This also includes items made from meat, like gravies and soups. Catholics 14 years of age or older are bound to abstinence on Fridays in Lent, and on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. REMEMBER: THERE IS NO UPPER AGE LIMIT ON ABSTINENCE. You are not excused fro abstaining from meant I f you have reached a certain age. However, those who have health issues which prevent them from abstaining from meat on these days should seek other forms of penance. ASH WEDNESDAY AND GOOD FRIDAY ARE DAYS OF ABSTINENCE AND FASTING. Fasting and abstinence are not the same. Fasting is different than abstinence. Fasting means one full meal, two light meals, with no eating in between meals. Catholics from 18 to 59 are bound to the obligation of fasting. Those who have health issues may find other means of penance if fasting is impossible. Note: Please contact the ushers at the back of Church; if the Mass is being said for your loved one and you wish to bring up the gifts!

3 Page Three February 10, 2019 FIRST FRIDAY ADORATION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT Will be held at St. Francis Xavier on the odd months (January, March, May, July, September and November), following the Friday 8:00 am Mass. And it will be held at Our Lady of the Lakes on the even months (February, April, June, August, October and December), following the Friday 9:00 am Mass. PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY The Prayer Shawl members will meet on Tuesday, February 19th at 1:00 p.m. in the Parish Center (1 Elm St.) (school building). New members are welcome to join this ministry that knits and crochets prayer shawls for the sick and infirm, young and old. They are creating blizzard & break bags to benefit Camella s Cupboard who provides food for days off of school or scheduled breaks of two days or more and anticipated days off due to inclement weather. They are collecting canned soups and meats, instant soup packets, canned beans, canned vegetables, canned fruit or fruit cups, jello or pudding cups, cups of noodles, sleeves of crackers, jars of peanut butter, small bottles of Gatorade, small bottles of water, boxes of water flavoring packets, small bags of chips, granola bars, cereal bars, small boxes of shelf stable milk. St. Francis Xavier, New Milford: The Sacrament of Confirmation will be administered on Saturday, June 1st, at 10:00 a.m., by Bishop Juan M. Betancourt, SEMV, with Mass. TRIBE: (Jr. Youth Group for grades 6, 7 & 8) Our next event takes place on Sat., Feb. 23rd following the 5:00 p.m. Mass. It will be a night of Too Blessed to be Stressed. Does stress have you on edge? Find out how to lessen stress in healthy ways and use it to your advantage. One way is to do something for others. We will have a service project included in this evening. Dinner will be a buffet, please bring a dish to share. Parent pick up is at 8:15pm. Call Sue with questions. MISSIO - Faith Formation Congress Ignite Hearts 2019 Sat., March 30 from 8:30 am - 3:30 pm St. Paul Catholic High School, Bristol, CT The Office of Education, Evangelization and Catechesis (OEEC) invites parish catechetical leaders (PCL), youth ministers, catechists/teachers, Catholic school educators, RCIA coordinators, sacramental preparation coordinators and all who minister in faith formation, to attend MISSIO, a day designed for growth in ministry and faith. A packet of information will be given to our catechists/teachers and anyone else interested may stop by the office to pick one up. A group will leave from St. Francis Xavier parking lot, please RSVP by Feb. 18th to Chris in the office. St. Francis Xavier will be covering the cost of this day. We encourage you to attend to take advantage and attend this worthwhile event. First Communion The First Communion Preparation classes have begun. The remaining dates are Thurs., Feb. 28th and March 7th. All classes are from 6-7pm at the Parish Center. Classes begin promptly at 6:00 pm, please be on time. Thank you. St. Francis Xavier Parish BAD WEATHER CANCELLATION POLICY As winter approaches, the following policy is in place for delays/cancellations of parish activities, etc. If school is cancelled, early dismissal or cancellation of after school activities, all parish functions are cancelled except MASS. For grades K-10, each class will be allowed two snow days for the year. The lessons missed in classes K-8 will be given out at their next class and then completed at home and brought to their next class. We will notify you if it becomes necessary to makeup additional snow days. If school is delayed (e.g. delayed 3 hours or less), afternoon functions such as Faith Formation classes, evening meetings/ events will still take place at their regular time. This policy does NOT affect Sunday Masses or Masses on Holy Days of Obligation, unless the Governor declares a State of Emergency. MASS will always be at the regularly scheduled time. Please use your discretion in inclement weather. For information about school closings and delays, please check our app or our facebook page or watch your local Connecticut T.V. news stations to receive notifications and/or cancellation information. Catholic Social Justice Internship Available Do you have an interest in fighting poverty and the systems that oppress people? Consider becoming CCHD intern! The Office for Catholic Social Justice Ministry of the Archdiocese of Hartford is looking for interested applicants in a academic year internship. Working from our office in Bloomfield, an intern will have opportunities for one-on-one interactions with local poverty focused groups, research, training and outreach, and parish interaction. CCHD internships are open to Catholics in the United States who have leadership abilities, community service experience, and effective writing/communication skills. Openness to the CCHD values of solidarity building participation of the poor, and Catholic social teaching is essential.
