2 Helena Petrovna Hahn (also Hélène) July 31, May 8, 1891, better known as Helena Blavatsky (Russian: Елена Блаватская) or Madame Blavatsky, born Helena von Hahn, was a founder of the Theosophical Society. Biography Early years She was born in the house of her mother's parents in Ekaterinoslav (now Dnipropetrovsk), Ukraine (then part of the Russian Empire). Her parents were Col. Peter von Hahn, a German officer in Russian service, and Helena Andreyevna Fadeyeva. Her mother belonged to an old Russian noble family and was the author, under the pen-name Zenaida R, of a dozen novels. Described by Belinsky as the "Russian George Sand", she died at the age of 28, when Helena was eleven. Upon his wife's death, Peter, being in the armed forces and realizing that army camps were unsuitable for little girls, sent Helena and her brother to live with her maternal grandparents. They were Andrey Fadeyev (at that time the Civil Governor of Saratov) and his wife Princess Helene Dolgoruki, of the Dolgorukov family and an amateur botanist. Helena was cared for by servants who believed in the many superstitions of Old Russia and apparently encouraged her to believe she had supernatural powers at a very early age. Her grandparents lived on a feudal estate, with never less than fifty servants. First marriage She was married three weeks before she turned seventeen, on July 7, 1848, to the fortyyear old Nikifor (also Nicephor) Vassilievitch Blavatsky, vice-governor of Erivan. After three unhappy months, she took a horse, and escaped back over the mountains to her grandfather in Tiflis. Her grandfather shipped her off immediately to her father who was retired and living near Saint Petersburg. He travelled two thousand miles to meet her at Odessa, but she wasn't there. She had missed the steamer, and sailed away with the skipper of an English bark bound for Constantinople. According to her account, they never consummated their marriage, and she remained a virgin her entire life. (For a counter-claim, see the section on Agardi Metrovitch.) Wandering years According to her own story as told to a later biographer, she spent the years 1848 to 1858 traveling the world, claiming to have visited Egypt, France, Quebec, England, South America, Germany, Mexico, India, Greece and especially Tibet to study for two years with the men she called Brothers. She returned to Russia in 1858 and went first to see her sister Vera, a young widow living in Rugodevo, a village which she had inherited from her husband. Agardi Metrovitch About this time, she met and left with Italian opera singer Agardi Metrovich. Some sources say that she had several extramarital affairs, became pregnant, and bore a deformed child, Yuri, whom she loved dearly. She wrote that Yuri was a child of her friends the Metroviches (C.W.I p. xlvi-ii, HPB TO APS p. 147). To balance this statement, Count Witte, her first cousin on her mother's side, stated in his Memoirs (as quoted by G. Williams), that her father read aloud a letter in which Metrovich signed himself as "your affectionate grandson". This is evidence that Metrovich considered himself Helena's husband at this point. Yuri died at the age of five, and Helena said that she ceased to believe in the Russian Orthodox God at this point.

3 Two different versions of how Agardi died are extant. In one, G. Williams states that Agardi had been taken sick with a fever and delirium in Ramleh, and that he died in bed April 19, In the second version, while bound for Cairo on a boat, the 'Evmonia', in 1871, an explosion claimed Agardi s life, but H.P. Blavatsky continued on to Cairo herself. While in Cairo she formed the Societe Spirite for occult phenomena with Emma Cutting (later Emma Coulomb), which closed after dissatisfied customers complained of fraudulent activities. Mme. Blavatsky and Henry Steel Olcott, a lawyer, agricultural expert, and journalist who covered the Spiritualist phenomena. To New York It was in 1873 that she emigrated to New York City. Impressing people with her evident psychic abilities she was spurred on to continue her mediumship. Throughout her career she demonstrated physical and mental psychic feats which included levitation, clairvoyance, out-of-body projection, telepathy, and clairaudience. One new skill of hers was materialization, that is, producing physical objects out of nothing. Though she was apparently quite adept at these accomplishments, she claimed that her interests were more in the area of theory and laws of how they work rather than performing them herself. In 1874 at the farm of the Eddy Brothers, Helena met Henry Steel Olcott, a lawyer, agricultural expert, and journalist who covered the Spiritualist phenomena. Soon they were living together in the "Lamasery" (alternate spelling: "Lamastery") where her work Isis Unveiled was created. She married her second husband, Michael C. Betanelly on April 3, 1875 in New York City. She maintained that this marriage was not consummated either. She separated from Betanelly after a few months, and their divorce was legalized on May 25, On July 8, 1878, she became a naturalized citizen of the United States. Foundation of Theosophical Society While living in New York City, she founded the Theosophical Society in September 1875, with Henry Steel Olcott, William Quan Judge and others. Madame Blavatsky claimed that all religions were both true in their inner teachings and false or imperfect in their external conventional manifestations. Imperfect men attempting to translate the divine knowledge had corrupted it in the translation. Her claim that esoteric spiritual knowledge is consistent with new science may be considered to be the first instance of what is now called New Age thinking. In fact, many researchers feel that much of New Age thought started with Blavatsky. To India She had moved to India, landing at Bombay Feb , where she first made the acquaintaince of A.P. Sinnett. In his book Occult World he describes how she stayed at his home in Allahabad for six weeks that year, and again the following year. Sometime around Dec 1880, while at a dinner party with a group including A.O. Hume and his wife, she is stated to have been instrumental in causing the materialization of Mrs Hume's lost brooch.

