Attarine Mosque It was named so because of its location in the Attarine area in Alexandria. The Attarine Mosque was originally a church dedicated to Saint Athanasius in 370 AD, which was converted into a small mosque when Islam came to Egypt. History has it that Badr El Gamaly, the General of the army, restored the mosque of Al Attarine in 1057 AD and it eventually became a congregational mosque for Friday prayers. جامع العطارين أحد أقدم مساجد اإلسكندرية وي عتبر واحد ا من المعالم اإلسالمية بالمدينة. يقع في الشارع الذي يحمل اسمه بحي العطارين العريق. وقد ع رف بهذا االسم لوقوعه بالقرب من سوق العطارين أحد أشهر أسواق اإلسكندرية قديم ا. ولقد كان هذا الجامع في األصل كنيسة تعرف باسم كنيسة القديس أثناثيوس أقيم عليها بعد الفتح اإلسالمي لمصر جامعا صغير كما وقد عرف هذا المسجد أيضا باسم الجامع الجيوشي نسبة إلى أمير الجيوشي بدر الدين الجمالي الذي قام بتجديده وتطويره وتوسعته.
