We transition from the mild temperatures of the fall to the reality of winter. We transition from the execution of the years plans to planning for the next year. We transition from the culmination of many ministries to the infancy of others. One of the more important aspects of November for Concordia is that it is the month when we as a community evaluate our finances and set our budget for the upcoming year. In that regard, it seems appropriate for me to use this time and space for an honest conversation. Consider for a moment the larger community in which we live. Concordia is a member congregation of the Texas District of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod. At the international level our church body is struggling. In many ways that is because congregations of the LC-MS are struggling at the local level. The good news remains, that by keeping a very close eye on our spending, our congregation is in the black. The ministry of our congregation has never been based on dollars and cents. It is with a true and gentle spirit that we kindly ask our guests to be our guests. Yet it is with great boldness that we ask the members of our congregation to be generous supporters of the work of Christ at Concordia. Having said that, with great boldness, may I ask you to evaluate your personal views of giving to the work of Christ at Concordia? In your charity, please take ten minutes to examine the following Scriptures, and compare them to your own situation: If you would, open your Bible with me to study the words Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians chapters 8-9. By way of background you should know that the Corinthian church lived in a very prosperous region of Greece. Paul, in this section of Scripture exhorted them to learn from the example of the Macedonian churches, churches in a region of extreme poverty and financial uncertainty. In these 2 short chapters many principles of healthy Christian giving make themselves apparent. Will you examine them, and compare them to your personal philosophy of Christian giving? 1. 2 Corinthians 8:1-2 Giving flows from the inside out, not the outside in. 2. 8:3-4 God s grace enables us to give beyond our abilities. 3. 8:5 We are to give ourselves first to God and then to each other. 4. 8:6-7 God wants His people to excel in giving 5. 8:8 The sincerity of our love is shown in giving. 6. 8:9 Jesus is the model and power for all giving. 7. 8:10-12 God wants us to complete what we promise. 8. 8:13-15 God calls for equality in giving 9. 8:16-24 We are to keep everything completely transparent regarding giving. 10. 9:1-5 We should seek to be positive role models in our giving. 11. 9:6-11 Remember: You reap what you sow! 12. 9:12-15 Giving can be a real source of joy! I believe that God has called us together into a community of faith and that by the power of the Holy Spirit He has provided for all of our needs. By examining our personal thoughts and philosophies about Christian giving we can see to it that our mission is well funded and in mission continue to grow so that many who do not yet know Him will come to call Jesus, Savior and Lord. My prayers are with you as you consider how to bring praise and glory to Him through your ministry of Christian giving. E S

Concordia Adult Christmas Social Saturday, December 8, 2018 Fellowship Hall 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. Tis The Season, Merry Christmas & Ho, Ho, Ho! Let s celebrate the Christmas season with a little food and fun! The fun will happen in the fellowship hall. This will be a POT LUCK so please bring your best dish, skillet or crock pot of your favorite morsels. Look for a sign up sheet on the table in the entry in mid-november so we won t have everyone bringing the same thing. If you would like to participate in the gift exchange, please bring a wrapped Christmas ornament ($10 value). We will kick back and do this when we finish dinner. Most of you know the drill but we will count the gifts, draw a number and start the fun. Don t get too attached because your ornament could be and probably will be stolen from you at least once! Don t forget to sign the list. Hope to see you all for a fun time. Did I say we are going to have fun???? Absolutely! There will also be child care provided this year during the Adult Christmas Social. For questions or concerns, please contact Katy Roy-Rosar at 817 545-6224 or misskatyrr@yahoo.com PRAYER PAL LADIES OF CONCORDIA 2018 Would you like to be a Secret Prayer Pal during the Advent Season? If yes, this is how it works. There will be Secret Prayer Pal forms available on Sunday, November 4 as well as a sign up sheet if you plan to participate. A new location for everything this year will be on the Baker s Rack in Fellowship Hall. Please take a prayer request form, sign the I plan to participate list, fill out the information per instructions on the form and please put it in the Prayer Pal basket. The primary focus for this event is to pray for your pals requested prayers during the Advent Season. You may also give your pal cards of encouragement during this time if you wish to do so. There are blank cards there on the Baker s Rack for you to take to give to your Pal. The place for the card drop will also be on the Baker s Rack in Fellowship Hall. There will be a reveal party, usually the first week in January to find out your secret pal. The date and location will be announced in the near future. If any of you would like to host this, please let me know. If you would like to give your pal a gift at the reveal party, please limit the cost to $5.00. Remember the focus is on prayer so perhaps anything relating to prayer or spiritual would be appropriate. The deadline to sign the list and get your form turned in is Sunday, November 18. If you have questions, please don t hesitate to track me down or call me 817 545-6224 home or 817 532-7226 cellor email misskatyrr@yahoo.com. Board of Fellowship, Katy
