فلست عندكم في كل حين. وعلم جمع كثير من اليهود ان يسوع هناك فجاؤوا ال من اجل يسوع فقط بل لينظروا ايضا لعازر الذي أقامه من بين األموات. فأتمر رؤساء الكهنة ان يقتلوا لعازر ايضا ألن كثيرين من اليهود كانوا بسببه يذهبون فيؤمنون بيسوع. وفي الغد لما سمع الجمع الكثير الذين جاؤوا الى العيد بأن يسوع آت الى اورشليم اخذوا سعف النخل وخرجوا للقائه وهم يصرخون قائلين: هوشعنا مبارك اآلتي باسم الرب ملك اسرائيل. وان يسوع وجد جحشا فركبه كما هو مكتوب: ال تخافي يا ابنة صهيون ها ان م ل كك يأتيك راكبا على جحش ابن أتان. وهذه األشياء لم يفهمها تالميذه اوال ولكن لم ا م ج د يسوع حينئذ تذك روا ان هذه انما ك تبت عنه وانهم عملوها له. وكان الجمع الذين كانوا معه حين نادى لعازر من القبر وأقامه من بين األموات يشهدون له. ومن اجل هذا استقبله الجمع ألنهم سمعوا بأنه قد صنع هذه اآلية. O Christ God, when we were buried with thee in Baptism, we became deserving of thy Resurrection to immortal life. Wherefore, we praise thee, crying, Hosanna in the highest, blessed is he that cometh in the Name of the Lord. O Christ God, when thou didst raise Lazarus from the dead, before thy Passion, thou didst confirm the universal resurrection. Wherefore, we, like babes, carry the insignia of triumph and victory, and cry to thee, O Vanquisher of death, Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he that cometh in the Name of the Lord. 5 Very Reverend Ihor Kutash (The Entry of the Lord into Jerusalem - Palm Sunday) It is the Sunday of triumph which prepares us for the crowning triumph which we shall celebrate next Sunday. Today Jesus rides in glory into Jerusalem, the city of peace between God and humanity. The people acclaim Him to be Who He really is - the Messiah, sent by the Heavenly Father to save the world. As the events unfold it is clear that this is not the final victory. Jesus still has enormous trials to undergo. He has before Him the most ferocious battle that can be imagined. There are: the betrayal by His disciple, the trial, the unjust condemnation, the torments, the cross, the incredible weight of all the sins of humanity. Yet these are but the consequences of the choice He has already made: to fulfil the Father s will - to redeem humans from slavery to sin, death, their alienation from God, each other and their own selves. If we look at things the way they really are, we shall understand why, even in the Services which convey the pain and suffering of the Saviour, we find notes of joy and victory. It is because we celebrate our Hero s VICTORY. Step by painful step He WINS each contest and, finally, with His victory shout upon the Cross proclaims that indeed "It is finished". He has won! Thus, as Saint Paul calls us in today s Epistle: "Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. Let all men know your forbearance. The Lord is at hand. Have no anxiety about anything...!" Alleluia! (A Meditation by Mary Grace Ritchey) The Byzantine Daily Worship tells us that the feast of Palm Sunday began in the Fourth Century in Jerusalem where, at the site of Christ's entrance into Jerusalem, the Gospel was read and Christ was hailed as the King of the Heavenly City of Jerusalem. The bishop re-enacted the event by riding on an ass while a multitude of people carrying palms and singing hymns, processed to the Church of the Resurrection. The Palm Sunday procession was adopted by the Western Church in Rome in 1039 (BDW p. 815). Children play a central part in the icon and in the and in our celebration today. The people who took part in the procession singing "Hosanna, blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord" had come to see the risen Lazarus, out of curiosity. In the icon the true believers are the children. In icons, children are shown in their spiritual maturity rather than their physical stage ofgrowth. When Mary is shown with her mother Anne, when Christ is shown with His mother, Mary, they are shown as small adults. So, too, in this icon the children are shown as miniature adults who are participating in the procession by covering the path on which Christ is riding, with clothing and palm branches. A palm branch is a symbol of joy and feasting in the icon (THE MEANING OF ICONS by Lossky and Ouspensky p. 176). The palm branch is also placed in the hand of the martyrs in the icons associating joy with their imitation of Christ's giving of life. "The Jews used them to welcome people of high rank; as a symbol of valour it was also given to reward conquerors. So the crowd gathered at the city gates with palm branches in their hands to welcome the Lord riding on a donkey as the Conqueror of death" (p. 176). In the icon Jesus rides sideways looking either at the Apostles following Him or toward Jerusalem. His right hand is usually shown in blessing or pointing to the people and the city.

