ANANDA PURNIMA DHARMA MAHA SAMMELAN CELEBRATED AT ANANDANAGAR The Dharma Mahasammelan on the auspicious occasion of the most Beloved Baba's Birthday -more popularly known as Ananda Purnima DMS was celebrated at Anandanagar with utmost devotion and dedication on 18,19,20 May MGR, Ac. Kinshuk Ranjan Sarkar's Pravacans were simple -direct and devotional. His speeches reflected clarity and were touching the deep cores of hearts of devotees -who came in thousands overcoming several odds of traveling in hot summer, Apart from very inspiring Pravacans of Kinshukjii, the cultural program by Uma Nivas and RAWA team of Kolkata were simply enchanting. The biggest attraction was Chao dance on RU day. The BP and ACB meetings and all other meetings generated so much devotion and energy. The media coverage was very impressive. All newspapers -Bengali, Hindi and English published the news of DMS. Ananda Bazar Patrika, Bartaman, Hindustan, Prabhat Khabar, TOI, Jagaran, Aj -all printed news with prominent coverage 72 hour Akhanda kiirtan, the arrangments made for catering, drinking water supply -all were managed well. More than 4000 devotees attended. 7 unscheduled trains were given stoppage at Pundag from 17th May to 23rd May Morning Pravacan In this hot weather it is not easy to keep patience and listen to philosophy -So I start with a story. Once in heaven there was a meeting of gods and goddesses. Innumerable mortal being were waiting for this meeting to finish as gods and goddesses were to decide about several demands of the mortals -who were always in habit of asking this favour or that favour. There were different opinions. Some gods were saying give them what they ask and some were not in favour of it. The marathon meeting was going on hours together but there was no decision and so resolution could not be taken. Lord Indra, who was presiding over the meeting had some urgent work and so he was looking for some one who could preside over in his absence. Ultimately he gave the chair to Lord Shiva - who was always ready to oblige and he left. Lord Shiva did not enter into any controversy and asked the mortal beings to come one after the other and say what they have to say. The mortals were so happy. Lord Shiva gave every body's wish - whatever they wanted. Every body was so happy. While distributing alms -some thing fell down and no body cared to look at it. Parvati -Lord Shiva's spouse was very disturbed to see that Lord is giving every one their wish and now these people would never come to Lord as they have their wish. So she so expressed to Lord. Lord Shiva was laughing -He said Parvati, you do not worry. I gave them every thing they demanded - but I did not give them Peace -that is what has fallen down. No body 2

demanded peace. They ma y have every thing- but every human being needs peace and for that they will have to come to me. Parvati was now feeling at rest. Baba gave us every thing - all the systems, and directions and asked us to follow them. He said you follow this and you will achieve the Goal. But He did not give us peace. That has to be achieved through the systems He laid out for us to follow. But we lost the way and also lost the peace. He taught us Samgacchaddhvam...but we created differences - Hindi-Bengali, Dada- Didi, Indian-Non-Indian, Grhii_Sanyasi... Times of India printed Baba s article on 17 th May, 2012 with special mention of Ananda Purnima DMS at Ananda Nagar One very famous person interviewed dada Haratmananda on Prout and its founder. He is Mr. Harold Channer who has interviewed many world famous persons like dr buckminster fuller. Dr John Kenneth Galbrath, Dr. Cornel West, Gaddafi, Arafat etc. For 25 years. The program was telecast on live on Manhattan TV channel 34, for 49 minutes. The interview was simultaneously released on internet it was also uploaded on YouTube. Another interview of Haratmanandajii was telecast live on Thursday, 8th march, between 9.20 to 9.30 am [ New York time] & also at 8pm. It was also telecast on the Time Warner channel & other channels like & 33. Total 2 million people have watched this programme on Prout. Panel Discussion on Yoga and Meditation and Prout Baba made this great mission. He could have accomplished every thing by Himself. But He created mission and gave us responsibilities to fulfill the task. It was His grace that He gave us this duty. But we strayed. Since 2002 we lost our way. IN 2011 we created a new united organization. A new phase has started and we called on every body to join together - march together. But some people are attached to the old skeleton -the deadwood of divided house. That skeleton has no future. You should invite every body whenever you do any program. Follow the spirit of Samgacchaddhvam. More than 90% people will join you. Baba's grace is