4 By 1882 the Theosophical Society became an international organization, and it was at this time that she moved the headquarters to Adyar near Madras, India. The society headquartered here for some time, but she later went to Germany for a while and finally to England. A disciple put her up in her own house in England and it was here that she lived until the end of her life. Final years In August, 1890 she formed the "Inner Circle" of 12 disciples: "Countess Constance Wachtmeister, Mrs Isabel Cooper-Oakley, Miss Emily Kislingbury, Miss Laura Cooper, Mrs Annie Besant, Mrs Alice Cleather, Dr Archibald Keightley, Herbert Coryn, Claude Wright, G.R.S. Mead, E.T. Sturdy, and Walter Old". Suffering from heart disease, rheumatism, Bright's disease of the kidneys, and complications from influenza, Madame Helena Petrovna Blavatsky died at 19 Avenue Road, St Johns Wood, London the home she shared, in England on May 8, Her last words in regard to her work were: "Keep the link unbroken! Do not let my last incarnation be a failure." Her body was cremated; one third of her ashes were sent to Europe, one third with William Quan Judge to the United States, and one third to India where her ashes were scattered in the Ganges River. May 8 is celebrated by Theosophists, and it is called White Lotus Day. She was succeeded as head of one branch of the Theosophical Society by her protege, Annie Besant. Her friend, W.Q. Judge, headed the American Section.

5 Alice Ann Bailey Alice A. Bailey (16 June December 1949), writer and lecturer on Neo- Theosophy, was born in England in 1880 as Alice LaTrobe Bateman. She moved to America in 1907 where she spent the rest of her life. She was a prolific author on occultism and founded an international esoteric movement. Her writings gave rise to many aspects of contemporary New Age belief. Alice Ann Bailey was born in Manchester, England in She had a strong Christian education, and went on to do evangelical work in the British Army, which took her to India in 1907, where she met her future husband, Walter Evans. Together they moved to America, where W. Evans became an Episcopalian priest: but their life became harder and harder, and their marriage, after the birth of three daughters, ended in divorce. Some years later, she left the Society, but continued to recognise the importance of Madame Blavatsky's works in her life. Through her studies of Blavatsky's descriptions of esoteric Masters in Theosophy, Alice Bailey recognised the spiritual guide she believed had helped her from the age of fifteen as the Theosophical Master "Koot Humi" (also spelled Kuthumi). Later in 1919 she claimed to be in touch with another Master, Djwhal Khul, also known as The Tibetan.

6 This began Alice Bailey's writings, 24 books in which she and her claimed Tibetan Master illustrate a body of esoteric teachings relating to ancient wisdom, theosophical studies, religion, philosophy and contemporary events. She wrote the books between 1919 and In 1920 Alice Bailey married another theosophist, Foster Bailey, and in 1923 they founded the Arcane School to continue her teachings and form a school for the disciples of what they saw as the coming new Aquarian New Age. The school's mission was to teach students on how to further the Great Universal Plan, guided by the inner hierarchy of spiritual masters under Christ. At the end of her life, she began to write her autobiography. Although reluctant to celebrate herself, she agreed to write the book only to give others inspiration to follow their own spiritual paths. She died in 1949.

During illnesses, two very tall men would appear to her with help, but when the grownups objected to her accounts of them, she learned to keep her thoughts to herself. Her mother's sister, princess Putyatine, had an estate at Bologoye where little Helena spent her summers. All the domestic animals rushed to welcome her in the mornings when she would go out to feed them. When she met Nicholas Roerich, she found much in common with him and after accompanying him to many exhibitions and concerts, they fell in love and were married on October 28, Nicholas, one of the finest painters of his day, with an unparalleled command of color, was also very spiritually advanced. They had a happy family life together with their two sons, George and Svyatoslav. In 1915, Nicholas became ill with pneumonia and they left their home in Petersburg for a better climate to Karelia. In 1918 they went to England and in 1920 came to New York for Nicholas' first exhibition in the United States. By this time Helena was already in contact with Master Morya and soon thereafter the first Agni Yoga book: Leaves of Morya's Garden was written. During their eventful life, they went to India where they organized their central Asiatic expedition through India, China, Tibet, Mongolia and other countries. Both her husband Nicholas and son George wrote books about their adventures. Besides the thirteen published Agni Yoga books, she wrote numerous letters to disciples and aspirants all over the world. Some of these letters are published in her Letters of Helena Roerich, volumes I & II. She also wrote On Eastern Crossroads and Foundations of Buddhism, using different pseudonyms for each one. She translated Helena Blavatsky's book The Secret Doctrine into Russian. She was also one of the founders of the Agni Yoga Society in New York.