6 يا إليعازر هلم خارج ا قبل دخوله مدينة أورشليم يقصد الرب يسوع قرية بيت عنيا لكي يوقظ حبيبه الراقد في مدافنها )يوحنا 11:11( هذا الحبيب الذي ي دعى إليعازر فيتحو ل ذلك اليوم الى أح د صغير تسم يه الكنيسة سبت إليعازر. ولكن هل ينحصر هذا العيد في إليعازر الذي أقامه المسيح والذي نحن ذاهبون لنعي د إلقامته م ن يدخل الى عمق معاني الخدمة اإللهية ال يستغرقه طويال أن يتبي ن أن العيد هو عيد إقامة إليعازر ولكنه أيض ا عيد إقامة كل إليعازر من الناس ) إليعازر عبارة عبري ة مؤل فة من كلمتين: إيلي أي إلهي و ع ز ر أي معين فيكون معنى العبارة إلهي معين (. كيف يكون المؤمن إليعازر ا خالل األربعيني ة المقد سة الممتد ة من بداية الصوم الكبير حتى يوم الجمعة من األسبوع السادس تدعو الكنيسة كل مؤمن من أبنائها الى مغالبة خطيئته عبر المواظبة مساء كل يوم على إقامة خ د م الصوم الجماعي ة والى تمث له مضامينها والسلوك بموجبها لكي تكون له خير م ع د للفصح المطل. يمتثل المؤمنون فيواظبون على الخ د م الصيامي ة ومنها صالة النوم الكبرى التي فيها يرت لون يا رب القوات كن معنا فإن ه ليس لنا في األحزان معين سواك يا رب القوات ارحمنا. فإذا أدرك المؤمنون في قلوبهم عمق ما يرت لونه وهو أن هللا دون سواه هو م ن ليس لهم معين سواه يركنون الى هللا وحده ويعتصمون به. فيكون تالي ا هللا معينهم ويصبح كل منهم إليعازر ا يحب ه يسوع سوف لن يدخل يسوع أورشليم ليتم م خالصه إال بعد أن يمر به ليناديه باسمه من قبر خطاياه الم نت نة: يا إليعازر هلم خارج ا لكي تحمل لي عالمات الغلبة والظفر )نشرة رعيتي( فضائل يذكرها بولس اقتبست الكنيسة من رسالة فيليبي ما فيه فرح وما يتفرع عن الفرح يوم ندخل بالشعانين في انكشاف هو الخالص. فإذا قال الرسول: افرحوا في الرب كل حين ينفي وطأة كل حزن علينا اذا ذكرنا المخل ص. وهذا يقود الى القول ان ليس من محل للحزن مهما طرأ علينا من أهوال. ولي ظه ر ح ل م كم لجميع الناس فالمطلوب هو الصبر عليهم والمغفرة وانفتاح القلب لكل واحد. ثم يدعو الى أن نرفع طلباتنا الى هللا بالصالة ولكن يزيد على الطلبات الشكر اذا لب ى هللا طلباتنا. وعندئذ ينزل علينا سالم هللا الذي يفوق كل عقل. والسالم الذي يشير اليه بولس هو ثمرة المصالحة مع الرب وليس مجرد هدوء أعصاب. ويوضح ان طبيعته نعمة ألنه ي نشئ البصائر في يسوع المسيح الذي فيه نرى الصالحات وما نرثه من الرب في الملكوت اآلتي وما نراه عند األتقياء في هذا الدهر. وبعد هذا يشير بولس الى فضائل كثيرة تفيض من القلب التائب: الحق اوال الذي يحتوي كل شيء و العفاف الذي نسعى اليه بجد ة في األسبوع العظيم الذي نفتتح ثم العدل بين الناس وال سي ما المتخاصمين وأال نتحي ز الى أقربائنا أو أصدقائنا. والى العفاف يزيد الطهارة التي هي نقاوة القلب التي تؤه لنا الى رؤية الرب كما قال السي د في التطويبات. ح س ن الصيت الذي يذكره ثمرة للسلوك الح س ن. وكذلك يحض بولس على مدح األتقياء في غيابهم لندعو الناس الى التشب ه بهم. افتكروا في هذا يقول وال تفتكروا في أي شيء سي ء لئال تضي عوا أي ة فرصة للفضيلة. انبذوا الكالم البط ال اي الثرثرة والنميمة التي تقتل النفس. أخير ا يختم بدعوته المؤمنين في فيليبي ان يتعل موا منه وأن يتمس كوا بما تسل موه وسمعوه منه وما رأوه فيه في تصر فه. فالمسيحي ة تؤخذ ممن سبقك في اإليمان والجهاد والمحبة والعدل والطهارة وفي عمل الحق. المسيحي ة تنتقل من جيل الصالحين الذين كافحوا الشر قبلك ورأيت مجد هللا عليهم. ال تقل فقط قولهم ولكن اعمل ما عم لوا. ليست المسيحي ة فقط كتب ا ت قرأ ولكن ها سلوكي ات تنتقل من واحد الى آخر. فويل لمن تأتي عن يده العثرات وطوبى لمن عم ل الصالحات ألنه ليس يتبر ر وحده أمام هللا ولكنه ينقل الب ر لآلخرين. فهناك تراث معرفتنا لإليمان والى جانبه تراث القداسة. فقد يعرف بعض الناس أشياء ولكنهم ال ينقلون النور. ليست المعرفة كل شيء ولكن كل شيء أن تقترن بالطهارة فهذه تفعيل لمعرفة المسيح وما قاله. هكذا أنت تدخل الى أورشليم وتعيش معه األحداث التي عاشها وتموت معه وت دف ن معه وتقوم معه. وهذه عملي ة دائمة نسعى كل يوم الى تحقيقها كي ال يبقى في قلبك منزلة لغير المسيح. جاورجيوس مطران جبيل والبترون وما يليهما )جبل لبنان(.
