OPENING PRAYER God, our Father, bless Robert and Beth, we thank you for their and happy marriage; for the children they brought into the world and for all the good they have done. As you blessed the love of their youth, continue to bless their lives together with gifts of peace and joy. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Commentator: Please be seated and let us listen to the readings.

6 LITURGY OF THE WORD First Reading Lector: A reading from the first book of Kings 8:55-61 King Solomon stood erect, and in a loud voice he blessed the whole assembly of Israel. Blessed be the Lord he said who has granted rest to his people of Israel, keeping all his promises; of all the promises of good that he made through Moses his servant, not one has failed. May the Lord our God be with us, as he was with our ancestors; may he never desert us or cast us off. May he turn our hearts towards him so that we may follow all his ways and keep the commandments, and laws and ordinances he gave to our ancestors. May these words of mine, of my entreaty before the Lord, be present with the Lord our God day and night, that he may uphold the cause of his servant and the cause of Israel his people, as each day requires, so that all the peoples of the earth may come to know that the Lord is God indeed, and that there is no other. May your hearts be wholly with the Lord our God, following his laws and keeping his commandments as at this present day. The Word of the Lord. 7 Second Reading A reading from the first letter of St. Paul to the Thessalonians 2:7-9,13 Like a mother feeding and looking after her own children, we felt so devoted and protective towards you, and had come to love you so much, that we were eager to hand over to you not only the Good News but our whole lives as well. Let me remind you, brothers, how hard we used to work, slaving night and day so as not to be a burden on anyone of you while we were proclaiming God s Good News to you. Another reason why we constantly thank God for you is that as soon as you heard the message that we brought you as God s message, you accepted it for what it really is, God s message and not some human thinking; and it is still a living power among you who believe it. 8 Gospel Priest: The Lord be with you. People: And with you spirit. Priest: A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew 22:36-40 People: Glory to you, O Lord. Addressing the people and his disciples Jesus said, The scribes and the Pharisees occupy the chair of Moses. You must therefore do what they tell you and listen to what they say; but do not be guided by what they do: since they do not practice what they preach. They tie up heavy burdens and lay them on men s shoulders, but will they lift a finger to move them? Not they! Everything they do is done to attract attention, like wearing broader phylacteries and longer tassles, like wanting to take the place of honour at banquets and the front seats in the synagogues, being greeted obsequiously in the market squares and having people call them Rabbi. You, however, must not allow yourselves to be called Rabbi, since you have only one Master, and you are all brothers. You must call no one on earth your father, since you have only one Father, and he is in heaven. Nor must you allow yourselves to be called teachers, for you have only one Teacher, the Christ. The greatest among you must be your servant. Anyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and anyone who humbles himself will be exalted. This is the Gospel of the Lord. 9 Renewal of Marriage Vows Priest: (Addressing the couple) Dearly beloved, Robert and Beth, you stand here today before the Lord to give him thanks for having shown you his love in a very special way when he blessed and consecrated your love on the day of your marriage. Assuring you that he stands by your side in your every need, he entrusted the success of your married life to you as a task and a gift. You thank him now for all these years of shared joys, sacrifices and hopes, as well as sorrows and struggles which are always part of life. You still need him now, that you may continue on the way of love and loyalty which must go on growing. This Christian community rejoices with you and asks the Lord, together with you, to bless you and keep you in his love. Priest: (addressing the community) May I ask you, dear brothers and sisters, to join Robert and Beth in giving thanks to the Lord for his goodness and his faithful love, and in praying that they may continue to find happiness in each other and bear abundant fruits together living in God s love. Priest: (Addressing the husband) Robert, do you reaffirm your married love and fidelity to Beth before God and this community? Robert: Yes, I do. Priest: (addressing the wife) Beth, do you reaffirm your married love and fidelity to Robert before God and this community? Beth: Yes, I do.