8 Guy Warren and Edna Wheeler-Ballard Guy Warren Ballard (July 28, December 29, 1939) was an American mining engineer who became, with his wife, Edna Anne Wheeler Ballard, the founder of the "I AM" Activity. Ballard was born in Burlington, Iowa and married his wife in Chicago in Ballard served in the U.S. Army in World War I, and then became a mining engineer. Both Edna and Guy studied theosophy and the occult extensively. Ballard visited Mt. Shasta, California in 1930, and reported that he encountered there another hiker who identified himself as St. Germain, who offered to tutor him in the wisdom of the Ascended Masters. St. Germain and other Ascended Masters, often gathered in huge hidden caverns within the larger North American mountains. Ballard provided details of his encounters within the caves in a series of books such as Unveiled Mysteries and The Magic Presence, using the pen name "Godfre Ray King." The I AM movement started from public lectures about these encounters and grew rapidly in the 1930s. Ballard lectured frequently in Chicago about St. Germain's mystical teachings, in which the great destiny of America played a key role. By 1938, there were claimed to be about a million followers in the United States. The "I AM" Activity represents the Original, Permanent, and Highest Source of the Ascended Masters' Instruction on the great Laws of Life, as first offered to the western world by the Ascended Master Saint Germain through His Accredited Messengers, Mr. and Mrs. Guy W. Ballard. The "I AM" Activity is spiritual, educational and practical. There are no financial schemes behind it; no admission is ever charged. It takes no political stance in any nation. The parent organization is Saint Germain Foundation, with worldwide headquarters located in Schaumburg, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. It is represented throughout the world by 300 local groups termed "I AM" Sanctuary, "I AM" Temple, "I AM" Study Groups, or "I AM" Reading Room. Saint Germain Foundation and its local activities are NOT affiliated with any other organization or persons. Ballard informed his wife of what had happened to him in a set of letters from Mt.

9 Shasta, and upon his return to Chicago, they founded the Saint Germain Foundation and Saint Germain Press. The teachings centered upon the announcement of the existence of and the evocation of the I AM Presence, the spirit of God in each individual. A series of mantric-like prayers called decrees were advocated as the means of such evocation. The I AM movement was one of the most successful, flamboyant, and controversial of the late 1930s. At its height, however, Ballard unexpectedly died on December 29, His death created an immediate problem as some expectation had spread through the movement that he would not die but physically ascend. Several years after his death his wife and son and many of the leaders of the movement were the subject of a landmark judicial process initiated by several ex-members who questioned the sincerity of the movement. The process resulted in a 1944 Supreme Court ruling which suggested that it was not legitimate for government to place a religion, no matter how nonconventional, on trial. Ballard, her husband and Twin Ray.

10 Geraldine Innocente Geraldine Innocente (September 29, June 21, 1961) was a Messenger for the Ascended Masters and the Cosmic Hierarchy during the limited dispensation of The Bridge to Freedom Activity. The co-founder of that organization was her mother, Mary Innocente, who Ascended on March 7, 1960, becoming the Ascended Lady Master Dawn. Her father, Gus Innocente, had been previously embodied as the one who helped Jesus to carry His cross. Mrs. Mary Innocente had a small group affiliated with The "I AM" Activity in the 1940's on Long Island, New York. One night in 1944, while Geraldine was sitting with her mother in front of the fireplace in their home, beloved Ascended Master El Morya came into the room and asked her to make a certain application on a daily basis. One year later, He returned asking if she would consent to receive a series of Discourses from the beloved Lord, the Maha Chohan. She agreed, and underwent years of training in preparation for her role in the 1950's. Beloved Geraldine officially served in the capacity of Messenger in The Bridge to Freedom Activity from the inaugural Vesta Dictation on July 17, 1951 until the transition from her physical body on June 21, Geraldine Innocente Ascended within hours of the passing from her physical body, which resulted from an accidental overdose of medications that she was taking for a health condition. She has Ascended and become One with Her BELOVED Mighty I AM Presence in the Victory of the Ascension. She is now an Ascended Lady Master - a part of the Ascended Hosts of Light.

