3 Officiant and People Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Alleluia Officiant: Let us confess our sins against God and our neighbor. CONFESSION OF SIN Officiant and People Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen. A reading from the Letter of Paul to the Romans 9: 1 5 (LEM 1) I am speaking the truth in Christ-- I am not lying; my conscience confirms it by the Holy Spirit-- I have great sorrow and unceasing anguish in my heart. For I could wish that I myself were accursed and cut off from Christ for the sake of my own people, my kindred according to the flesh. They are Israelites, and to them belong the adoption, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the worship, and the promises; to them belong the patriarchs, and from them, according to the flesh, comes the Messiah, who is over all, God blessed forever. 7 Officiant: The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Matthew 14: People: Glory to you, Lord Christ. Jesus withdrew in a boat to a deserted place by himself. But when the crowds heard it, they followed him on foot from the towns. When he went ashore, he saw a great crowd; and he had compassion for them and cured their sick. When it was evening, the disciples came to him and said, "This is a deserted place, and the hour is now late; send the crowds away so that they may go into the villages and buy food for themselves." Jesus said to them, "They need not go away; you give them something to eat." They replied, "We have nothing here but five loaves and two fish." And he said, "Bring them here to me." Then he ordered the crowds to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish, he looked up to heaven, and blessed and broke the loaves, and gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds. And all ate and were filled; and they took up what was left over of the broken pieces, twelve baskets full. And those who ate were about five thousand men, besides women and children. THE HOMILY Mr. Art Taylor THE APOSTLES CREED LEM 1 and People together, all standing I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. 7

THE GENERAL THANKSGIVING Officiant and People together Almighty God, Father of all mercies, we your unworthy servants give you humble thanks for all your goodness and loving-kindness to us and to all whom you have made. We bless you for our creation, preservation, and all the blessings of this life; but above all for your immeasurable love in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ; for the means of grace, and for the hope of glory. 14 SUNDAY SCHOOL PRAYER O God, give me clean hands, clean words and clean thoughts. Help me to stand for the hard right against the easy wrong. Save me from habits that harm. Teach me to work as hard, and play as fair in thy sight alone as if the whole world saw. Forgive me when I am unkind, and help me to forgive those who are unkind to me. Keep me ready to help others at some cost to myself. Send me chances to do a little good every day, and so grow more like Christ. Amen. Supplies will be blessed during the August 24 th service. THRIFT SHOP. Take another look at that handsome mission oak table/desk in the corner of Dun Hall it s yours for $75! And watch for the book sale of the century coming soon - you can find that perfect volume at the shop. Swim stuff goes on sale, as do all things that plug in. We are available the 1 st and 3 rd Saturdays (9-1) and most Tuesdays from 10:00 AM 1:00 PM. OIL FUND. On the first Sunday of every month you can contribute toward the oil bill. Please utilize the envelopes labeled Oil Fund in the pews. THIS WEEK S HEALTH TIP. Building a Healthy Parish One Tip at a Time. August is National Vaccination Awareness Month. Many people are not up-to-date with their vaccinations. Some 15

16 vaccines need to be given more than once (booster) because they do not provide life-long protection. What should I do? Talk to your health care provider to be sure you and your family s vaccinations are up-to-date.
