PRIYA PISE BROUGHT LAURALS TO UNIVERSITY IN ALL INDIA JUDO Ku. Priya Pise won the bronze medal in All India Inter University Judo Championship at Tilak Maharashtra University, Pune, in 48 kg. category held from 16 th to 17 th November (Coach :- Prof. Mrs. Nalini Raut ). 03. HANDBALL [WOMEN] TEAM PLACED 2 ND IN WEST ZONE AND QUALIFIED FOR ALL INDIA INTER UNIVERSITY CHAMPIONSHIP:- Our handball women team won the silver medal in West Zone Inter University Handball tournament held at University of Rajasthan, Jaipur from 3 rd November 2011 to 6 th November & the team also participated in All India Inter University Championship held at Panjab University Chandigarh from 22 nd to 24 th January The team consisted of 01. 2 ** Mr. Vijay Singh and Mr. Ashish Rathi won Gold and Bronze Medal respectively in the Men Shotput event while Mr. Dhananjay Gaurav secured 2 nd place in Long Jump (Silver Medal) Mr. Avinash Chouhan got Silver Medal in Tripple Jump. Also the combined effort of Mr. M. Raju Mr.Avinash Choudhan, Mr. Mithilesh Gajbhiye, and Mr. Dhananjay Gaurav gave Silver Medal to the university in 4x100 mtrs Relay Race. 05. UNIVERSITY WOMEN CRICKET TEAM CREATED HISTORY FOR THE 1 ST TIME SINCE THEIR PARTICIPATION :- University cricket team won West Zone Inter University Championship for the first time held at Banasthali University, Rajasthan from 27 th December 2011 to 6 th January 2012 and Finished 2 nd in the All India Inter University Cricket Women championship from 8 th to 14 th January 2012 scored highest runs ever by any of the university. Rohini Raut got bronze medal in the half marathon event held at Rajiv Gandhi Health & Technology University, Mangalore from 17 th December 2011 to 21 st December * Mr. Nilesh Bodhe got 3 rd place in Half Marathon event held at Rajiv Gandhi Health & Technology University, Mangalore from 17 th December 2011 to 21 st December (Manager :- Pradeep Gandhe). 07. UNIVERSITY BADMINTON [WOMEN] TEAM QUALFIED FOR ALL INDIA INTER UNIVERSITY University girls badminton team got fourth place in West Zone Inter University Badminton Championship & participated in All India India Inter University championship held at M. SILVER MEDAL TO TABLE TENNIS [WOMEN] TEAM IN WEST ZONE TABLE TENNIS University got 2 nd place in West Zone Table Tennis (Women) tournament while boys finished 4 th in the West Zone Table Tennis Championship held at Nagpur from 17 th to 19 th January Both teams participated in All India Inter University Table Tennis Championship held from 20 th to 22 nd January The team members were 1.Mr. Viresh Rana, 2.Mr. Rohit Borwankar, 3.Mr. Omkar Mhaskar, 4.Mr. Sai Vikas Varma, 5.Mr. Sudipto Mitra (Manager :- Prof. R.V. Bhumeshwari Bhalavi got selected in the A.I.U. team which participated in Sr. National Handball championship held at New Delhi from 4 th to 9 th January BRONZE MEDAL WINNING PERFORMANCE BY OUR CHESS TEAM IN ALL INDIA INTER UNIVERSITY CHESS Our chess team won the bronze medal in All India Inter University chess championship held at Vellore Institute of Technology, Vellore (Total 13 point + in 5 matches) from 15 th to 17 th February Also Mr. Gurpreet Singh Maras got board prize. 4 MR. RAJESH SONUNE BROUGHT THE BRONZE FOR UNIVERSITY IN ALL INDIA BOXING Mr. Rajesh Sonune secured Bronze medal in 48 kg. Light Fly Category for All India Inter University Boxing Championship held at Lovely Professional University Jalandhar from 29 th February 2012 to 7 th March SUCCESSFUL CONDUCT OF WEST ZONE & ALL INDIA INTER ZONAL INTER UNIVERSITY TABLE TENNIS [ MEN & WOMEN ] TOURNAMENT Department conducted West Zone and All India Inter University Table Tennis Championship for Men & Women from 17 th to 19 th January 2012 and 20 th to 22 nd January team participated in West Zone Inter University Men & Women Championships. 32 team participated in All India Inter University Men & Women Championships. 6 RASHTRASANT TUKDOJI MAHARAJ NAGPUR UNIVERSITY, NAGPUR DEPARTMENT OF DIRECTOR, PHYSICAL EDUCATION INTRODUCTION :- The university is the oldest university established in 1923 under the Central Province Act of Shri. Rai Bahadur Sir Bipin Kirshna Bose was appointed as its first Vice Chancellor. Faculties and Boards of Studies were created and first Convocation of the University was held on the 28 th November With a view to co-ordinate and encourage Physical Training and Welfare Activities in the university the Executive Council appointed a Board of Physical Welfare at its meeting held on 15 th February 1936 and this Board conducted its activities mainly through the Director Physical Education who acted in the capacity of Secretary to this Board till today. At present there are more than 800 colleges affiliated to the university spread over six district, namely Nagpur, Wardha, Bhandara, Gondia, Chandrapur and Gadchiroli. To organize and conduct the competitions in games and sports and physical education is the main responsibility of the department. To cope up with the increasing demand of sports facilities, infrastructural support university is whole heartedly supporting the department within the limitations of available funds and resources. Department is responsible to conduct Inter Collegiate tournament in 34 games/sports arrange for selection trials to compose the university teams, organize coaching camps of the university teams, send the teams for inter university competitions, controls and guides the physical education activities of the colleges under the jurisdiction of the university since the establishment of the university (i.e. since 1923). Till date department organized many West Zone Inter University, All India Inter University Inter Zonal games/sports competitions.
