Children are invited to the front at the beginning of the service and are led out to Crèche (0-3yrs) and Sunday Club (4-10yrs) during the first hymn. They return to the Nave during the Offertory Hymn. Lighting the Advent Wreath The second candle is lit People of God: be glad! He went into all the region around the Jordan, proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins, as it is written in the book of the words of the prophet Isaiah, The voice of one crying out in the wilderness: Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight. Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be made low, and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough ways made smooth; and all flesh shall see the salvation of God. STEWARDING CHRISTMAS SERVICES: We need more stewards to help at Carols on the Hour on 19th, the Lessons and Carols Services on 20th and 21st, and all three services on 24th - afternoon Crib Service 3pm and then Evensong 5.30pm and especially at Midnight Mass. Offers of help gratefully received by Stephen De Silva on HELP NEEDED FOR TOWER TOURS - the Cathedral offers around 50 tower tours a year and for each we require a leader who is a trained Cathedral guide and also a tail ender who keeps the public moving along, shuts doors and turns off lights. We would particularly welcome more tail enders, so if you are happy to climb around 200 steps and are not deterred by claustrophobia or heights, please contact Neville Scott at dmscott@waitrose.com. Tours generally take place from May to October. THE PARISH CHRISTMAS CARD POST BOX will be available for internal Christmas cards next week. It will be positioned near the bottom of the Michael stair. Cathedral post should continue to be placed in the pigeonholes as normal. MOTHERS' UNION Christmas social evening will be "Murder in the Deanery" - a Murder Mystery evening on Wednesday 16 December, at 7.00 pm in the Chapter Room. For a donation of 25 or more a hand-carved wooden angel will be added, carrying a name or short message of your choice, to the growing angel clouds in the Cathedral. Cathedral Library Book Groups : the groups meet at 2.30pm and 6.00pm on Tuesday 8 December in the Library, to discuss Phil Rickman s Wine of Angels. All welcome; just turn up.