with this spirit of unity. We have to utilise our time. For Baba years has no meaning but for us mortals we are losing precious time. His work will certainly be done. Let us join His mission and work for it.this will bring fulfilment to our life. It will not go useless. Param Pita Baba Ki Joi. MR. HAROLD CHANNER INTERVIEWS HARATMANANDAJII ON PROUT Ananda Marga Protests against Bijan Setu Massacre On 1st May -recognized as International Labour Day -Manhatten TV station did telecast two shows -One on Prout and one on Yoga and Meditation. Everybody could watch it. In the PROUT session, the panelists were: Tapan [chair], Amit & Ambujika. The meditation and yoga panelists are - Dr. Pashupati, Dr. Ciranjiibi & Dada Haratmananda. This panel has been hosted by Dr. Padmini Biswas, assistant director, the Center for Place, Culture and Politics, City University New York Graduate Center. Thirty years before on 30th April 1982, CPM goons brutally killed 17 innocent Sannyasis and Sanyasini of Ananda Marga in broad day light in down town area of Bijan Setu. The conscience of proud people of Kolkata proud of their cultural richness - was shocked that day. We are bringing out a silent procession from Deshapriya Park to protest against this inhuman killings and this procession then converts into a homage paying meeting at Bijan Setu. 3

Since 2-3 years, with winds of Paribortan overwhelming the state of West Bengal, Civil society members conscience awakened and they joined this protest. This time our silent procession began exactly at 2.25 p.m. The procession was led by eminent members of civil society and central functionaries of Ananda Marga. Bharat Sanskriti Mancha a new socio-spiritual coordinating platform of different spiritual groups also joined the march with a few supporters. The procession reached Bijan Setu at 3.00 pm. During the procession of 5000 plus margiis and sympathizers, leaflets and booklets about Bijan Setu massacre were distributed in thousands. After arriving at Bijan Setu, the Shri Balai Chakraborty -a retired IAS(Indian Administrative Service) officer of West Bengal Secretariate; Sudip Das, convener of Bharat Sanskriti Mancha and central functionaries of Ananda Marga(GS, PRS and WWD Head) offered garlands to the 17 Dadhichis. This was followed by Shraddhanjali that included singing of the selected Prabhat Samgiita, Kiirtan and Sadhana followed by Gurupuja. After Shraddhanjali the respected members of civil society and Ac. Tryambakeshvarananda Avadhuta - a member of central committee of Ananda Marga expressed their protest against the inhuman killings. Ac. Tryambakeshvarananda Avadhuta said that this massacre of Ananda Margiis has been planned at the highest level because CPM was and is afraid of Prout (Progressive Utilization Theory ) the socioeconomic theory of Ananda Marga. The long standing demand of Ananda Marga Pracaraka Samgha that judicial inquiry into this massacre should be conducted by a Sitting Supreme Court Justice was reiterated in several speeches they said that as this conspiracy was hatched at very high level and the criminals who Inquiry into Bija Setu massacre On 2 nd March, 2012 the Government of West Bengal declared the formation of one man Inquiry commission chaired by retired Justice of Calcutta High court -Justice Santosh Kumar Foujdar. It is strange that, it has happened within two days of the Minister for Law Affairs indicated that the State Government is awaiting the Central Government s acceptance of their request to conduct an inquery in the matter by a Supreme Court Judge in accordance to the request of Ananda Margiis. We demand inquiry by Supreme Court Judge for two reasons: 1. Although the political leaders are changed, the bureaucracy is infected by CPM cadre. 2. As the top level leaders of CPM are involved in the crime, unless a very high level inquiry headed by Supreme Court Judge is ordered, the truth cannot come out. We stand by our demand, yet in the interest of unfolding the truth we have decided to cooperate with the enquiry ordered by the State Government. carried out this massacre - many of them have now shifted their loyalty to Trinamul Congress, it is difficult to expose the real culprits unless a very high level inquiry is conducted. He also said that AM will definitely cooperate with the inquiry that has been ordered by the State Government whenever it starts. The Samgha requested that those who are witness to the inhuman crime should come out boldly to give their statement before the inquiry commission. The media coverage was huge. Several channels showed this procession live. One Bengali channel organised panel discussion. We shall attach media coverage in next posting. 4

