1 Condensed Torma Offering Ritual for All the Samaya-Bound OṂ SIDDHIR ASTU To the inseparable supreme guru, yidam deity, And ocean-like assembly of samara-bound, I prostrate. This condensed torma-offering liturgy, which pleases them, I compose for the sake of worthy beginners. In a place harmonious to the mind, those desiring to perform a torma offering to all the samayabound should beautifully arrange representations, offerings pleasing to their eyes, and so forth. In three torma vessels arrange ornamented tormas for the guru and yidam combined, all the wisdom samaya-bound mahākālas, and the terma protectors and local deities, as well as amṛita, rakta, and the outer offerings. In front of oneself are placed the inner offering, vajra and ghaṇtā, skull drum, flowers, and so forth all the necessary articles. Having already practiced up through the mantra recitation for the yoga of the self, 1 cleanse and purify the offerings and tormas with: RAṂ YAṂ KHAṂ From within emptiness, from YAṂ is wind; from RAṂ is fire; from KAṂ s is a hearth of three human skulls. On them, from the syllable A, arises a skull vessel, which contains all the essences: HŪṂ OṂ SVĀ AṂ HAḤ and MŪṂ LĀṂ MĀṂ PĀṂ TĀṂ. These become the five amṛitas and five lamps, each marked with its seed syllable. From below, the wind stirs, the fire blazes, and all the substances melt and mix. In the space above are the three syllables, OṂ ĀḤ HŪṂ. From these, light rays stream out and draw out jñāna-amṛita from the heart centers of all the tathāgatas. It dissolves into the three syllables, which melt step-by-step and become of one taste with the samaya substance. Visualize that. Raising the left hand, purify it with OṂ. Raising the right, increase it with ĀḤ. Join the two hands; with HŪṂ, its color, fragrance, and taste are unparalleled. With the garuḍa mudrā: HOḤ, regarding it as undefiled amrita. Thus consecrate. OṂ ĀḤ HŪṂ HOḤ Then, the gathering of the guests: From HŪṂ in my heart center light rays stream out, like a flash of lightning, in the form of iron hooks, inviting into the space in front the glorious wisdom protectors and so 1 When performing this torma offering on its own, begin by practicing the Short Practice of Vajrakīlaya by Jamyang Khyentse Chökyi Lodrö. After the dissolution and re-arising as the deity, perform the Kīlaya Torma Offering from the Secret Pith Kīlaya (gsang thig phur pa) of Chokgyur Lingpa (English translation by Nālandā Translation Committee), then commence with this Mindroling Damchen Chitor. 1

2 forth all the male and female samaya-bound together with their retinue of attendants. From self-existing dharmadhātu appears a great arrangement of inconceivable emanations appearing in the many aspects of peaceful and wrathful ones, the miraculous play: VAJRASAMĀJAḤ With that, think that they are invited. HŪṂ From the space of purity, which is like the sky of dharmadhātu, The realm of joy, immovable Akaniṣhṭha, Vajrāsana and Nālandā, The eight charnel grounds, the twenty-four sacred regions, And the universe of buddha fields of the ten directions, The glorious male and female protectors, Together with an ocean of samaya-bound attendants, We invite with faith. According to your previous vow, Please approach in order to protect the teachings. OṂ SHRĪ VAJRA-DHARMAPĀLA-SAPARIVĀRA VAJRASAMĀJAḤ With that they are invited. HŪṂ Samaya-bound who protect the teachings Of all the buddhas of the three times, Together with your retinues of male and female attendants, Please be seated here comfortably. JAḤ HŪṂ BAṂ HOḤ SAMAYA-ĀSANA TIṢHṬHANTU Thus request them to be seated. Visualize that a vajra is placed on the heads of the protectors and that they are given amṛita on their tongues. OṂ VAJRA-SAMAYA HANA HANA HŪṂ PHAṬ Thus place them in samaya. HŪṂ Clouds of ordinary and, in particular, unsurpassable Outer, inner, and secret offerings Those actually arranged and those arising from the mind Stream out, filling space. 2
