Symbolism of Bakala samples by Asar Imhotep December 10, 2009 The MOCHA-Versity Institute of Philosophy and Research BAKALA
NKWA Ancient Egyptian ankhu = man Budge 124B The word KA is also a term for authority which also adds credence to our interpretation. Observe the following (Imhotep 2009): kaka(god) Egyptian kaka Yetu (description of God as primary ancestor) Luvale-Bantu nkaka (family head) - Kikongo ka (greater, superior) Igbo kaananke (leader, leadership) - Soninke NKWA mavanga (mature leadership) - Kikongo nkwiki (coal fighter, metaphor for leader see Fu-Kiau 2001:27) - Kikongo nkani (a judge) Kongo, Loango and Tio (see Kleiman 2003:155) kumu-a-mbuku (owner of the village) Mitsogho tunka chief, leader Soninke tunke master, chief Soninke KAKA Ancient Egyptian = God Luvale Bantu = ancestor, elder, God Luvale-Bantu = KAKA (YETU) our god (yetu = our) Kiswahili = an elder relative, elder brother NGANGA ankh = life personified, the name of a god reinterpretation = a master, doer, a true knower, a specialist, teacher, priest, a power figure Budge 125A
Sound Values for BAKALA Glyph Phonetic Value Meaning B(a) KA Place, abode, people (Budge pg. 197a) The double or soul (Budge pg. cvii) Vital strength (Budge 783a) Image, genius, person, character, disposition (Budge 782b) R or RA (Egyptologists claim they did not have a glyph for the letter L. This is false as this sign can represent an R or an L. To write L in the new kingdom period for foreign names, they Mouth (Budge pg. cvi) At, by, near, to, toward, into, with, among, from, every, concerning, up to, until, against, (Budge p. 414a) used this glyph: (rw)) Man and woman, no phonetic value, but could be read as BA meaning they or them. When together, they mean the people. For our purposes here, we will interpret them as humanity or man Vertical strokes symbolizing plural. No phonetic value
BAKALA The shenu is simply an elongated version of this sign which means eternity. For our purposes we will interpret eternity to mean the universe, as the universe is infinite. So what this name is telling us in the ancient script is: Ideographic definition of BAKALA The universe is the place where the soul/spirit turns into a human being
Ahennwa (Ashante royal stool) Another variation of the Ahennwa - the Akan throne, symbol of national IDENTITY, cultural integrity and rightful governance. This can also be rendered as Ohemmaa Adwa.
Cartouches As mentioned above, both the prenomen and the nomen names are enclosed in cartouches. (The cartouche (pronounced kar-toosh) is the oval figure with the vertical line on its right.) Originally, the cartouche was a drawing of a rope loop. In fact, the Egyptian word for cartouche is shenu, and it literally means 'that which encircles'. The cartouche symbolized that the king, whose name was inside the cartouche, was the ruler of everything encircled by the sun (that is, of everything on earth). After the Middle Kingdom (after about 1674 BCE), cartouches weren't just for kings. The names of queens and of the royal children could be written inside cartouches as well. But the names of non-royals were never written in cartouches. Shenu of Tut-Ankh-Amen It should be noted that the Egyptian shnw is cognate with the Akan hnnw (Ahennwa). Often times in languages words that begin with an /sh/ sound end up dropping the /s/ and leaving the /h/. This is the case with the Egyptian shnw (where /u/ and /w/ are interchangeable). So when we place the images side by side you will see how the Akan remixed the shnw symbol but still kept it associated with royalty using the same name:
ahennwa shenwa
SIMBA SIMBI Hold up that which holds you up! The key word to this work is Sîmbi. The word finds its root from the kikôngo language root verb sîmba which means: to hold up to keep (something) to bless to treasure to touch to retain As to Sîmbi itself, it is a word that has three meanings in kikôngo language: a keeper; a watch over someone with power to protect a living power/energy that holds up everything The sîmbi (the life holding-power, God), is present in all his people to regenerate not only their living, but also their healing and protecting powers as well. Life in all its aspects, as we know it, would be impossible without the living principle the Kôngo call sîmbi (holding power). It is the birthing power of all. SÎMBA SÎMBI: Holding Up That Which Holds You Up [no matter what that is to you] is keeping this living divine order to bless us and to hold us up to justice, to success, to life and to happiness for all, collectively.