Prout Seminar on 8th April, 2012 The Prout Seminar held in the center of the city -Moulali Yuba Kendra proved one thing very clearly that now people are interested to know Prout. The 392 seat hall was overflowing and more than 50 margiis had to sit out of the hall for want of space. The welcome speech by Sugatanandajii, the Prout's solution to agrarian problems by Prof Pranav Chattopadhyaya, Cooperative movement and Prout by Prof. Bhaskar Purakayastha, Prout as solution of present economic crisis by Prof Dilip Haldar were all well thought and nicely presented. The best was Professor Dilip Haldar -his statement that communism was never existing and is not existing nor it will be there in future received standing ovation. He said that if human beings survive as human being, communism has no chance. Professor Dilip Haldar's made a bold statement about Communism. He said that everybody is aware that communism as economic theory has died. But the fact is communism never existed as an economy anywhere in the world. It was just an imagination. Communism never existed in the past, is not existing at present and will never come back. 6

SPRING RETREAT IN ITALY Spring retreat was held in Italy from 6th to 9th April at GBTC near Treviso, Italy this year. With the spirit of Samgacchadhvam mantra margiis came to the retreat from different parts of Europe, mainly from Norway and Italy. It was inspiring to see many new margiis together with senior margiis who made sincere effort to make the retreat spiritually vibrated with family feelings and devotion for Baba. Apart from Akhanda kiirtan, Sadhana Shivir, Baba s video and Baba Stories the classes on spiritual and social topics by the senior Acaryas and margiis were very nice. Presentations on healthy body and mind through asana and proper diet were impressive. Presentation of our service projects in Ananda Nagar touched the hearts of many. The cultural programme presented by the margiis and margii children was very subtle and enjoyed by all. All the participants were very happy and thankful to Didi and the sisters for good food and care. The experiences we all shared, the bliss we felt in this retreat through our spiritual practices will help us to move together towards the path shown by our beloved Baba. From New York Sector Regional seminar (retreat) was held at Agape/ Kure Beach Ministries A Regional Seminar cum retreat was held on April 20 22, 2012, at the Agape Center in Fuquay Varina, NC. Special thanks go out to Acharya Pashupati Steven Landau, MD, for his leadership and to Rose Turco for helping my wife and I with our registration questions and for making us feel so welcome by way of her natural kindness and warm personality. We very much enjoyed the companionship of the participants from Ananda Marga, and other yoga and meditation communities. The facilities were outstanding and it would be hard to find a more beautiful setting. And, my personal favorite, the food was amazing. We, like so many others there, are vegetarians and it was so nice to know that everyone involved with the cooking had taken such pains to make certain that the food was healthy and fit our lifestyle. The music at the retreat was beautiful, calming, and inspiring. I am sure there were many behind the scenes that made the event go smoothly, and I extend my appreciation to all. I hope to have another opportunity to join you. Dave Sumner Knoxville, TN 7

29th Prabhat Samgiit Retreat Held in Vermont "In the rustling sounds of sweet nature, the peacock of the mind dances, like the shadow of the moving wind, what does the heart seek? (Prabhat Samgiit #532) The forty devotees, who attended the 29th annual Prabhat Samgiit retreat in the gorgeous green hills of Vermont Aug , knew what their hearts sought, and found it. A weekend of blissful devotional singing, good company, great food, the rejuvenating prana-filled energy of the Vermont countryside - these things all added up to one extraordinary experience. Attendees sank deeply into the music of P. R. Sarkar (who has written 5018 devotional songs), learning new ones and remembering old ones. The program was masterfully led by Arun, whose line by line translation-and-ideation style of teaching made the songs resonate deeply, and by Anjali, whose sweet voice led us in tuneful appreciation of the "five special songs" as well as others. The retreat took place on the verandah of the home of Parashakti and Ciran, whose hospitality was overflowing. Local margiis pitched in preparing fantastic meals, and the overall organizing was beautifully rendered by Giiridhara and Ac. Cirasmita. When not learning songs, attendees were treated to plenty of Baba stories, especially from the ten acaryas in attendance, a Baba video, nature walks, a reading about Prabhat Samgiit from Alok's forthcoming book, and cooperative weather with warm days and star-filled nights. Next year will be the 30th anniversary marking Baba's creation of Prabhat Samgiit - Make plans to attend what promises to be an equally wonderful retreat. 