2 Editor s letter INSIDE Spring 2018 Welcome to the spring issue of Best Mediums magazine, where we are celebrating all things March: from Mother s Day to the Spring Equinox to Blue Moons! With a bit of an ethereal theme, we delve into The Good Place, a TV show starring Kristen Bell (our cover star), featuring a version of Heaven and Hell but don t worry it s a comedy with a touch of philosophy thrown in. Then we move on to Angel s, looking at one possible version of their hierarchy. If your relationship is floundering, or you are looking for love then why not consider The Law of Attraction? If you just need a spring pick-me-up, then our focus on positivity could be just the thing In this issue we feature eight different medium readers see pages 8 & 9 for an introduction to Karen, Hope, Lorraine, Mary, Tobias and Vivienne not forgetting Fran and Ruth on the back cover. When The Law of Attraction: Finding Your Perfect Relationship The Law of Attraction can be an incredibly powerful tool in finding your perfect relationship, if you are open to its power. Read on to find out how Turn negatives into positives It can be easy to let negative thoughts and emotions overpower our minds and affect our beliefs about love, however these worries will result in a destructive attitude towards love. If you have had a painful relationship experience, you may be letting your past prevent you from moving forward which can stop you from using your full power to attract your soul mate. In order to change these thought patterns, begin by writing a list of the negative assumptions you have about relationships and love as a whole, then next to each belief, set yourself a challenge to overcome your assumptions. For example, you may write How will I ever trust someone again? which will become When I meet the right person, trusting them will seem natural and easy in time. Don t judge quickly Try not to make snap judgments about the people you choose to date. Even though it is great to have an idea of what you want in a relationship, don t try and change them and accept them as they are. Trust that the universe is sending these people your way for a reason. They could be an important lesson or it could be lifelong love but by not giving them a chance, you will never know. Love yourself If you have a positive attitude towards yourself, the Law of Attraction will become an effective tool in your relationship. If you are constantly sending out negative signals, others will start to view you in a negative way which could harm any future relationships. If you correct these beliefs you have about yourself, your positive vibes and love for yourself will shine through and allow others to see you how you see yourself. Break out of your comfort zone It s easy to stay in your comfort zone, but in order to increase your chances of dating success, taking a leap of faith may bring you what you have been searching for. Don t dismiss methods of dating which may scare you such as online dating, speed dating or allowing a friend to set you up. Even if your match is not the one for you, use it as a lesson for future dates. For example, if you felt your date talked too much and was not interested in hearing about your life, on your next date, remember how this made you feel and make a point to listen. Take each day, a day at a time and allow your relationships to evolve naturally and not force something that isn t there. Let your true self shine and learn to trust the Law of Attraction. 3

3 1st St David s Day No Smoking Day Stats suggest that at least 60% of smokers will try to give up during January as part of new year resolutions, but by February will have re-started. Unfortunately, smoking is still the number one cause of preventable death in the UK. The 7th March represents a national day geared to helping people to give up for good. St David is of course the patron saint of Wales, the 1st celebrates both the life of the saint and Welsh culture, but interestingly the saint is also celebrated in Canada and the USA. Not that much is known about St David, it is thought he lived to be 100, but texts about him only appeared 500 years later. So, some of his story may be true, others may just be legends. He was known to have founded several churches and a monastery, and he went on to become an archbishop, eventually he was canonised. 7th 11th Mother s Day 2nd Worm Moon At this time of year, a full moon is known as a worm moon, as a result of early Native American tribes seeing this as the time of year that earthworms would appear due to the ground softening. But it also has other names: Full Crow Moon, Full Crust Moon, Full Sap Moon and Lenten Moon. The modern day that we celebrate as Mother s Day actually had different beginnings. It used to be a day that folk travelled back to the church that they were either baptised in or where they attended church as a child. The resulting action was that families that had fragmentated due to work etc, reunited on this day. As time went on, it was often a day that servants were given off, in order that they could return home, to visit their mother and bring gifts such as food or even hand-me-down clothing from their employer. 17th St Patrick s Day St Patrick s Day celebrates Irish culture in general alongside the Saint Patrick who ministered Christianity during the fifth century. The day is celebrated in many places across the world, where people often dress up in traditional costume and dye things green and the Irish shamrock heavily features as an icon. He is said to have died on the 17th March, he grew up in Roman Britain, but was later captured and taken as a slave by Irish raiders. When he was eventually returned to his family he entered the church and became a missionary. 