CLASS OF 88 Springfield College 30th Reunion Save the date We want you there! June 7-10, 2018 ***************** Please join us YOU will make our reunion great! Where to stay Our class has reserved a block of rooms at the Hilton Garden in Springfield. It is located at 800 Hall of Fame Ave. Call and be sure to ask for the Springfield College Reunion 2018 block rate ($149 per night). This rate expires 5/3/18 so plan accordingly. Need more info? Contact the SC Alumni Office: Dear Classmates I was in Houston last week on business and ran into a former colleague that I haven t seen in 10 years. I was shocked that it had been that long. How is it possible that we are going to celebrate our 30 th Reunion this June??? I don t know about you all, but I can t wrap my brain around that fact well, that is until I look in the mirror and see reality staring back at me or when my kids make fun of my technological challenges! This summer I will begin college touring with my daughter. I can t help but think back to when I was visiting and applying to schools. Springfield College was the only choice for me. One visit and tour of the campus and I just knew. It was home, and you became my family. Like any great family we put the fun in dysfunctional! The parties, late night study sessions, typing papers in the lounge until the sun came up, BC Beach in March, alumni@springfield.edu Class of 1988 Newsletter Page 1
Reunion News March 15, 2018 getting ready for spring break, working at the BC desk, Theodores on Thursdays, Halloween, sledding on Cheney trays behind Alumni Hall there s too many to list them all. Thank goodness social media didn t exist when we were in college I would never be able to explain half of what we did and how we survived it to my children! What do you remember? I remember when the ball went between Bill Buckner s legs and the Sox lost to the Mets! I threw my Red Sox hat and t shirt out the window of Lakeside Hall and was in baseball therapy from that day until the Cubs finally won the World Series. I stood with my kids in a crowd of 5 million and celebrated my recovery! Tim (Birdman) Harwood Think I m goin down to The Well tonight Every time I hear the song, I think of SC. Every time! Paula Miller I remember being Class President our Freshman year with 12 females on our board. Talk about intimidating to a guy starting college! But they were fantastic and together I think we got our class off to a great start. David RD Boss I remember our Senior Week trip to Boston for a cruise it poured the entire time! Parties on Eastern Avenue, relaxation class, hours spent in front of the BC Fitness swimming class where the exam was to swim 1 mile I wish I could do that now! Freshman camp, making our own food around the camp fire. My all time favorite memory is the oatmeal toss sophomore year! Linda Carignan Lots of life has happened to all of us these past 30 years. I can t wait to catch up and hear about yours. Please mark your calendars, save your pennies, find your beanies and join us on campus in June. I know we will pick up where we left off, laugh until we cry, hug like we never want to let go and party like we were still in college! The reunion team is putting together some great events to allow us time to reconnect, hang out on campus, and relive our glory days. You don t want to miss this time together. Let us know what you want to see at reunion and we will do everything we can to accommodate your requests. me at kmorgan@azdellmorgan.com with your ideas or just to reconnect. In spirit, mind, and body, Kristin aka Pebs Lots of life has happened to all of us these past 30 years. I can t wait to catch up and hear about yours. Class of 1988 Newsletter Page 2
Feel the love again! Looking back at our 25th Reunion, all I can do is smile. Our class outwardly demonstrates some very special qualities joy, friendship, love What makes us such a special group of triangles? Perhaps it was all the crazy fun we shared. Maybe it was the emotional challenges we endured together. Maybe it was the academic struggles we helped each other through. It s all that and more! We are one heck of a group no doubt! It was absolutely beautiful to see so many classmates back together as if time had never passed. I can t really pinpoint one specific perfect moment from our 25th Reunion. It was a parade of perfect moments. Seeing the reactions of classmates who d ventured back to campus for the first time wow! Watching the hugs, hand holding, laughter, tears. It wasn t just a bunch of small talk taking place. It was deep re connection to people who have influenced our lives. We won t be able to recreate those moments not those from our days at SC nor from our 25th. They are priceless memories. But we will be able to create new, amazing moments at our 30th! The team has begun to rally. We are making plans and we want you to be a part of it! If you have ideas for our 30th Reunion, please reach out to the Alumni Office (alumni@springfield.edu) or me directly (paulamiller001@gmail.com). I can t wait to see you! Paula Newsletter Page 3
Reunion News March 15, 2018 I m sure you can relate....in my mind, I certainly do not feel like I am out of college 30 years, though it's darn true. I find myself daydreaming at work about soaking in all the camaraderie at the B.C. Benches or immediately playing some whiffle ball post Cheney Hall lunchtime scoping...i get excited pretending its Parents Weekend and all of us so proudly showing our families all things us, right? You felt as if you d matured? You were independent...the jubilation continues as I reflect on the cold hard winters walking up from Gulick and heading to class, the intramurals on turf late at night, ordering Quickies for "grinders" and make sure it's heated!, anticipating a keg party at the house after watching a SC baseball game when Kuch pitched and Hajji laid a perfect bunt, learning how to actually become independent as both a thinker and what it meant to be a Triangle...And digging deeper with a smile, I recollect on those nights, remember THOSE nights? The Toga Party, the skirmish at The Well, After Hours at The Bakery, Sti Yu Ka, Theodore's, Shannon's and the undercooked hot dogs outside, The Student Prince, Senior Picnic, The Cruise...Flashing faster the blur of graduation, the bonfire that night and then the s lo w trudge into real life. The 25 year comes to mind, too. Awesome. But it is really 30 years. My body sure looks different, my face has aged, my hair has disappeared. My connection with those people the ones I bonded with for four straight years that touch has waned. People grow apart and life happens marriage, kids, work, repeat. You move, they move. We move at different paces and the matching and cohesion evaporates. I hate it. I so wish I could be with everyone, all of the time, just "being" as they say. In my mind, and in reality, I can bring back the euphoria those four best consecutive years of my life, the absolute onslaught of love, debate and friendships. All renewed during another momentous weekend; June 7 9 at Springfield. Won't you join in our visual scrapbook of memories this year? PuffCandids from our 25th Newsletter Page 4
Thank you for giving! To all classmates who have donated to SC this year on Giving Day or any day THANK YOU! On Giving Day - March 7, our class placed 3rd in the participation competition. 48 gifts were received from 39 classmates and we are very close to meeting and exceeding our dollar goal of $30,000 join us in making a gift! Our other goal for our 30th Reunion year is 30% class giving participation. That means we need at least 150 classmates to give to SC by June 30th. Will you help us reach our goal? There are several ways to give Call the SC Development Office at (800) Give online at Mail to: Springfield College Office of Development 263 Alden Street Springfield, MA (Remember to indicate your graduating class 1988 on your donation.)
