1 December 24, 2015 Christmas Eve Christmas Pageant and Holy Eucharist: Rite II 5 p.m. CHRISTMAS PAGEANT The Christmas Story in Scripture and Song Silent night, holy night! All is calm, all is bright Round yon virgin mother and child, Holy Infant so tender and mild, Sleep in heavenly peace, Sleep in heavenly peace. SILENT NIGHT AWAY IN A MANGER Away in a manger, no crib for a bed, The little Lord Jesus laid down His sweet head; The stars in the bright sky looked down where He lay, The little Lord Jesus, asleep on the hay. The cattle are lowing, the Baby awakes, But little Lord Jesus, no crying He makes; I love Thee, Lord Jesus, look down from the sky, And stay by my cradle till morning is nigh.

2 Joseph: Be near me, Lord Jesus, I ask Thee to stay Close by me forever, and love me, I pray; Bless all the dear children in Thy tender care, And fit us for Heaven to live with Thee there. Mary: ROCKING Baby Jesus, hush now sleep, On soft wool your slumber keep. I will rock you, rock you, rock you; in my love I ll hold you, rock you Hush-a-by my little one, Mary s baby, God s own son. Jesus our brother, kind and good, was humbly born in a stable rude, And the friendly beasts around him stood; Jesus our brother, kind and good. Donkey: I, said the donkey, shaggy and brown, I carried his mother up hill and down. I carried his mother to Bethlehem town. I said the donkey, shaggy and brown. I, said the cow, all white and red. I gave Him my manger for his bed. I gave Him my hay to pillow his head I, said the cow, all white and red. I, said the sheep with curly horn I gave Him my wool for His blanket warm. He wore my coat on Christmas morn I, said the sheep with curly horn. I said the dove, from the rafters high I cooed Him to sleep so He would not cry we cooed Him to sleep, my love and I I said the dove, from the rafters high. Thus ev ry beast by some good spell in the stable dark was glad to tell Of the gift he gave Emmanuel, the gift he gave Emmanuel. While shepherds watched their flocks by night, all seated on the ground, the angel of the Lord came down, and glory shone around. THE FRIENDLY BEASTS WHILE THE SHEPHERDS WATCHED

The people stand or kneel as the Celebrant gives thanks to God for the reconciling work of Christ through his passion and resurrection and prays over the bread and wine. The Celebrant continues: We give thanks to you, O God, for the goodness and love which you have made known to us in creation; in the calling of Israel to be your people; in your Word spoken through the prophets; and above all in the Word made flesh, Jesus, your Son. For in these last days you sent him to incarnate from the Virgin Mary, to be the Savior and Redeemer of the world. In him, you have delivered us from evil, and made us worthy to stand before you. In him, you have brought us out of error into truth, out of sin into righteousness, out of death into life. At the following words concerning the bread, the Celebrant is to hold it, or lay a hand upon it; and at the words concerning the cup, to hold or place a hand upon the cup and any other vessel containing wine to be consecrated.

6 On the night before he died for us, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and when he had given thanks to you, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, and said, Take, eat: This is my Body, which is given for you. Do this for the rememberance of me. After supper he took the cup of wine; and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and said, Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the new Convenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me. Therefore, according to his comman, O Father, Celebrant and People We remember his death, We proclaim his resurrection, We await his coming in glory; The Celebrant continues: And we offer our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving to you, O Lord of all; presenting to you, from your creation, this bread and this wine. We pray you, gracious God, to send your Holy Spirit upon these gifts that they may be the Sacrament of the Body of Christ and his Blood of the new Covenant. Unite us to your Son in his sacrifice, that we may be acceptable through him, being sanctified by the Holy Spirit. In the fullness of time, put all things in subjection under your Christ, and bring us to that heavenly country where, with all your saints, we may enter the everlasting heritage of your sons and daughters; through Jesus Christ our Lord, the firstborn of all creation, the head of the Church, and the author of our salvation. By him, and with him, and in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit all honor and glory is yours, Almighty Father, now and for ever, AMEN. THE BREAKING OF THE BREAD Book of Common Prayer, p. 364 After the Celebrant breaks the consecrated bread, silence is kept. Christ our Passover is sacrified for us; Therefore let us keep the feast. The Celebrant and deacons receive the Sacrament in both kinds, and then offer them to the people. Baptized Christians of all ages and denominations are invited to the Lord s Table. Kneel or stand at the rail, as you are able, receiving the bread in the palm of your hand. Receive the wine by drinking from the cup or by touching the bread lightly to the wine. Those not receiving the Sacrament are invited to cross their arms upon their chests as a sign to the priest to give a blessing. The Celebrant says the following Invitation: The Gifts of God for the People of God.