20th March Equinox The March or Vernal Equinox mark the beginning of Spring. Equinox is the Latin word for aequus meaning equal and nox refers to night. Suggesting that during this period we get an equal day and night of 12 hours each. 30th Good Friday Blue Moon This year February did not have a full moon, and as such two full moons occur in March. The second occurring on the last day of the month. Because this is the second, it is known as a Blue Moon is unique in that January & March both have two full moons and February has none. Clocks Go Forward On Sunday 25th March 2018 at 1am clocks go forward by one hour to create daylight saving time, therefore from this point sunset and sunrise will be an hour later and more light will creep through in the evening. Good Friday is one of the most important dates in the Christian calendar, and will be celebrated across the world with special church services. Of course, the day depicts and commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus and as such it can seem odd that the day has Good in the title, when the event is about the ultimate sacrifice and suffering. 4 Looking for the Good Place? The Good Place is essentially a comedy about the afterlife, which sounds like a bit of an oxymoron, but it has been a surprising hit. The show is a Netflix Original, and as I write this season 1 is available in full and the second half of season two is being delivered week by week. Season 3 has already been commissioned and is likely to air in autumn this year. In broad terms there is The Good Place, as you might conceptualise heaven and there is an opposite The Bad Place (Hell). The series was created by Michael Schur, who you might recognise for other quirky programmes such as Parks and Recreation, The Office and Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Dream Symbols One of the main characters is played by Ted Danson (Michael), who is the architect of The Good Place, generally speaking architects do not go on to live amongst the people once the initial introductions (post death) have been carried out but Michael wants to experience what it is really like to be human, albeit learning from people that have passed over Do you often wake, thinking that was a really weird dream? It can be hard to make head nor tail of what it meant. Sometimes we may have the feeling that the dream just happened, and that it was strange and complicated, but it is not always easy to remember all of the details. The next time that happens to you, it is worth trying to think if there were any elements of the dream, perhaps a symbol that stood out to you. You may have noticed it, but not necessarily thought it was relevant to the story playing out. Here are some examples: Arrows: Generally, an arrow marks a tense period of unhappiness. Perhaps you feel you have lost control of a situation? You can turn things around, but you need a new plan take advice from those wiser than you. Bees: Overall dreaming of bees represents truth and perseverance. A singular bee is an indication of prosperity. Boxes: If the box is closed, you are likely struggling with a decision you need to make. If a box is open, it is a strong indicator to go ahead with your plans. If a box is empty, it is likely difficult news is on the way. Clocks: As you might imagine clocks, or other time-pieces such as a watch represent time. Generally, that time is on your side. It also often represents financial or business success. Crosses: A cross as you probably suspected is a spiritual sign, one of blessings and calm tidings. Keys: If it was a large key you are likely in-line for an inheritance. Holding several keys indicates that you have various opportunities but a choice needs to made about them. Being given a key means you are starting a fresh phase in your life. Knots: Single knots very often represent setbacks in life, possibly of a financial nature, or maybe you have fallen out with friends. Several knots signify that you will have obstacles to overcome. If the knots are seen on a string they are likely to be less serious, but if on a rope then they are more severe in nature. Locks: There are two ways to look at a lock as an obstruction or as providing safety. The newer the lock the more likely it is about protecting you from harm. An old or rusty lock may mean that someone is trying to sabotage you in some way but don t worry they will not succeed. Mirrors: A mirror is a lovely symbol a reminder that you are kind, and a good person. You are unlikely to see your reflection, and those of bad characters rarely dream of mirrors! If the mirror is cracked do not worry, it does not mean bad luck as you might imagine, but merely that you should continue with your good behaviour in life. Stars: Dreaming of the stars brings happy moments. Falling stars may represent misunderstandings and dull stars as opposed to bright twinkling ones, mean you may have to work harder to achieve what you want. Stars that are close to you indicate a happy relationship union and good health. Each person that arrives at The Good Place is paired with a soulmate, in Eleanor s case this is Chidi Anagonye played by William Jackson Harper, before passing away he was a philosophy professor specialising in ethics! Chidi quickly realises that Eleanor does not belong, but she convinces him to teach her to be a better person, and so the fun ensues The problem is that Eleanor finds it hard to shake off her selfish and immoral old ways, and every time she does something definitely not appropriate for The Good Place, bad things happen to the location from flying shrimp to sink-holes! 