11 ONE YEAR OF ACHIEVEMENTS 27 March 2011 To 26 March 2012 The united administration formed under Ac. Kinshuk Ranjan Sarkar, with the support of margiis and workers all over the world, has just completed one year. By His grace and overwhelming support of margiis and workers to the cause of unity, this administration has achieved quite a few landmarks after surmounting several obstacles. Baba says that if cause is great, impediments it faces is also huge. As such after passing through trying times, the united administration has become stronger and stronger and feels confident of achieving its mission of One Ista One Ideology One Ananda Marga. 1. The Process of Unity: An Integration committee is formed with Ac. Viitamohananda Avadhuta as convener. This committee is interacting with those who have not yet integrated with this administration individually and collectively. The open door policy of this administration is now recognized and appreciated all over the world. Several workers across the divided line are visiting Kolkata, meeting or calling Kinshukjii and are enjoying the fraternal feeling so rare to find anywhere else. Those from ex-unity group not yet fully integrated have expressed their willingness to talk and details of the meeting will be decided in Ananda Purnima DMS Informal interaction with Ranchi administration workers is going on both at junior and senior level. 2. New Year Dharma Maha Sammelan: As is well-known, by His grace, this united administration was able to hold a very successful Dharma Maha Sammelan on New Year eve at Anandanagar. Ranchi administration did not accept our proposal to hold a joint DMS nor they were ready to hold New year DMS alternately one year by them and one year by UA. But the landmark judgment by Calcutta High Court has changed the scenario. It was not only a legal victory, but also moral victory in favour of unity. There was only one DMS this year after several years and thousands of margiis and workers who attended enjoyed the open door policy no one was stopped everybody was allowed to attend. Several mis-concepts were removed and Ac. Kinshukjii s heart touching words has earned him unreserved appreciation. 3. Central Committee Meetings: Two meetings of this newly formed central committee that included several overseas workers and Senior Grhii Acarayas from India and abroad were held one in October 2011 and another in February It s a new experience and the discussions are enriched by fresh approach. A vision statement is released which was well received by both margiis and workers all over the world. The meetings are well-attended and are chaired by Kinshukjii. (NB: We regret that only achievements in India are covered in this statement ) 11

The matter was published in local news paper Dadhici Divas Observed in Ananda Nagar 5th March is Dadhici Divas. a day to pay homage-to remember all those who laid down their lives for the cause of ideology. As is known - this is the day on which in 1967, 5 dadas were brutally killed by communist organised attack on Anandanagar. Ac. Abhedananda Avadhuta,(PA to Baba), Ac. Saccidananda Avadhuta(senior worker -Principal, Agriculture college)), Avadha Kumar, Prabhas Kumar and Bharat Kumar (all awaiting completion of their WT training) were killed in this attack. Thereafter more than 40 dadas. didis, margii brothers and sisters laid down their lives for His ideology and Baba declared that 5th March would be observed as a day to remember all such sacrifices. The day was observed with 3 hour kiirtan at Dadhici Hill at Anandanagar and several dadas, direct witness of the incident - including Dada Sutiirtananda Avadhuta -who was then student in Anandangar and was injured in the incident, narrated the whole story. The Dadhici divas was observed all over the world with fasting from dawn to dusk and homage paying to all the Dadhicis. 16

The Statement on Mission, Purpose and Process of Central Committee The Central Committee of Ananda Marga Pracaraka Samgha under the progressive leadership of Ac. Kinshuk Ranjan Sarkar proclaims that one integrated organization has to be formed as early as possible removing all the distrust, misunderstandings and communication gap. Uniting the organization is the top priority of this central committee. The central committee wants to follow Baba s approach and instead of looking at our post 1990 dark past, which led to this fragmented organization; or wasting time in analyzing who is wrong and who is right, we believe in embarking on the journey to our bright future utilizing all our resources the most valuable being the human resources created by our most Beloved Baba and His ideology. The