Everyday Stewardship Can you recite the Ten Commandments by heart? Several years ago a national US survey found more people could identify the ingredients in a Big Mac and name the children in the Brady Bunch television show than recite the Ten Commandments. Of course, being able to recite them is not nearly as important as living a life in harmony with them. However, if we simply live to not break them then we are only living out half of our discipleship. Every commandment calls us to action beyond the simplicity of its words. We are not to kill, but we are also called to support life. We are not to steal, but we are also to share what we have freely. We are to have no other Gods before our God, but we also need to actively praise and glorify Him. To live a moral life is to do more than follow rules and laws. It is to actively live in a way that gives witness to the Good News of Jesus Christ. This way of living is stewardship. As we focus more on the penitential message of Lent, we need to not just reflect on what we have done wrong, but equally what we have failed to do. To be given so much by a loving God and not share those things with God and His people is wrong as well. Perhaps as we reflect on these things we might find ourselves adding something to our lives that will last for many Lenten seasons to come. --Tracy Earl Welliver, MTS Don t forget to change your clocks next weekend! Daylight Savings Time begins March 11th. The Divine Mercy Chaplet in song will be celebrated on Sunday, March 11, following the 11:00 am Mass at. And finally, if there were people you know of who wanted to attend but Sunday nights did not work for them, please let them know about this new option. Join the Movement! Cursillo is a movement taking place around the world, aimed at making a Christian community possible in family, work, and social situations. The Cursillo method takes a Christian beyond a passive belief in God to a daily interaction with God and His people, helping one to become more committed in Christ. Beginning with a Cursillo weekend, participants will live, work and pray together during this 3-day respite from society. It is not a retreat, but rather the beginning of a person's life-long growth as a Christian. There will be two weekends in Maine this year: the next Women's weekend will be May 3-6 (deadline for the minimum number of applications is March 19) and the Men's weekend will be October 25 to 28. Parish Outreach Program 2017 Recap Food donations during the fall drive exceeded 2,500 pounds-wow and financial donations were exceptionally most generous! In all, our parish helped over 40 parish families with food, shelter, heat, and clothing assistance to name but a few. During 2017, donations of time, talent and treasure in support of our Parish Outreach Program was humbling. On behalf of our pastor and staff, please accept my most sincere thank you & merci for making a sacrifice in helping the most needy and vulnerable among us, especially during the Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons.
