Jesus gave his friends some instructions, and they followed them. See if you can follow the directions in the boxes as you remember today s story. Following directions A er Jesus rose from the tomb, he showed himself to his disciples. Draw a picture of an empty tomb. Jesus said, Stay here in Jerusalem until you receive a sign from God. Soon you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit. Draw your idea of what the Holy Spirit might look like. Jesus li ed up his hands and blessed his friends. Draw a picture of a hand and write the word bless on it. e disciples waited for the gi of God s Spirit, and they went o en to the temple to praise God. Write the words Praise God! For 40 days Jesus came to his friends and taught them more about the kingdom of God. Write the number 40 and decorate it. Jesus also said, You will take my message to the very ends of the earth. Draw a picture of the earth. Jesus was li ed up into a cloud, and his friends could not see him any longer. SESSION 4 (available online at www.shinecurriculum.com/extras) Scripture ping-pong instructions Make copies of these instructions for use in Bible memory, one per child. Read the Bible memory passage aloud together, then divide into two groups. e first group will serve by reading the first portion of the passage. e second group will return by reading the next portion. e two groups will continue alternating in this way until the end of the passage. Go through it one time slowly to get a feel for the words and rhythm. en your teacher will time the readings several times to see how fast you can serve and respond. SESSION 4 Pass it on relay instructions Follow these instructions for a relay in Explore (Move). Have children stand behind each other in a line. e second child in the line should say Who was the prophet writing about? e first child will then pass a rolled-up newspaper (to represent the good news of Jesus) over his or her head to the second child while saying Jesus. Have the third child then repeat the phrase Who was the prophet writing about? ; the second child will pass the newspaper under his or her legs while saying Jesus. Continue down the line. When the last person in the line gets the newspaper, she or he moves to the front of the line and starts passing the newspaper back again. Play until the original line leader is back at the front. Copy this card onto card stock for use in Bible memory in sessions 8 9 and 11 13. Copies of the card will also be used in some of the Explore options in session 9. Each child will need a card. Divide the children into two groups. 3. e first group picks up any card and reads the word on the card aloud. 4. As a group, they look at the poster to determine in which numbered blank space the word on the card belongs. 5. e group calls out the chosen number. 5. Honor your father and your mother. 6. You shall not murder. 7. You shall not commit adultery. 8. You shall not steal. 9. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. 10. Follow the solid lines to cut out the foldie square. 2. Color in the larger block numbers, then place the square facedown on the table to begin folding. 3. One at a time, fold each corner to the middle to form a smaller square. 4. Flip the paper over. Again, one at a time, fold each corner to the middle to form a smaller square. 5. Fold the square in half. Unfold, then fold in half the other way. 6. Unfold and pull the four points of the square together, making a three-dimensional shape. SESSION 10 (available online at www.shinecurriculum.com/extras) God s radiating love instructions and template Copy this template and the instructions onto card stock for use in Explore (Create). Make one copy per child. Instructions: 1. Cut out the heart and place it randomly on the mural paper, leaving space between your heart and someone else s. 2. Hold down the heart template with one hand. With the other hand, use markers, crayons, or tempera paint to make streaks moving outward from the heart all around its edge. 3. Li the template. e heart shape should be visible, with color radiating from the shape. 4. Fill the mural with as many hearts as possible! If using paint, be careful to let the paint dry before painting another heart close by. 5. Moses: People of Israel, listen here; if you and your children obey God with all your heart, then God will have mercy on you. People: Are you sure? Moses: Remember the golden calf? God showed you mercy even then. People: Oh yeah. Never mind, keep going. Moses: Even if you are scattered to the ends of the earth, God will gather you together again. God will bring you to the land where your ancestors lived, and you will live there and prosper. People: Wait a second are you sure? Moses: Yes, I m sure. When you turn to God with all your heart and soul, you will succeed in everything you do. You will have many children, large herds of livestock, and healthy crops. People: Well, that sounds good... Moses: Of course it does! God wants good things for us, for everyone. See, today you may choose life or death. People: We have to choose? Moses: Let me finish. You can obey God s commandments by loving God and walking in God s ways. If you do this, then you will live. You will have many children and your children will have many children. SESSION 13 (available online at www.shinecurriculum.com/extras) Wilderness journey script 1. Inflate and tie off two small round balloons. 2. Write one of your strengths on each of the balloons using permanent marker. 3. Place a sheet of construction paper on the table with the long edge facing you. 4. Tape the mouths of the balloons to the short edges, with the balloons protruding outward from the paper. 5. Roll the paper into a narrow cylinder and tape the edge. Make a copy of this script for use in Explore (Move). Follow me on our journey through the wilderness. 1. Get ready, it s time to walk. (Begin walking.) 2. Where are we going? (Walk in circles.) 3. We re on holy ground! Take off your shoes. (Sit down, remove shoes, and kneel.) 4. Time to follow. (Put shoes on and begin to walk.) 5. Don t look right, look straight ahead. (Look right, then quickly turn head forward.) 6. Don t look le, look straight ahead. (Look le, then quickly turn head forward.) 7. It s getting rocky. (Step high and to the side.) 8.