Mark Lyle Prophet Marcus Lyle Prophet (December 24, 1918 - February 26, 1973) was an American born in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin.

11 Mark Lyle Prophet Marcus Lyle Prophet (December 24, February 26, 1973) was an American born in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. Mark was a mystic, a Messenger for the ascended masters and the late husband of Elizabeth Clare Prophet. When Mark was about 17, he was contacted by the Ascended Master El Morya. Because of his fundamentalist Christian upbringing, Mark sent the master away. Years later, Mark decided to pursue El Morya and the master resumed his contact with him. Between 1952 and 1958 Mark wrote down a series of letters from El Morya called Ashram Notes. These letters contain profound teaching and a series of rituals designed to help people raise their consciousness and reduce suffering throughout the world. August 7th 1957, Mark founded The Summit Lighthouse under El Morya's direction to publish the teachings of the ascended masters. He soon began publishing a weekly newsletter from the ascended masters called Pearls of Wisdom, which are still published today.

12 In 1961, Mark met Elizabeth Clare Wulf. Through Mark, El Morya began training her to be a Messenger. They were married in 1963 and had four children. (Earlier he was married to Phyllis and they gave birth to five children) The legacy of Mark Prophet's work is vast. He worked tirelessly to publish the teachings of the Ascended Masters and to lay the foundation for the continuation of this work by his wife. Starting in 1960, he held quarterly conferences to give messages, called dictations Addresses or Messages from the Ascended Masters, from the Ascended Masters and to explain their teachings. In 1961, he founded the Keepers of the Flame Fraternity under the direction of the Ascended Master Saint Germain. Between 1958 and 1973, Mark L. Prophet gave more than 1,000 Dictations from various Ascended Masters, Archangels and Cosmic Beings. On February 26, 1973, Mark Prophet made his transition. He reunited with God in the Ascension and is now known as the Ascended Master Lanello. In 1965, the fledgling organization relocated to Fairfax, Virginia, and in 1966 to Colorado Springs, Colorado. In 1970, the Prophets founded Montessori International, a school based on the principles of the acclaimed educator Dr. Maria Montessori. The name "Montessori International" was used by the Prophets for their church/community school, which at various times offered classes for students ranging from preschool age to high school. Although their preschool teachers were trained at official Montessori organizations such as the Association Montessori Internationale and the Pan-American Montessori Society, they were not officially associated with the Montessori umbrella organizations. And, in the elementary and high school levels, teachers were not Montessori certified. Also in 1970, Mark and Elizabeth mounted a pilgrimage to India with several dozen church members. They toured the country and met with Indira Gandhi as well as the Dalai Lama. In July 1972, the Prophets travelled to Ghana to meet with and address the large CUT congregation there (several thousand), which was led by Herbert Krakue. In September- October 1972, the Prophets again conducted a pilgrimage, this time to holy sites in the Middle East. In 1972, the first volume of Climb the Highest Mountain was published, a projected fivevolume work, which the Prophets intended to become their central scripture. On February 26, 1973, Mark Prophet died in Colorado Springs of a stroke. He reunited with God in the ritual of the ascension and is now known as the Ascended Master Lanello.

At the present time, the Ascended Masters have anointed Monroe and Carolyn Shearer as Their Messengers to the outside world. As with their predecessors in this Spiritual Office, Monroe and Carolyn have been preparing for this mission for several embodiments. After training separately in this lifetime, they were brought together in 1993 and received full Sponsorship from the Great White Brotherhood for their public service through The Temple of The Presence in May 1995, when the first Dictation was delivered through them - from Ascended Master Morya. The Ascended Masters El Morya and Saint Germain are principal Sponsors for The Temple of The Presence, together with the Lord Maha Chohan, Lord Maitreya, Gautama Buddha, and the Seven Holy Kumaras. The Messengers deliver Discourses and Dictations directly from the Masters who are Themselves present in Their Ascended Bodies. The Release of Light that takes place on these occasions surpasses all previous experience of those in attendance. Those who have been privileged to take part in the implementation of this new Dispensation have been blessed beyond measure by the Opportunity to work with our Ascended Brothers and Sisters and receive Their very Personal Instruction. The Ascended Masters have charged the Anointed Messengers with the responsibility to guard The Temple s Dispensation and to preserve it intact for future generations. Their office is to convey the Words and Radiation of the Ascended Masters as well as their Divine Direction to light bearers of all persuasions across the world. Serving as their public representatives, they are charged with preserving the Purity of the Teachings and ensuring the protection of all who would wholeheartedly embrace this work.
