To Know Christ and to make Christ known St. Paul s invites all people to the Christian Way of unity with God and neighbor through a welcoming environment of worship and ministry Please enter the church in silence so that all may have quiet time to prepare hearts and minds for worship. The Holy Eucharist Voluntary Introit Crossing the Bar C. H. H. Parry Sunset and ev ning star, and one clear call for me! And may there be no moaning of the bar, when I put out to sea, but such a tide as moving seems asleep, too full for sound and foam, when that which drew from out the boundless deep turns again home. Twilight and ev ning bell, and after that the dark! And may there be no sadness of farewell, when I embark; for tho from out our bourne of time and place the flood may bear me far, I hope to see my pilot face to face when I have crost the bar. The Word of God Processional For all the saints, who from their labors rest Hymnal 287, verses 1-2 (Hymn resumes at verse 3 after the station) Station at the Baptismal Font Celebrant: Let the righteous rejoice in the presence of God: People: Let them be merry and joyful. Celebrant: Let us pray: O God, the King of saints, we praise and glorify your holy Name for all your servants who have finished their course in your faith and fear: for the blessed Virgin Mary; blessed Paul our patron, for the holy patriarchs, prophets, apostles, and martyrs; and for all your other righteous servants, known to us and unknown; and we pray that, encouraged by their examples, aided by their prayers, and strengthened by their fellowship, we also may be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light; through the merits of your Son Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Procession of All Saints Banners Hymnal 287, verses 3, 4, 7 & 8 The banners are in remembrance of St. Paul s members who have died in the past year. Reading of the Necrology The Celebrant says to the people: Book of Common Prayer 355 Blessed be God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. People: And blessed be God s kingdom, now and forever. Amen. 3

Celebrant and People Almighty God, to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are hid: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy Name; through Christ our Lord. Amen. Song of Praise Canticle 13 Hymnal S236 1 Glory to you, Lord God of our fathers; you are worthy of praise; glory to you. 2 Glory to you for the radiance of your holy Name; we will praise you and highly exalt you for ever. 3 Glory to you in the splendor of your temple; on the throne of your majesty, glory to you. 4 Glory to you, seated between the Cherubim; we will praise you and highly exalt you for ever. 5 Glory to you, beholding the depths; in the high vault of heaven, glory to you. 6 Glory to you, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; we will praise you and highly exalt you for ever. The Collect of the Day BCP 235 The Celebrant says to the people: The Lord be with you. People: And also with you. Celebrant: Let us pray. Almighty God, you have knit together your elect in one communion and fellowship in the mystical body of your Son Christ our Lord: Give us grace so to follow your blessed saints in all virtuous and godly living, that we may come to those ineffable joys that you have prepared for those who truly love you; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, in glory everlasting. Amen. (The people may be seated.) A Reading from the Wisdom of Solomon (3:1-9) The souls of the righteous are in the hand of God, and no torment will ever touch them. In the eyes of the foolish they seemed to have died, 4

and their departure was thought to be a disaster, and their going from us to be their destruction; but they are at peace. For though in the sight of others they were punished, their hope is full of immortality. Having been disciplined a little, they will receive great good, because God tested them and found them worthy of himself; like gold in the furnace he tried them, and like a sacrificial burnt offering he accepted them. In the time of their visitation they will shine forth, and will run like sparks through the stubble. They will govern nations and rule over peoples, and the Lord will reign over them forever. Those who trust in him will understand truth, and the faithful will abide with him in love, because grace and mercy are upon his holy ones, and he watches over his elect. Reader The Word of the Lord. People Thanks be to God. (Silence for reflection upon the reading.) Psalm 24 (Antiphon: choir and congregation, verses of the Psalm sung by the choir) BCP 613 ANTIPHON 1 The earth is the LORD's and all that is in it, * the world and all who dwell therein. 2 For it is he who founded it upon the seas * and made it firm upon the rivers of the deep. ANTIPHON 3 "Who can ascend the hill of the LORD? " * and who can stand in his holy place?" 4 "Those who have clean hands and a pure heart, * 5

who have not pledged themselves to falsehood, nor sworn by what is a fraud. 5 They shall receive a blessing from the LORD * and a just reward from the God of their salvation." 6 Such is the generation of those who seek him, * of those who seek your face, O God of Jacob. ANTIPHON 7 Lift up your heads, O gates; lift them high, O everlasting doors; * and the King of glory shall come in. 8 "Who is this King of glory?" * "The LORD, strong and mighty, the LORD, mighty in battle." 9 Lift up your heads, O gates; lift them high, O everlasting doors; * and the King of glory shall come in. 10 "Who is he, this King of glory?" * "The LORD of hosts, he is the King of glory." ANTIPHON A Reading from Revelation (21:1-6a) I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "See, the home of God is among mortals. He will dwell with them as their God; they will be his peoples, and God himself will be with them; he will wipe every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; mourning and crying and pain will be no more, for the first things have passed away." And the one who was seated on the throne said, "See, I am making all things new." Also he said, "Write this, for these words are trustworthy and true." Then he said to me, "It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end." Reader The Word of the Lord. People Thanks be to God. 6

Hymn to Announce the Gospel By all your saints still striving Hymnal 232 (2nd verse text assigned for All Saints Day) The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ According to John (11:32-44) People: Glory to you, Lord Christ. When Mary came where Jesus was and saw him, she knelt at his feet and said to him, "Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died." When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who came with her also weeping, he was greatly disturbed in spirit and deeply moved. He said, "Where have you laid him?" They said to him, "Lord, come and see." Jesus began to weep. So the Jews said, "See how he loved him!" But some of them said, "Could not he who opened the eyes of the blind man have kept this man from dying?" Then Jesus, again greatly disturbed, came to the tomb. It was a cave, and a stone was lying against it. Jesus said, "Take away the stone." Martha, the sister of the dead man, said to him, "Lord, already there is a stench because he has been dead four days." Jesus said to her, "Did I not tell you that if you believed, you would see the glory of God?" So they took away the stone. And Jesus looked upward and said, "Father, I thank you for having heard me. I knew that you always hear me, but I have said this for the sake of the crowd standing here, so that they may believe that you sent me." When he had said this, he cried with a loud voice, "Lazarus, come out!" The dead man came out, his hands and feet bound with strips of cloth, and his face wrapped in a cloth. Jesus said to them, "Unbind him, and let him go." Deacon: The Gospel of the Lord. People: Praise to you, Lord Christ. The Sermon 7 The Rev. Dena Whalen The Nicene Creed BCP 358 We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were

made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven; by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.
