Fr. Mark Joppa PASTOR S COLUMN Father Mark Joppa Deep, Interior, and Real Change Is Hard! Change is hard. Perhaps it s more accurate to say that deep, interior, and real change is tough. This kind of change requires some level of sacrifice and suffering. People love to stay the same; maybe change the furniture around. In some sense, that is great. People are content. Yet God loves us so much that he doesn t want us to stay the same. Here is an example of hard change that requires thought and prayer: How many Catholics offer the same confession they did in second grade? Instead of deep, interior, real change they substitute with superficial change. Even large superficial change. An example of superficial change: I read that the Pillsbury mansion on Lake Minnetonka was torn down. A beautiful brick home. I would imagine that the owners think they did something momentous. This isn t the real change God is often asking of us. What makes us open to real change? One thing: FAITH! This is a long introduction to the Healing the Whole Parish event coming up soon led by Fr. Joe Bambenek. This event is the biggest thing I have planned for St. Charles in my 4+ years here. This is HUGE! Please see the insert which includes the dates/times and titles of talks. In a future bulletin we will provide details regarding times for confession, extra Mass times, and a novena leading up to Healing the Whole Parish. Change is hard. Please come to this event and open yourself to deep, interior, and real change. When Jesus calls us, it is ALWAYS a call into the deep water. The deep water that Jesus is calling us into is scary and involves trust and faith. Please keep Fr. Joe in your prayers and all of us to have the faith, courage, and strength to be open for the change Jesus is calling us to. God Is Good! Father Mark Joppa
THE TWENTY SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME DATES FOR LITURGICAL MINISTRY TRAINING SESSIONS HAVE BEEN SET St. Charles will host a series of meetings in October for Liturgical Ministry training. It is mandatory that all Liturgical Ministers attend at least one session. Father Mark Joppa will lead these sessions so that everyone will understand the duties of the particular ministries. This will be a perfect opportunity to recommit your service to St. Charles We would like to encourage all parishioners and attendees to consider this opportunity to participate in liturgical ministry. Please attend one or several of these meetings, or call Laura in the Parish Office for more information. Get Your Free Tickets After Mass When is the last time you had a chance to enjoy a picnic celebrating our parish s 75th anniversary? The correct answer, of course, is never. But on Saturday, September 22nd, following the 4:30 pm Mass, we ll all have a chance to join in this once every 75 years or so event. In conjunction with our Healing the Whole Parish retreat weekend, the picnic will also honor this 75year milestone in the history of our parish. Volunteers will be handing out tickets after all Masses in September. The tickets are free. We just need to get an estimate of attendees to order the food. Everyone is welcomed. A signup for volunteers will be in the back of the church starting this weekend. This is a great opportunity for parish fellowship. Thank you, The 75th Anniversary Committee Mark Your Calendars For The Healing the Whole Parish Retreat Join us Friday, September 21st, Saturday the 22nd, and Sunday September 23rd as Fr. Joe Bambenek presents a Healing the Whole Parish Retreat. The retreat will include Mass each day, confession, adoration, and 5 talks: 1) Why are we here? What is God s plan for our lives and for a faith community? What does it mean to be a Body of Christ? 2) Identifying our Personal Wounds and those of our parish 3) Our bindings/tourniquets: the knots we allow to be tied 4) Turning over our bindings to Mary, and opening our wounds to Jesus 5) Hope for the future: Developing a new narrative in Jesus Please join us in prayer over the next month that this will be a fruitful retreat for the parish and for you on a personal level. This will be held in conjunction with our 75th parish anniversary celebration. ADORATION TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 4th Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament is held on the first Tuesday of each month, so please mark your calendars for this Tuesday, September 4th.