downfall of communism and crumbling edifice of so called mighty capitalism has opened the new vista for Prout to fill in the ideological vacuum and usher in the whole humanity to bright future. This central committee wants to mobilize support from all the workers and margiis and common man to push forward the cause of Baba s mission. The declaration of 2012 as Prout Year and slogan given by Kinshukjii from New Year DMS podium One Ista, One Mission, One Ananda Marga are the indications of this approach. We have to accept all struggles and sacrifices to meet His high standards to restore and build anew our united one AMPS as the monolithic rock in His ideology, to serve the world and usher in One Universal Family. We endeavor to work with all, to listen, to plan and to put into actions all collectively agreed upon decisions, to achieve the objective laid down by Him to build one strong Ananda Marga at all levels and in all areas. This central committee believes in continuous interaction with margiis and workers to whatever so called group one may belong to. The committee looks at them as Baba s missionaries, as Baba s devotees and welcomes them. We believe in open door policy and fight with all the impediments in the path of integration. This central committee (CC) believes in non-compromising strictness regarding holding high the values Baba has created for us to follow both in individual and collective life. The CC believes that dedication and sacrifice of all the margiis and workers should be respected and their potentiality should be utilized in the best way possible. The creation of new cadre WTs, LFTs and devoted and dedicated margiis is very important to us. Grhii Acaryas will play a very constructive role in Pracar work, building up the structure, creation of the cadre etc and we want to encourage this process. When we think of materializing His mission, building up of Anandanagar assumes the highest priority. This committee has given top priority to Anandanagar and is mobilizing all the resources both human and material to materialize this dream project of Baba. A Broad Based Anandanagar Development Committee is formed with GS as Chairman and RM as Secretary. The committee has held its first meeting to form subcommittees on different areas like planning, finance, Agriculture, Afforestation, Alternative Energy, Water management, Sanctuaries, Education, Gurukul, Medical, Homes, Women Welfare, PCAP, Cottage Industry etc. We welcome suggestions in this regard from all over the world and also welcome volunteer services. The formation of global ACBs is also a priority area. The Global ACB of GS is already formed and is functioning. Global ACB for Amurt, Finance, RU-RAWA, Farm, Medical, Dharma Pracar, Prout, Education, Publications, PR, WWD etc are being formed encouraging global participation from all sectors. The central committee also wants to work hard to maintain the sanctity of Marga Guru/s Pratikrti, Audios and Videos in accordance with directions given in Caryacarya Part 2. It also wants to enhance the standard of Neohumanistic education in our schools. The central committee of united administration formally meets 3 times a year for 3 days each time, with ongoing communication between members in between the meetings. The CC believes that our strength as an organization depends on the involvement of all members and we invite all margiis and WTs to join hands with us as we work together to fulfill His great mission. 17

A BIG RETREAT IN MEXICO More than 90 margiis and Acaryas attended the September retreat held near Puebla, Mexico. Here is a report from Ac. Pashupati: A lovely Mexican retreat was held on September in the city of Puebla. Located within a church compound, the accommodations included a large dining hall and meditation hall, outdoor stage, projection facilities and camping sites as well as semi-private rooms. Organized by Dadas Krpasundarananda and Arddhvendu Maoli, there were about 90 people attending including about 8 acaryas. As many of the people were new to Ananda Marga, there were seminars dedicated to the meaning and import of Baba Nam Kevalam, pratika, and Baba's photo. In addition, Pashupati gave instruction on First Aid, and also Disaster Management. At the time, at least 2 attendees committed to starting AMURT units, and were given AMURT T-shirts to start their project. Tandava and Kaoshikii competitions were vigorously held, and we learned that it might be better to hold separate competitions for new and established margiis. Dada Tiirthananda and Didi Ananda Vikirna made wonderful meals for us, and Giitanjali held forth in her inimitable and inspirational fashion about service, health programs, and the universality of Ananda Marga. In addition, a truly amazing cultural program included kung-fu and capoiera demonstrations, classical ballet, Israeli hora (circle dance), poetry, Spanish rap songs and personal tales. Not to mention a lady twirling 3 different hula hoops simultaneously and gracefully. Katha Kirtan party, MC'ed by Didi Ananda Mamata, rounded out the event, and about 25 new people were initiated. As best as I could tell, a wonderful time was had by all. Yoga Festival Dada Mukteshananda was invited to a yoga festival in San Jose, Costa Rica and gave a lecture on "Chakras, Emotions and Glands." Here is a photo taken after his lecture. 18

