GOD INVITES YOU TO BECOME INVOLVED WITH HIM AND HIS WORK. 4. GOD SPEAKS BY THE HOLY SPIRIT THROUGH THE BIBLE, PRAYER, CIRCUMSTANCES, AND THE CHURCH TO REVEAL HIMSELF, HIS PURPOSE, AND HIS WAYS. 5. GOD S INVITATION FOR YOU TO WORK WITH HIM ALWAYS LEADS YOU TO A CRISIS OF BELIEF THAT REQUIRES FAITH AND ACTION. 6. YOU MUST MAKE MAJOR ADJUSTMENTS IN YOUR LIFE TO JOIN GOD IN WHAT HE IS DOING. 7. 5 LESSON INTRODUCTION WHEN THINGS ARE NOT GOING YOUR WAY, DO YOU SOMETIMES FEEL THAT GOD DOES NOT LOVE YOU OR HAVE FORGOTTEN YOU? HOW MUCH BLAME DO YOU PLACE ON GOD AND QUESTION GOD S LOVE FOR YOU? DON T!!! SOMETIMES GOD S LOVE IS EXPRESSED DIFFERENTLY THAN WE WANT IT TO GOD S LOVE FOR YOU WILL NOT EVER CHANGE! IN THE DEATH AND RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST, GOD SHOULD HAD FOREVER CONVINCED US THAT HE LOVES US! NO MATTER WHAT YOUR CIRCUMSTANCES ARE, GOD S LOVE NEVER CHANGES. NEVER ALLOW YOUR HEART TO QUESTION GOD S LOVE ASK GOD TO EXPLAIN WHAT IS HAPPENING WHEN THINGS ARE NOT GOING YOUR WAY God is always at work around you. He has been pursuing you in that love relationship. Every encounter He has with you is an expression of His love for you. 5
6 CREATED FOR A LOVE RELATIONSHIP A LOVE RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN ANY OTHER SINGLE FACTOR IN YOUR LIFE. GOD TAKES THE INITIATIVE TO BRING YOU INTO THIS RELATIONSHIP. GOD CREATED US FOR FELLOWSHIP WITH HIMSELF. OUR RESPONSE SHOULD BE LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND. THIS IS THE FIRST AND GREATEST COMMANDMENT. AND THE SECOND IS LIKE IT: LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF. (MATT 22:37-39 (NIV)) QUESTION: CAN WE DESCRIBE OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD BY SINCERELY SAYING I LOVE YOU WITH ALL MY HEART? OUR CHRISTIAN LIVES DEPENDS ON THE QUALITY OF OUR LOVE RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD. EVERYTHING GOD SAYS AND DOES IS AN EXPRESSION OF LOVE Everything in your Christian life, everything about knowing Him and experiencing Him, everything about knowing His will depends on the quality of your love relationship with God. 6
7 A LOVE RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD TO BE LOVED BY GOD IS THE HIGHEST RELATIONSHIP, THE HIGHEST ACHIEVEMENT, AND THE HIGHEST POSITION IN LIFE IF YOUR LIFE IS TRULY GOD-CENTERED, THEN YOUR LIFE MUST BE PROPERLY RELATED TO GOD. LOVE IS A VERB AN ACTION WORD. WHEN GOD CALLS YOU TO DO, YOU WILL OBEY BECAUSE OF YOUR LOVE FOR HIM. EVERLASTING LOVE. GOD DID NOT CREATE US FOR A TIME; HE CREATED US FOR AN ETERNITY. OUR TIME ON EARTH PROVIDES THE OPPORTUNITY FOR US TO BECOME ACQUAINTED WITH HIM. IF YOU LIVE ONLY FOR TIME HERE AND NOW YOU WILL MISS THE ULTIMATE PURPOSE OF [YOUR] CREATION. WHOEVER FINDS THEIR LIFE WILL LOSE IT, AND WHOEVER LOSES THEIR LIFE FOR MY SAKE WILL FIND IT. MATT 10:39 (NIV) Begin orienting our lives to God s will. His purposes go far beyond time and into eternity. We need to make sure that we are investing our lives, time, and resources in things that will last, not in things that will pass way. Meditate on Matthew 6:19-34 tonight. 7
8 WALKING WITH GOD GOD CREATED THE FIRST MAN AND WOMAN, ADAM AND EVE, FOR A LOVE RELATIONSHIP WITH HIMSELF. GOD IS STILL PURSUING US TO HAVE A LOVE RELATIONSHIP. WHEN YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD IS RIGHT, YOU WILL WANT TO SPEND TIME WITH HIM. THE MORE TIME YOU SPEND WITH HIM, THE STRONGER THAT LOVE RELATIONSHIP GROWS. MOST PEOPLE DO NOT HAVE A SCHEDULING PROBLEM, THEY HAVE A LOVE PROBLEM MAKE THE PRIORITY IN YOUR LIFE TO LOVE GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART. CONDUCT A TIME AUDIT OF YOUR DAY SEE WHAT YOU DO WITH THE TIME GOD HAS GIVEN YOU The more you know God and experience His unfathomable love, the more you will love Him. You will want time alone with God because you love Him and enjoy His fellowship. 8
9 GOD PURSUES A LOVE RELATIONSHIP GOD ALWAYS TAKES THE INITIATIVE IN OUR LOVE RELATIONSHIP. THE WITNESS OF THE ENTIRE BIBLE TESTIFIES THAT GOD PURSUES US AND ORCHESTRATES WAYS FOR US TO EXPERIENCE HIM. IN OUR NATURAL HUMAN STATE, WE DO NOT SEEK GOD ON OUR OWN INITIATIVE. 2 PETER 3:9 INSTEAD HE IS PATIENT WITH YOU, NOT WANTING ANYONE TO PERISH, BUT EVERYONE TO COME TO REPENTANCE. (NIV) GOD HAS DRAWN US WITH CORDS OF LOVE WHEN WE WERE NOT HIS FRIENDS BUT HIS ENEMY. HE GAVE HIS OWN SON TO DIE FOR US. TO FIRMLY ANCHOR OUR EXPERIENCING GOD AND KNOWING HIS WILL, WE MUST BE ABSOLUTELY CONVINCED OF GOD S LOVE FOR US. When we responded to His invitation, He brought us into a love relationship with Himself. We would never know that love, be in the presence of that love, or experience that love if God had not first reached out to us. 9
10 A REAL, PERSONAL, PRACTICAL RELATIONSHIP FROM GENESIS TO REVELATIONS, WE SEE GOD RELATING TO PEOPLE IN REAL, PERSONAL, INTIMATE AND PRACTICAL WAYS. GOD HAS NOT CHANGED. OUR LIVES CAN ALSO REFLECT A REAL, PERSONAL AND PRACTICAL RELATIONSHIP AS WE RESPOND TO GOD S WORK IN OUR LIVES. GOD IS AN EXTREMELY REALISTIC GOD. YOU CAN TRUST GOD TO BE PRACTICAL AND REAL AS HE RELATES TO YOU. GOD S CONSTANT PRESENCE IS THE MOST PRACTICAL PART OF OUR LIVES AND MINISTRY. UNFORTUNATELY, WE OFTEN ASSIGN GOD A LIMITED ROLE IN OUR LIVES. God can make a significant difference in our relationships in our families, our church, and other people. We can encounter God in such a way that we know we are experiencing Him. 10
