Baptisms are celebrated Sunday s at 1:30 pm Marriage Registered parishioners should make arrangements at least nine months in advance. There are no Sunday weddings. Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (R.C.I.A.) The Rite of Initiation of Adults is available year round to anyone who wishes to inquire about our Faith, baptism, or completing their initiation as Roman Catholics with Eucharist and/or Confirmation. ONGE DIRECTOR OF RELIGIOUS EDUCATION The Religious Education Program wishes you a very Happy November! How quickly the school year goes! Catechists and students both have been busy with lessons and projects, and we are already preparing for First Penance. This is a perfect time to increase how often we pray with our children, and to redouble our prayers for the children who will be saying their First Confessions very soon. Prayer with and for those who prepare for the reception of a sacrament is especially powerful, and it can act almost like a multiplier for the graces that can be received. Regarding prayer, November is the month during which we remember our loved ones who have passed away. The two great celebrations that have just occurred, All Saints and All Souls, can serve as catalysts for a deepening of our Catholic spiritual practices. The Communion of Saints, to which we belong, extends beyond time and space to all those undergoing purification in Purgatory, and to all the saints in Heaven. Christ unites us all. So, we can invoke the intercession of - we can pray with - the saints in heaven who add their perfect prayers to our imperfect ones. We can pray for the holy souls in Purgatory who are, in a sense, preparing for the 'great sacrament' of seeing God face to face. This prayer is like a transcendent mirror of praying with and for our children preparing for First Penance. All of us, living and dead, are joined together in Christ as one body. November is the perfect month for all of us to improve our spiritual lives by entering into prayerful communion with one another and with the saints, all through Christ. May God always bless the people of St. Joseph's with joyful and loving communion. 3 RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS THE WALK YOUTH GROUP November 6 th : No Class. November 11 th : First Penance Mass and class, 9:00 a.m., Church. November 18 th : First Sacrament Mass. November 28 th : First Penance Celebration. Please continue to pray for all our Students who are in the First Sacrament program as they are learning about God s Love and Forgiveness. They will be making their First Penance on November 28 th. We offer K-8 th grade Faith Formation, our students receive 1 st Sacraments in 2 nd grade and Confirmation in 8 th grade. It is required for two years of faith formation prior to receiving a Sacrament. If your student is in Public school between the grades K-8 th please give us a call at or Stjosephre@sbcglobal.net All teens from 8 th to 12 th grades are welcomed to The WALK, St. Margaret Mary/St. Joseph Youth Group! We meet on Sundays from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Church Hall. These weekly get-togethers offer teens the opportunity to grow in their relationship with God and their Catholic faith, no matter where they are in their journey. Activities encourage fellowship and spiritual growth, serve the community and certainly provide for lots of fun, friendship, and laughter. So bring a friend, and let s give each other the opportunity to become friends along the way. On Sunday, November 11 th, all teens are invited to take part in the 11:30 a.m. Mass at St. Margaret Mary. There will be games and food to follow. CAN-DO COMPANY The Can-Do Company is for boys and girls in grades 5-8 and meets Sunday evenings from 6-8 p.m. in the Pastoral Center meeting room. Sunday, November 4 th : Meeting. PREPARATION FOR THE SACRAMENTS First Reconciliation/First Holy Communion and Confirmation preparation are 2-year programs. A student must be enrolled for 2 consecutive years to be eligible to receive a Sacrament. First Reconciliation/First Holy Communion preparation program is typically for First and Second Graders. Confirmation preparation is usually for 7 th and 8 th Graders. 6 SPONSOR CERTIFICATE GUIDELINES Our parish receives a number of requests for Sponsor Certificates from people who have been asked to be a Godparent at a Baptism or a Sponsor at a Confirmation. This certificate verifies that you are an active Catholic, a member of this parish and eligible for this honor. Being a Godparent or a Sponsor is not just a family or social relationship, as important as these may be. It is a profound spiritual responsibility which entails witness and commitment and there are several requirements: The Godparent/Sponsor is to be at least sixteen years old. He/she is to have received the Sacraments of Baptism, Communion, and Confirmation. If married, the Sponsor/Godparent must have been married according to the laws of the Church. For the Pastor to issue a Sponsor Certificate: You are a currently registered member of the parish. You worship here regularly. You are requesting the Sponsor Certificate yourself; please do not ask a parent, spouse or another person to do this for you.