Prout Seminar in Greensboro, North Carolina A November seminar on the Next Economy in Greensboro highlighted the social philosophy of Ananda Marga. Presenters showed how the Progressive Utilization Theory can be a solution to the present economic crisis. Jagatbandhu, an economics professor, began with an overview of the present crisis and was followed by Ramesh, Hiranmaya and Dada Vedaprajinananda, all of whom outlined a vision of a future economy based on economic democracy. 1. More than 125 margiis came together for a blissful and enjoyable conference on December 27-January 1.The theme of the conference was Bhakti Yoga and the Spirit of Cooperation, and the experiential and active workshops helped to bring everyone together in a feeling of love, cooperation and community. 2. As the event took place at the end of one year and the beginning of the New Year, the highlight was a long Kiirtan which culminated just after midnight on December 31-January 1. For the first time the kiirtan was streamed live over the Internet enabling margiis in Oregon, New York, Champaign, IL, and elsewhere to take part in the retreat. 3. Another highlight was the cultural programs which took place over two nights featuring all the talent of the gathered margiis. 4. A special feature was a trip to some new land near Austin which will soon become a model spiritual eco-village. This project is under the direction of Ac. Dhyanesh. Also, Ac. Pashupati led a contingent of retreat participants in some collective social service, repairing facilities at the Kathryn Anne Porter School. 5. To give you an idea of what took place at the event, here are some comments from some of the attendees. 6. Akhandakiirtan on New Year s eve was amazing Also, when we all worked together artistically or in games, that was wonderful 7. I liked being with my margii family while we rang in the New Year, watching fireworks explode outside the window. It was sweet. 8. My best experience was that I was inspired to facilitate the open space workshops I feel inspired to do it again and again and to create workshops that would uplift, inspire and benefit margiis at future retreats. 9. You can watch 16 videos from the retreat at: and listen to the New Year's Eve Kiirtan at: 19

Dada Vedaprajinananda s tour Following the retreat in Austin, Dada gave a lecture at the Sana Vida yoga center located in Austin s suburbs. Dada gave a combined concert and lecture on yoga and meditation, which concluded with a short session of chanting and meditation. Pracar in Florida Dada Vedaprajinananda gave lectures at two schools in Miami. First he visited the Young Men s Preparatory Academy. Dada spoke to the students about yoga and meditation, sang songs, and conducted a short collective meditation session with the students. Here is a photo: On another day Dada went to a middle school. This was more challenging than the high school because the students had never seen a yogi before and because of their younger age they are a bit more active and energetic. Dada reports, I explained how meditation works and then at the end we had a short meditation session. I played the mantra Baba Nam Kevalam and chanted and then guided them in silent meditation. When the meditation ended, the children sat there in silence, and their teachers were amazed (and so was I considering how boisterous they were at the beginning). Here is a photo of that meditation session. Meditation at the University of California, Berkeley Dada Nabhaniilananda teaches three classes a week at UC Berkeley - the highest rated public university in the country, and one of the most progressive. Ten years ago Shivendra, then a student, started a student-managed course titled Mind, Meditation and Mysticism. Though he graduated long ago, the course has continued and margiis are again involved in helping to run it. There are usually about 100 students enrolled and they get credit towards their degree. As well as helping to teach that class, this last semester Dada Nabhaniilananda introduced a new course, Meditation and the Way of Tantra. There were 23 enrolments and it was very successful and is set to continue next semester. Seven Berkeley students attended a recent beginners' retreat at Ananda Dhiira. 20
