They will be displaying hand-carved olive wood religious art made by Catholics in the Holy Land. Your purchase of these beautiful items will help support Catholic families in Bethlehem and Jerusalem, and help them to continue to earn a living in the land of Christ s birth. You are also welcome to visit their website at www.blestart.org to follow up on what you may see today. So I encourage you to stop by and visit, especially in light of the many sacraments we will be celebrating this year with all our children. October is also Pro-Life month. We are reminded of the dignity of the human person from the moment of our creation until our natural death. This dignity then begins at the moment of conception. Regardless of the circumstances surrounding our creation, we have a right to a natural full existence from the moment we come to be. Anything that would block, blunt or destroy this raises grave problems. We thus are responsible for the care of each other throughout this life, no one is in this alone, and we are to be in solidarity with each other from the poorest to the richest among us. This is a great individual and social challenge and calling. Lastly, at the end of life, we have the right to a natural death, neither hurried nor pressured along our path through the use of medicine or peer pressure from others. It is in the time of suffering that we most need others to be with us and not to push us away or push us out. These rights are not granted to us by the state, rather they rise up from within us based on the very fact of our being human. Thus they can neither be granted nor taken away, they just are.
