To the saints at Elmhurst Presbyterian Church, I continue to give thanks to God for all of you, for your faith, openness, and care. Thank you for welcoming me into your community and lives, for sharing your stories and listening to mine, for wrestling with the questions and doing the work together, for your good humor, genuine love for others, conversations about challenges facing us today, for always seeking the Spirit s leading, and willingness to take risks. A special thanks to the leaders of the church who continue to serve with energy, intelligence, imagination and love. Thank you for your friendship and trust. I have also been blessed to work with an extraordinary staff, who are gifted, hardworking, and fun. They have made my work easier. Thank you for your commitment and care. EPC LIBRARY The library has been moved to the Tallman Room. Come and check out the new arrangement. The books can be borrowed and returned when you are done reading them. You are blessed, and I encourage you to share this blessing with others; inviting them not only to church, but into your circles of caring, to share their stories and gifts as you do, to build a community together that continues to reflect and extend God s love. I leave you feeling hopeful for your future, trusting that God is at work in you. Though I will no longer be your pastor, I will always be your friend. It has been my privilege and joy to journey with you through this time of transition. The peace of Christ be with you. Debbie PS. Pastor Debbie s last Sunday will be August 12, and last day in the office will be August 15. 2 11

Dear Elmhurst Presbyterian Family of Faith - NOTE FROM BUILDINGS & GROUNDS Continued reminder that whenever there is a group meeting, please designate one person to close the church. This means to make sure all doors are locked and all lights are off. Also, whenever there is an event in church (other than worship), the group planning and using the church facility needs to have someone in charge of clean-up: garbage out, new garbage bags in the cans, wiping up all counter tops, washing all dishes, putting them away, and taking home all dish towels that needed to be washed. Thank you. Marj Schuham, Buildings & Grounds Hello from hot San Antonio! I was invited to write a note in the August Newsletter, and I'm so grateful for the opportunity. Speaking of grateful, we are full of gratitude these days. Just this week we signed a two year lease on a home that is near Conrad Fischer Elementary School where our boys will be starting school soon after we arrive. We are grateful to have found a house we like and grateful to my parents for helping us find it from afar. We're in the process of securing quotes and finalizing the movers that will pack up our family and cars to head to Elmhurst! My last Sunday at my current call is on Sunday, August 12, and the very next day movers will be beginning to pack and load our things. On the 15th of August we'll all fly to Portland for my good college friend's wedding, and we'll return to Elmhurst on the 19th. We'll be using those last weeks of August to settle into the new home and community, and be fully prepared to dive in to church work on my start date of September 1. We're all incredibly excited. I am excited to begin ministry with all of you and to learn about life and ministry at Elmhurst Presbyterian Church. Already I've seen the wonderful work you're doing in the community to be a welcoming place where Christ's love is shown. I look forward to joining you on that journey. Please continue to pray for me and my family as we say goodbye to another wonderful church community, Northwood Presbyterian Church. It's hard to leave such a wonderful community and to leave the beautiful town of San Antonio, so even though we are grateful, our gratitude is mixed with grief. We're saying goodbye and also saying hello. When I arrive, one of the things I'll most be looking forward to is one-on-one (or small group) meetings. If you'd like to have coffee, or lunch, or tea, I'll look forward to that! My email address is smith.traci@gmail.com and I'm on Facebook and Instagram for those who like connecting via social media. Though we're very busy in the transition time, please feel free to connect with me and say hello so we can get to know one another. Peace and many blessings to you, Pastor Traci 10 3