10 Blessing of the Arrhae The Priest blesses the arrhae and hands them to Robert Robert: Beth, accept these arrhae, symbol of my continuing commitment to look after you and provide for you for as long as we both shall live. Beth: And I accept them, promising also to take care of you for the rest of our years. Priest: (Addressing the couple) Please pray together your prayer for God s blessing. Couple: (Robert and Beth) Lord God, whose name is love, once you made our ways meet and called us to found a home and a family. And we did. With your help and providential care. We now lift up to you today our three wonderful children, who warm our hearts. We look back with gratitude at our parents, at the years you have given us together. Years bound by happiness and tears, But always held together by your presence and your will. Help us to avoid the mistakes of the past, and to reach out more to the poor. Most of all, help us that none of those you have given to us, may be lost. Sustain our love with your love that, with ever growing unity of heart and soul, we may reach together, with our your unending marriage feast in heaven. Bless this our supplication and hope. Amen. Priest: Our help is in the name of the Lord, People: Who made heaven and earth. Priest: May the Lord God confirm once more the vows which you have renewed before him and before the Church which I and this community represent. And may almighty God bless you now and continue blessing your union, the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

11 Prayers of the Faithful Priest: Let us pray to God who is the Father of all that lives and say: Lord hear your people. Gabriel: For my Papa Robert and Mama Beth who celebrate today with gratitude the remembrance of twenty-five years of joys and sorrows they have shared in their life together, that they may grow in love and in grace as they grow in age, and that they may be a blessing to each other all the days of their lives, let us pray to the Lord. People: Lord, hear our prayer. Gabriel: For our family, relatives and friends, that we may give comfort to one another find happiness in life and enjoy good health, let us pray to the Lord. Gabriel: For all people, that they may be holy; for children, that they may be happy and obedient to their parents; for daddies and mommies that they may show us Jesus and teach us how to pray, let us pray to the Lord. Bettina: For sons and daughters, that they may not be afraid to make commitments to the Lord and to do good to others, especially the needy ones; that they may never give up their dreams for a better world, let us pray to the Lord.

12 Bettina: For all married couples may they have the courage to show with their lives, to their children and to the world, the family as the future of society, let us pray to the Lord. Bettina: For Papa and Mama, may they remain happy and steadfast in their hope that all things will be well because God s love never ends, let us pray to the Lord. Bianca: For our loved ones whom we miss today and who would have enjoyed our celebration, but have gone ahead to the Father s house, may they live in God s peace, let us pray to the Lord. Bianca: For all those preparing for marriage, that they may enrich each other and resolve to keep their marriage vows, remembering always that they need Jesus to be happy let us pray to the Lord. Bianca: For parenthood, that husbands and wives may cherish it as an original gift from God, and look upon their children in the way Mary looked at her Son, let us pray to the Lord. Priest: Lord God, all human aspirations and strivings need you to attain their goal. Do not abandon us to ourselves and be gentle with us when we fall. This we ask in the name of Jesus Christ, Your Son our Lord, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Commentator: Please be seated.

13 LITURGY OF THE EUCHARIST Offering of the Gifts Prayer Over The Gifts Priest: Lord, Accept the gifts we offer in thanksgiving for Robert and Beth. With trust in you and in each other they have shared life together. Hear their prayers and keep them in your peace. We ask this through Christ our Lord. People: Holy, holy, holy Lord Preface Priest: Father, all powerful and ever living God, we do well always and everywhere to give you thanks. You created man in love to share in your divine life. We see his high destiny in the love of husband and wife which bears the imprint of your own divine love. Love is man s origin. Love is his constant calling. Love is his fulfillment in heaven. The love of man and woman is made holy in the sacrament of marriage and becomes the mirror of your everlasting love. Through Christ, the choirs of angels and all the saints praise and worship your glory. May our voices blend with theirs as we join in their unending hymn of praise People: Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, Heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. Prayer After Communion Priest: Lord, as we gather at the table of your Son, bless Robert and Beth on their 25th wedding anniversary. Watch over them in the coming years and after a long and happy life together, bring them to the feast of eternal life. Grant this through Christ our Lord.

16 1 John 4:8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. Colossians 3:14 And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate. 1 Corinthians 13:4 8 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.