6 A ngels are quite mystical in themselves, much has been written about them and there are many different opinions about their origins and purpose. Despite a diverse attitude a few theories have become accepted, such as one popularised by Dionysius the Areopagite who was a Greek mystic of the 6th century CE. He wrote the Celestial Hierarchy where he divided the angelic realm into nine orders, made up of three choirs. This theory was further developed in the 13th century by an Italian theologian named St Thomas Aquinas. The First Choir The first choir was made up of three groups of angels who were supposed to be closest to God, and who were given face-to faceworship with him. Seraphim: They include Uriel and Michael who were aflame with love and devotion for God and were therefore known as the burning ones. Cherubim: Meaning one who intercedes, they include Jophiel and Gabriel. They have a protective role and were positioned by God in the east of the Garden of Eden. Thrones: Were known as the many eyed ones, they include Japhkiel and Raziel, they were angels of justice and carried out God s decisions. The Second Choir A dedication of knowledge of God through the universe was the purpose of the second order of angels. The Angel Hierarchy Dominions: God would show mercy through angels like Zadkiel and Zacharel, they bring knowledge and wisdom, they demonstrate God s power through creation. Virtues: Known as the shining ones, as a result of showing courage. Angels like Haniel would work alongside Thrones to bring rewards and blessings to humans who overcome their difficulties. Powers: Their purpose is to stop devils and fallen angels from taking over the universe. Led by Chamuel, they work tirelessly to ensure we transition into the next phase of our lives following death. The Third Choir The third choir are ministering angels, who take care of humans. Principalities: Angels like Raguel guard the world nations, their leaders, their religions as well as sacred places. Archangels: These are chief angels that deliver messages from God to humans. They are connected to the elements earth, wind, air and fire. Who the archangels are is one of the many debated topics, but will definitely include Michael, Gabriel and Raphael. They in turn have control over armies of angels to battle any forces of darkness. Angels: Angels being ranked last in the hierarchy should not be taken for a message of the least important. These Angels would include what we call guardian angels, they are ready and waiting for us to summon them whenever we need them, they deliver messages between God and nature to humans. Ref: The Psychic s Bible, Jane Struthers The Power of Reiki Many of our Psychics are Reiki Masters, and that may have left you wondering just what Reiki is Well, in Japanese Rei means universal higher power, and ki translates as energy or life force. Reiki is a type of meditational practise that dates back to 1920, the practise is used for healing others, by channelling healing energy through the practitioner s hands. By restoring the ki (energy), the patient should feel better, their vital energy will be restored and the feeling of out of balance they were experiencing would be corrected. Origins A Japanese scholar called Dr Mikao Usui is credited with inventing Reiki. He is understood to have fasted for 21 days in a holy mountain before meditating under a sacred waterfall, in order to open up and purify the uppermost chakra. He believed this allowed him to heal others, but without energy depletion, his system was developed to what we know as Reiki, which is now a prominent complementary therapy world-wide. Healing Energy The person carrying out Reiki channels healing energy, using different patterns across the body, whilst not actually touching the patient. The hands are actually held several centimetres from the body, and encourages a deep sense of relaxation and well-being. Patients sometimes report tingling or warmth and can feel quite emotional as blocked energy leaves the body. Universal energy flows through the practitioner via the throat chakra and into the recipient via the hands. The Reiki practitioner is very much an active participant, intuitively they are drawn to areas that need the most support, with the healing going through the chakras (energy centres), meridians (energy channels) and the nervous system. The Healers Reiki Masters as they are often known, have much in common with those working with other spiritual gifts, but the practise allows them to heal without having their own life energy depleted. Reiki can be delivered from a distance, whereby symbols are used to provide a connection between the healer and recipient to facilitate the transmission of energy. Results Reiki is not seen as a curative practise, but a way to stimulate healing, it encourages creativity, good mental health, focus and self-confidence. 7 The Magic of the Blue Stone Positivity The internet and social media in particular are awash with positive affirmations, famous quotes and inspiring sayings, and it is easy to glide over them as just another person or celebrity spouting a glib comment on their feed But actually, having a positive mantra or affirmation that you repeat to yourself throughout the day has been proven to build confidence, improve self-esteem and let a person appreciate their worth. So, reinforcing this with positive statements on the web as part of everyday browsing is not necessarily a bad thing. Sappheiros is the Greek name for sapphire, which simply means blue. It has been known for years as a royal gemstone, and is often seen in royal crowns, jewellery and robes. But it is also a highly prized stone for individuals for its rich and magical history and qualities of prosperity, wisdom and inspiration. The Magic For those wishing to increase their psychic abilities, sapphire is the obvious choice. It is a powerful stone that provides clarity, especially in determining meaning from higher powers. As a gem it fosters courage and provides inner-faith, you will feel more certain, have self-belief and confidence in your gifts and decisions. There is no more amazing feeling, than when you have had an unbelievable day, it is not necessarily that anything particularly special happened, but just that everything fell in to place. Perhaps you got out of bed feeling refreshed, your drive to work was smooth sailing, you achieved a lot on your to do list, had a great lunch, met some friends for coffee and watched some great TV.
