All rights reserved. onelicense.net A Receiving Communion: The altar in our church belongs to God. All are welcome and encouraged to come forward during the distribution of Holy Communion. To receive communion, stand or kneel at the rail, stand against the plaster wall inside the rail, or notify an usher that you need to have communion brought to you at your seat. After you receive communion at (or inside) the rail, please remain in place until the chalicist says Go in peace. The response after receiving each kind (bread and wine) is Amen, or you may remain silent. If you wish to receive a blessing instead of communion, please cross your arms over your chest before the Bread comes by. Gluten-free wafers are available; simply ask the person distributing the Bread. We drink the wine from the Common Cup. We do not practice intinction, that is, dipping bread in wine. If you do not wish to drink from the chalice, please cross your arms over your chest so the chalicist knows this. Receiving the Sacrament in either kind alone constitutes a full and valid Communion. Saint John's Church is committed to achieving the full inclusion of all people in Christ's Body, the Church. Please feel free to ask the rector if you have any questions. Communion Hymn 321 Rockingham 7

8 After all have received, a period of silence and reflection precedes the Post-Communion rite. Celebrant Let us pray. Eternal God, heavenly Father, you have graciously accepted us as living members of your Son our Savior Jesus Christ, and you have fed us with spiritual food in the Sacrament of his Body and Blood. Send us now into the world in peace, and grant us strength and courage to love and serve you with gladness and singleness of heart; through Christ our Lord. Amen. Celebrant People The Lord be with you. And also with you. The Priest blesses the people. The people say: Amen. At the procession: Hymn 344 Celebrant: People: Let us go forth into the world, rejoicing in the power of the Spirit. Thanks be to God. 9 SAINT JOHN S CHURCH NEWS AND NOTES: August 28, 2016 A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL WHO HELPED WITH ALL THE ACTIVITES THIS VERY BUSY WEEK: MUSIC CAMP We had 17 boys and girls attending this event and had a blast with learning new music, playing bells, drums, boom wackers, writing Haiku, dancing and acting. We had a marvelous Showcase on Friday. Staff features veteran teachers and performers from the Cape Ann Interfaith Community including Kathleen Adams, Annisquam Village Church; Rose Sheehan, Gloucester UUA; Kristina Martin, First Congregational, Rockport; Pastor Anne Deneen and Eva DiLascio, St. Paul Lutheran, Lanesville; Jay DiPrima and Mark Nelson from St. John's. The program was supported by the North Shore Mission Hub. We hope this is the beginning of new opportunities for work with children on Cape Ann. The Grace Center Benefit Concert, hosted by Gloucester Unitarian Universalist Church on Friday, August 26. SICILY COMES TO GLOUCESTER Fresh from Sicily to our Sicilian home in Gloucester, the Trinacria Theatre Company performed on Saturday, August 27 th at 7pm. Company members reimagine the Sicilian folk legend of Colapesce, the tale of a fisherman s son from Messina who spends so much of his time diving beneath the waves that he is said to be half-man, half-fish. SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 11 MARKS THE RETURN TO THE REGULAR SUNDAY SCHEDULE. Eucharists at 8 & 10:30 with Sunday School and Adult forum at 9:15. We will also have a chance to sign-up for your time and talent for St. Johns Church. Do you ever wonder how everything gets done on a Sunday morning for church service? Or how the Country Cupboard Fair is so well set up on the morning of the fair at 9am when the doors are opened for business? Choir? Thrift Shop? Come on in to the parish hall after each service today and sign on. The News from Down Under St. John s Thrift Shop The Book Sale is attracting new customers to the Thrift Shop and mid-summer sales have been good. Even so, we are looking toward our big closing event in a few weeks. The shop will be closing with a Yard Sale on Saturday, September 17 th. A lot of the prep work will be done the day before. Your help on either of these days will be much needed. Please check your calendar and put your name on the list in the Parish Hall if you find yourself available. Many thanks from all the Thrift Shop volunteers, for your assistance and for all the great donations that arrive throughout the year. Questions: contact to Martha Whitney at thriftshop@stjohnsgloucester.org or COUNTRY CUPBOARD FAIR: Crafters continue to meet every other Tuesday from 9-11 to prepare for our fair in November. Our next meeting will be on August 30th and you are most welcome to join us. Do you have colorful cotton fabric stored away that you ve never gotten around to using? We would welcome it. Just bring it to the office. For more information, please contact Gwen Kopka at

12 Welcome to Saint John s Episcopal Church in Gloucester, Massachusetts Be you a regular worshiper, first-timer, or occasional visitor, we hope you will enjoy our fellowship! St John s worship, Sunday Adult Forums, and other programs are always open to everyone. Come and check us out! Children are always welcome at worship in St. John s Church! First time in our Church? We are delighted that you are here! For some visitors our customs are very familiar, for others they are completely new. If you are among the latter group, RELAX, there is nothing that you can do by accident that will cause offense! Ask an usher, watch your neighbors, go with the flow. Introduce yourself to our Rector and sign our guest book after the service. Restrooms: There are three: one on each level at the far end of the building from our worship space. Exit the door opposite the organ and follow the signs. Children in Church: Children of all ages are welcome in church. We want children and parents to enjoy church and we support you in doing what you need to do toward that goal. It's OK for children to sound like children; we won't be offended. Please use the play area at the front of the pews on the right, or the Thompson Room, at any time, no matter what part of the service is going on, if they will help you or your child(ren). The Thompson Room has a table, chairs, couches, carpeted space, and a PA system that will let you hear what is going on in church. Nursing mothers may breastfeed there or in church. Your child s comfort, safety, and well-being are your proper concern, and we support you in fulfilling that obligation. Access Needs: If you need help at the step leading up to the altar or would find it easier to receive Holy Communion in your pew, please speak to an usher. Hearing Assistance devices are also available. If you would like to try one out, please speak to an usher.
